Hi, I was lucky enough to take a year off work, buy a camper and me, the wife and my son’s dog went hunting and fishing the South Island for twelve months. We only stopped at three camping grounds to do a bit of washing and repairs. We mostly asked permission from farmers to park on their property when the river run through their land, great friendly people! We fished every foreshore, lake and river that we could reach safely. Lived off the land and sea and had great fishing and food. My wife threatened to write a book about our travels, but luckily we were too busy living the life. The hardest thing is always the first step, live and learn and ask a lot of questions. Cheers mate. Harera
One of the best videos I’ve seen in a while. Wow. Thanks for taking me along with you to this beautiful place, and walking us through the trials and tribulations of catching those fish.
Great video Sam. Im going to New Zealand for my third time in 10 days, and this video has got me super pumped and has reminded me just how great this fishing there is. Keep up the good content.
Hi, I have guided many clients back in the 1980's some through the South Island but mainly the Central North Island and I have a medal at World Champs back then. For many years I worked otherwise in business and have now returned to guide the fabulous North Island New Zealand and my book once again this summer (your Winter) is OPEN for you.
Awesome camera work as usual, I always dig the closeups…of course great scenery and jumpin trout action…thanks for the cool New Zealand footage from your trip! 🤙🏼
You are truly blessed to be able to do a trip like that. Wish I had that kind of time off but if I ever do, at least I know it's possible to DIY it in New Zealand. That rainforest spot is incredible. Fish that big and no one else around. That would never happen in the US with spots that have trout that big.
Snap. Just started watching your channel a few weeks back and thought, I would love a vid of New Zealand. Appreciate not leaving out the warts. It’s thorns and roses fishing down here. 58:00 is exactly my point
Great video, I can see you must have spent a LONG time with the editing software! Your perseverance @1h14m was admirable, to just catch one fish on a tough water like that is a real achievement. Looking forward to part 2…
Nice video! There are not enough hours in our life time to cover all of our creeks, rivers and lakes and for every large trout you catch, there is a bigger one you didn't see. As a South Island fisherman you have many more area's to explore.
Couldn’t be more jealous of such a trip of a lifetime, but appreciate you letting us share it through you, Sam! Outstanding videography! Maybe retirement and the time off to do so myself will come one day…
A very polished production. You have really nailed the art of video storytelling and kept me watching from start to finish. I often fish the first North Island river in your video. Subbed and liked. Keep em coming.
Wow, that was amazing! Thank you for sharing. I have fished extensively on your first river, but little in the South Island. Fortunately I live in New Zealand so have the options to experience what you have. Thanks for coming, please let your friends know what a wild fishing paradise New Zealand really is!
Wow!! Beautifully done! Impressive!👍👍 might be too old for anything that intense but damn you sure made that bucket list trip seem a little more attainable! Thanks
Fished most of the places you fished in this movie and the tribute to buller with the Tea coloured water has some of the pickiest trout in the world😂💪✊
Some great fishing & an epic trip thanks for taking the time to show us your efforts. I was so proud of you for having a landing net, however if I may point out that handling the fish as much as you did creates issues with their survival once you finally released them. They may swim away after the hero photos are taken, although picking them up out of the water with dry hands & having them struggle in rocky shallow water as well as holding them up on their own weight is very damaging & it limits their survival. You put a lot of work & effort into making the account of your travels a little more care with the fish would be a fantastic add on to the experience.
Hey thanks for watching! I appreciate your passion for the health of these fish, the "hero shots" were very brief, I made sure to get every fish back quickly. Hands were wet, fish swam back strong, I've looked into this subject a lot and feel good about everything I did.
The river you are fishing at the 15-minute mark can hold large numbers of awesome fish. I fished that water last summer with great success. There is also a great camp site by the river upstream.
Used to tickle big browns and rainbows out of the drains in Rotorua as a kid ❤🇳🇿🌿🏖👍salute for the hiking of the Te araroa trail bro probably seen more of our country than most of us, dont you be a stranger now😂🌈🏕🏖🌱👓🍻, chur churrrr🏖
@@FLYALLSZNCommented before I saw that you changed tactics. I had to relearn everything I knew about fly fishing when I went trekking through South Island. 18' of leader to 7x to catch 5# wild browns? Sounds crazy, no? How did you make the switch?
NZ fishing is more like hunting, such a different experience. This trip made me much better at spotting fish, but otherwise I still enjoy catching small native fish just as much as I always have!
God damn man, those fish are actually stupid. Seeign this experience it feels like fishing New Zeland would ruin my expectations for almost anywhere else
NZ is on everyone’s bucket list for fly fishing
Sick take on the weightless! What a leap!

