I'm a white Muslim girl coming from a Muslim majority country in Europe. I once commented somewhere on the internet that there are also white Muslims and that we get easily ignored and someone replied with "Oh, yeah, white people can convert to Islam". I didn't convert, I was born into it (Alhamdulillah) as were me parents, their parents and so on. It really annoys me as does the portrayal of Muslims in western media. Edit: I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
I am so sorry that it has happened to you sister. May be they haven't seen any white Muslim families. May the Almighty Allah bless you and may you achieve all that you are looking forward to ❤️.
Yeah, unfortunately western classifications of race and skin color is now considered as worlwide but it's def not. There are a lot of people that we can't just call brown or white or yellow in many regions. For example, I'm a Kurd from Turkey, my ancestors were living in Eastern Anatolian peninsula so we kinda look like Turks more than Syrian or Iraqi Kurds. So what am I? Racially, they would call me brown but my skin is quiet white lol. Basically, Western race standarts are not real but constructed for their superiority obsession.
We should make our own movies with representation based on what our lives are really like, I know I can't speak for everyone but I'm sure all my fellow hijabis agree. We'd never take our hijabs off, especially not for a boy.
It clearly does because princess Jasmine said ,,Allah" in the movie. But Jasmine herself was a bad representation of a muslim girl. Her entire design was clearly based on american girls but only in brown colour. She is also wearing an outfit which prostitutes wore it back then..
@@konanxhidan3202 that’s not a solid argument. Aladdin is set in the generic Middle East. I won’t say everyone but A lot of people refer to the higher power in the language of the land. Yep, religious representations (unless the religious themselves have done it) are usually anti-religious, once again, no one respects freedom of worship as a right. :)
Aladdin failed to represent brown culture, Arab culture and Muslim culture and the reason is that they tried to represent ALL of those as if they were one and then also based the characters stereotypically. Have you ever noticed Jasmine is the least modestly dresses Disney princess? She literally dresses like a belly dancer when she's supposed to be the most prestigious woman.. The daughter of the Sultan.
@Focused Studying 1001 Nights itself isn’t a one author book and the origins are pretty unknown. The song in the movie says Arabian nights then the movie proceeds to showcase a princess in belly dancing clothes, a monkey and a tiger, and various different aspects gathered from varied Middle Eastern cultures as if they’re one. This is a modern example of orientalism and failed representation. Disney gave us many white culture movies and couldn’t make one correct brown culture movie? I don’t blame them neither, the west constantly fails to understand/represent brown cultures because they often think of them as one.
Jasmine is more pretty with her hijab and abaya than her belly dress . If disney make more sequel or contain to aladdin 1992 , they should make anti islamphobic . And also please stop making bad guys speaking with Arab accent is wrong 😭

FACTS! Literally any representation of religion is showing it as suffocating and full of angry, blind followers. LOL why can't being religous just be accepted as that? You can be religious and be a functioning human in society.
because it is all part of an agenda (I'm not a conspiracy theorist) you see it everywhere in the movies, video games etc. They want people to fear and despise religion and think of it as nothing but something that restricts a human being from freedom of expression etc, forbids you from desires, lgbtq and actually many religions do not accept this, which is logical, this is also why athiesm is increasing in some countries, people aren't given proper knowledge of religion and some if not most religions infact have been changed and spread in such a way that it confuses people and leads them into hating religion altogether, this is what scholars and mullahs are doing in Muslim countries which is also why the reputation of Muslims suffers to this day, it is similar to how priests corrupted and changed the Bible, which makes some Christians leave religion.

