Hey Scruffy - great job on your videos, i am going through them now. I am getting my Hiker Trailer in June and seriously considering Starlink since my wife and I both still work and need to have good internet on our travels.Big road trip planned for next spring and watching hockey playoffs in the wild would be awesome! I may get back to you with some questions after I finish all your videos, thanks again!
Hi Anthony. Good to see you. I can't tell you how weird it feels to stream sporting events out in the middle of nowhere. It still feels incredible every time I do it. Until Starlink has more availability, you may need to travel to the Starlink service rather than going where you want and hoping Starlink will work. They are picking up speed fast, though, with their new rockets which deploy a LOT more satellites with each launch. Happy to talk to you about it when you are ready!
I have a tear drop and mounted a telescoping flag pole from harbor freight for my starlink setup. Mounted right to the side of the trailer, works fantastic.
Hi Greg. Mounting the dish to the top of my trailer is working for now, but I am getting a new trailer that will make that will not allow me to do that. I've looked at mounting to the side of my trailer as well, but haven't found a good solution. I have a 2" flagpole that will work, but maybe it is overkill because I have not found a good way to mount the pole itself to my trailer anywhere. Do you mind sharing with me what pole and how/where you mounted it to the trailer. I would love to hear from you. Thank you!
I'm thinking flag pole hitch and use rhino rack shovel holder on roof rack for pole. That way i can put higher. Got for camping and further travels. Good base camp can maybe use wifi calling for emergency
Hi John. I'm jealous! I would LOVE to use a hitch for the Starlink pole as it strikes me as far and away the most convenient way to go. And my trailer DOES have a hitch, but the pole would interfere with the rear galley and awning on my setup. Hm... you have me thinking though... I wonder if I could weld a hitch onto the chassis up near the front somewhere. Oh! That might work!! Thanks for getting my brain juices flowing!!!
It would have been nice if you would have covered how you powered it and how much power it consumed instead of how to cut a 2x4. I'm planning on using 612 ah solar generator w/500 watts inverter. I did subscribe though...
Good point. I totally should have done that in that video. So far I have only used Starlink at sites that have a power hookup. That's the best part about where I was staying near the Sand Dunes -- it's basically boondocking with a power hookup. Never seen another place like that. My current trailer has 400 W of solar on the roof connected to 200ah of lithium ion battery so running Stalrink on it full time would stretch its capabilities but I am in the process of building a new trailer on which I'm trying to get 630W or even 840W going (argh! argh!). I think that could do it. Which solar generator are you using? Thank you for the sub!
@@ScruffyGolden I bought a Beiben to charge my Milwaukee tools batteries as an entry level. My trailer has 300 watts solar with 170 ah lithium iron phosphate battery. I am looking at Bluetti and will most likely need to build a at least 700 watt of solar system to power the Starlink it sounds like, according to you. I have over an acre on the N. California coast that barely gets a cellphone signal. I'm walking a fine line, as my wife doesn't like me spending money, but can't live without internet now that her twin daughters are expecting a 4th baby across the country. My solar generator's screen has a watts used and how long I can expect the power from the battery to last. Unfortunately, this little unit can only take 100 watts max. Input...I was looking for how many watts the dish and router take, which I haven't found yet. I'm waiting for my shipped email from Starlink and could let you know, once it arrives how many watts it uses.
@@ScruffyGolden I found out that Starlink uses 100 watts so my Solar generator should work for now :) You got a great voice and I was just trying to help…
No! To place an order you have to have a physical address, but once you have the equipment you can use either a physical address OR a google plus code which is like a gps coordinate. You can also drag your position around on a map so it is very easy to get close to the Dunes (or any location) and then tighten it up once I got there and found my campsite.
Great to know & stunning choice of location
Hello galactyx1! It really is a neat place and one of my favorites in CO. Glad you found the video useful!

Great review! Just bought mine and will get it tomorrow. Will be using it on my Airstream. Thank you so so much!
You are very welcome!

So, you're going to be the giant hot spot at the Hiker meetup in August, right? Starlink is pretty damn impressive.
It really is amazing. Let's hope it works at the meetup!!

Hi Don. I appreciated the feedback. Thank you!
Did you have to use an address when you set it up out there?

@@ScruffyGolden did you have to pay for the $25monthly for portability?