That sounds awesome!

Great video Sam. Im going to New Zealand for my third time in 10 days, and this video has got me super pumped and has reminded me just how great this fishing there is. Keep up the good content.
Heck yeah I'm jealous, I'm itching to go back, good luck!
What area you coming to fish?
Absolutely epic
Dude congrats to you, I dream of a day when this trip happens for me!
If you can do it you should!
Awesomeness from someone who "gets it", come back anytime🌿
I'll be back as soon as I can!
With super spooky fish, I'm always WISHING for cloudy, nasty days. Bonus points for a light rain.
Sometimes for sure! It's the spotting that gets kinda tricky on those days.

This is high on the bucket list! Nice work!
This was just a great video - been there myself thinking of taking up golf at times but when you get it right, boy it's worth it

Couldn't agree more!
Video is insane! Keep up the good work...

Love this phrase

That's awesome, that river has a special place in my heart since I caught my first NZ fish there! I appreciate that, thank you

Adventure diary, film, movie? Either way this is a damn good production, wow 🔥💪
Whatever you want to call it thanks for watching!
Sam, this was stunning. Can't wait for more!
Thank you!
Wow!! Beautifully done! Impressive!👍👍 might be too old for anything that intense but damn you sure made that bucket list trip seem a little more attainable! Thanks
There’s a lot of non-intense NZ options!
Im enjoying the video dude! Im a kiwi , and I love a good flyfishing mission!
Great job. Thanks
Very good video thank you!
Fished most of the places you fished in this movie and the tribute to buller with the Tea coloured water has some of the pickiest trout in the world😂💪✊
Yeah that river was so tricky!
@ but there lives trophies there😇👍 i lost a 12-13 pounder there and got some nice 7 pounders in there 👍
awesome
Nice video mate, glad you had a great trip.

fish numbers are very low - never heard a greater cap. - great video though ;)
Compared to the states fish numbers are super low. Thanks for watching!

I believe it, I only fished a small section and the water was amazing
Great video! Longing back there. Looking forward to Jan/Feb 2026 🙂 Greetings from Norway.
Thank you good luck!

Te Araroa was so amazing I might have to do it again someday
Well done ✔
Well done. I think a month would be the minimum amount of time to fish NZ.
It’s amazing that you went all the way to NZ and never learned the South Island tactics for spooky fish.
I'd say I figured it out quick enough
@@FLYALLSZNCommented before I saw that you changed tactics. I had to relearn everything I knew about fly fishing when I went trekking through South Island. 18' of leader to 7x to catch 5# wild browns? Sounds crazy, no? How did you make the switch?
Your next destination should be the south of chile ( Patagonia) it would be great
That is high on the list!
Great vid when part two?
Very soon!
Are you still in nz? Rotorua has got some good trout fishing spots as well as other tourist hot spots
I left a long time ago unfortunately... but Rotorua was on the list of places I didn't get to fish, maybe next time...
What kind of camera are you using? Great video, makes me want to book a trip and get on some big trout.
I use a Sony A7III. Thanks you should!
home !!!
awesome video! How did this experience change how you fished other trout streams?
NZ fishing is more like hunting, such a different experience. This trip made me much better at spotting fish, but otherwise I still enjoy catching small native fish just as much as I always have!
Fish can fly can pig next?
God damn man, those fish are actually stupid. Seeign this experience it feels like fishing New Zeland would ruin my expectations for almost anywhere else
It definitely changes your perspective a bit but I've gotten used to catching smaller fish again haha...
Where's Mike? Are there two Fly All SZN channels?
Kilometers? How many is that into miles ??
1.6 km per 1 mile
How are you guys so good at fly fishing? Hahaha @@FLYALLSZN
Any hobbit sightings? ;)
Lol😂
I’ll have to review the footage 😂
First
Where’s Mike? This is bologna.
Sorry to disappoint!