There's a horror show called "Slasher." And believe it or not, its main character - or the final girl - is a hijabi teenager girl. Despite the unlikely circumstances, I'm glad that the show portrayed the girl in more positive ways than simply reduced her into just stereotypes. The sexualisation of Muslim women is so weird. Like, there's a weird obsession with her taking off her hijab for some guy. Why must it always be sexual? Just want to share a story. My friend has a cousin, we are all muslims. One day her cousin had some fights with her parents and o make it short, to the point she wanted to run away with her boyfriend and wanted to convert to be a christian just like her boyfriend. And off course, her parents opposed her. And what was her parents, or more like her mom's respond? "You will bring a disgrace to OUR FAMILY! Do you forget that your grandfather is a *Kiai?! Where should i put my face in front of the big family and our neighbors?!" fyi : Kiai is a title or reference for a venerated scholar, teacher of Islam. Probably an equivalent of a Pastor in christianity? What disappointed me from her parent's respond is that they were worried for themselves, not for their faith, not because her daughter had forgotten our God, our belief. They were worried it will disgrace the image of their family in front of people. This to me just makes them look like wanting their daughter to stay as muslim not because of Allah, but just to safe their image. To me this is what the oppression is. The people are that oppressing, not the God. And honestly many parents are like this. When they educate their children about "religion" they never approach it in spiritual way but rather being aggressive. My mom were like that too, when i was a little kid she forced me to wear hijab just because i was a muslim and that's the rule. And if i refused, she would get mad at me. But luckily now, thankfully we grew a bit more mature. Now when it comes to religion, she does it in really a spiritual way, really thinking about our faith and God. Not just following the society, the neighbors and so on and being aggressive about it.

I think one of the big problem about muslim representation is whenever they wanna talk about Islam, they talk about it through a christian prism. Let me explain: I noticed it in Elite especially cause it's the only show I watched that had a hijabi girl in it. They took all of the "problems" they have with christianity (women being denied autonomy, homophobia etc etc), they brownwashed and TADA! It's Isam. They didn't talk about stuff that are important to muslims; while it's true that parental even familial pressure is huge when you're muslim but family, parents especially can be such a great source of comfort and support. Also, they didn't address about the subject of immigration and how our family encourage us to adapt a perfect behavior so we don't tarnish our community image. My mom always told me "people may look down on you because you're a woman or muslim but through hard work you will force them to respect you" and I think it's unfair that I'm juged just on apperances. They didn't talk about Hijabi women being harassed for wearing a cloth because it's a sign of oppression (even when when they chose to wear it) or muslim men harrassed for wearing the bread cause they look like a terrorist. I have a friend who was denied entry to USA despite being supported by an university just because his name was Jihad even though he has no criminal record whatsoever. I can go on and on but long story short: muslim/arab characters (even though both are not mutually inclusive) don't reflect muslims/arabs issues because they weren't written by people who are part of those communities.
What is this comment even supposed to mean?? Christianity has barely influence on the society in Spain. People are much more open minded and less religious. Muslim people have a background from obviously Muslim countries and Muslim families. The people in Muslim countries are much more strict and much more religious. Therefore Islam has a huge meaning in Spain for the Muslim people. It's the same thing here in Germany, the ones with the Christian background barely talk about Christianity or care whereas Muslim people always talk about it, always brings it conversation, I have heard "allah is great" so many times lmao. Obviously they would talk much more about Islam then about Christianity. Apart from that, what happened to Nadia does happen to many girls. Being influenced by these 2 cultures and growing up in both is hard for some people. Yes but everyone, some never take the Hijab off but still many people get more westernized when they grow up in a western society. It just happens. Apart from that there are Ex-muslime who get silenced every time they speak up. There are girls who take off the Hijab and even become Ex-muslims. And still there is barely any representation.
@@evangeliar.7600 Okay let me clear something up for you before I point out what's wrong with your comment; from what I can gather, you're not a hijabi girl, let alone a muslim woman. The point of view you have on Hijabi Women and Islam is from an outsider, making your opinion biased. Also, spain is not hugely influenced by christianity, seriously? Do you even have any background or historical knowledge about this country? Islam is such a huge part of muslim lives, they talk about it all of the time lmao whereas christians barely mention their religion lmao. Yes? Everybody knows about christianty because they grow up in a christian background even as non-christian; you may not know much about christianity but you don't need to explain who is Jesus, what is christmas etc etc. On the other hand, non-muslim barely have any knowledge about Islam and share many false conception aswell, it's normal for muslim to talk about their religion to clear up some misunderstandings. We are just trying to explain that our religion is not a religion of terrorism!! Moreover, if you're like very much into books, you will tend to bring up subject about books all of the time, it's totally normal and fine. Same thing for Islam and muslims as long as they don't tell you stuff like "your beliefs are wrong" or "if you don't become muslim, you're going to hell". Yes, ex-muslims exist, ex-hijabi women exist. But they do not represent Islam. The problem with those two is that they have been forced into making choices that are not their, unfortunately happens sometimes. But to represent all Hijabi and muslims are poor victims of Islam whose veil is a sign of oppression is insulting and far the truth. I know many hijabi women who are harassed by others because they cover their head. My mum was, my best friend was and many others. Wearing a hijab or not is not the problem, again, the problem is forcing someone to wear it or to not wear it. I do not think that it is the stigmatizing with Islam and marriage that is portrayed in Aladdin, but that the fact she is a PRINCESS! This goes for every Monarchy in the world: look at the example of the Crown Prince of Norway, and his chosen none-conventional bride. And there could be put forward so many examples of same character. Not only that, but every fairytale, almost, have the same concept: wanna marry because of love, and not due responsibilities.

I'm a Christian girl (not that religious), and in my former school, there is a rule that states the only religion allowed is Christianity. And the hijabis in my school were forced to remove their hijabs and stay like that for an entire term, mark you it's a boarding school(a term is 3 months ling). I remember some of them crying and saying it was disrespectful, but the school did not listen. Even during Ramadan, they were not allowed to do the Islamic way. The school also had a rule that church was compulsory, every Friday evening, Sunday morning and Sunday evening. It was a burden, even to me. If you don't attend you were eligible for suspension. The Muslims were not allowed to go and pray on any day. I really felt bad for the hijabis and the Muslims, and some of us tried to change the rule, but it was all in vain cause we ended up getting suspended. The school does all these for "uniformity" since we wear uniforms.

This is why the only Muslim representations I would ever watch is Kurulus Osman or Resurrection Ertugrul because not only does it portray Islam in a good way but also has some good teaching about Islam. Some people have even converted to Islam after watching it.
These portrayals don't deserve to be called 'Representation'. They're not even misrepresentation, because they're _not trying to represent_ Muslims at all. They're trying to tear them down.
For those debating Aladdin, the point is that Aladdin perpetuates Orientalist tropes - that the Middle East is barbaric, far-away and uncivilised. This is not exclusive to Islam but Asia as a whole. Many associate Islam with these tropes and generalise all Muslims as Arab, or from the Middle East. This is an important trope, because it is still perpetuated today (in shows such as Homeland where a white saviour journeys through the barbaric Middle East, Aladdin, The Dictator etc.) The media uses Orientalism to depict the Middle East as a deserted, uncivilised land, filled with women who are oppressed and in need of being liberated, and men who are inhumane, barbaric and devoid of human emotion. This is often perpetuated onto Islam as well. This trope can be extended to the Balkans and other parts of Asia. For those interested in learning more, it is a term coined by Edward Said (a Palestinian) in his book called Orientalism, 1978.
I really like this musical called everybody's talking about Jamie (a teen who is in drag) and his best friend is a Muslim girl who wears a hijab, and for once it's a normal representation of a Muslim person? Like there's no whole I am so oppressed, woe is me rhetoric. She's just a normal girl who happens to be a Muslim hijabi? That's what I would love more of in mainstream media. I think people need to realise that Muslims choose to don a hijab? So people telling them wearing one is wrong or trying to tell them they're oppressed is utter BS. Those people who don't understand Islam and make assumptions are the actual oppressors, not a piece of fabric covering one's hair.
As a Christian, Ive observed that people often think Muslim girls are coerced into wearing a hijab - but from what Muslims tell me its more like a public vow of your faith, that you CHOOSE to take. Kind of like how Christians choose to get baptized, to publicly state their decision and desire to follow Christ
@Someone 333 Is it alright if I ask, but why is it that they don't allow them? Is there a rule to say they can't (I genuinely don't know, so I hope you can enlighten me) cuz I would've thought that the girls would know when they feel ready to make that commitment?
@@MMAACC2014 as far as the extent of my knowledge goes, there is no reason to keep girls from wearing hijab at a young age, maybe it's their own preference since this is when the parents themselves wore it, but there is a specific time where girls will eventually have to wear hijab (that time is around their early teen years for most, but some have it different) but to sum things up, there is no specific rule that girls can't wear hijab at a young age, but it becomes a must at some point in their lives
As an atheist who _is_ forced into Islam, I still 100% agree with everything here. I fucking hate the taking hijab trope so much, it's so disrespectful to the hijabis who definitely love wearing them and being Muslim. It reminds me of the "Taking glasses off to become pretty" trope but with another layer of distastefulness.
I agree with these tropes will all except the last one. While Islam gives you the space to find your own relationship with religion, that is often not the case. Policing by parents, shoving the religion down a child's throat and shaming/chastising them for not following deen according to how their families expect them to isn't so uncommon. Some people truly are made to feel as if it isn't a choice (my sister being one of them).
I mean it’s okay for parents to teach their children about Islam, teach them how to pray, how to read the Quran, and encourage them to wear the hijab, but it should not be forced. Also, Muslim parents should have full right to be upset when their children go clubbing, carelessly consuming intoxicants(ie. alcohol and pot), if they commit zina, or if they purposely choose to sexualize themselves for the attention of others. And let’s not forget the Quran and Sunnah command us to make intoxicants, zina, homosexuality, marital infidelity, and many more things legally punishable so we must respect the laws of our Creator and teachings of Prophet Muhammad(SAW) or else we’ll be munafiqs.
its normal for parents teaching their kids religion, its something jews do, something christians do, yes most muslim parents shove deen up their kids throat, but does islam allow it? no. i've been taught arabic and quran at the age of 5 and im so grateful for my parents teaching me good and bad, and id like to say forcing is haram as verse 256 of surah al-baqarah says: "there is no compulsion in religion"
@@yes-vn6uo That’s so true bro, that verse is from when the new Meccan Muslims started trying to convert their Jewish or Christian kids to Islam but obviously that’s wrong.
Im Arab and I don’t thing Aladdin Necessary represented islam the movie is based of a fictional tale in middle east so it’s normal for them to say like”allah” because it literally translate into “god” that’s because it’s their language, they are lot of non- muslim arabs who say the word “ ya Allah” as in oh my god soooo Don’t overthink it , it’s just a movie but i agree with everything else you said ! Finally someone here spitting out facts😤(sorry for my poor English)
Yeah I don’t think it represents Islam bc religion was never mentioned in the movie, but I do agree that they put a lot of stereotypes from different middle eastern countries in there.
No it's not just a movie. People there be really basing their whole view about us on the movies they watch. They become major ignorants and don't even make the effort to learn. So no it is a big deal. And they wanted it to represent islam too. In the market when a man thought that jasmine stole something he wanted to cut her hand off as if we muslims do that all the time in the streets or as if islam tells us to do that and that there's no laws or authorities. The fact that i as an arab kid then and untill i grew up didn't even know that Aladdin was supposed to represent me and my region is fucked up. It's that far off from reality.
Islamophobia is never to set foot in my house! Literally, Islam like the word (salam) means peace in the Arabic language, therefore Islam is peaceful and has always been. If anyone dares to hurt a brother or sister I will pray for them, and educate them for what terrible actions they have caused to be religiously intolerant towards others.
lol thats wrong of her family, since its a rule in islam reaching out to your family and visiting the sick, but what do you mean with "fear of being free"

ok I think the only, and I literally mean the Only proper Muslim representation in a show I have seen is Norway's take on Skam season 4 with a girl named Sana, my favourite, yall should totally watch it. :)
These tropes are so accurate. The last time, I saw real Muslim representation was when I was a little kid around 2008 in the movie "The Lion of the Desert " and the movie series, "The Message". It has some inaccuracies but still mostly correct...the quality is a bit bad though because we watched it from CDs. It's a great movie series though to enlighten kids about the story of the Prophet(P.B.U.H) and the 3 battles. (The Prophet(P.B.U.H) is not shown thankfully, you just see the white camel without a rider).

I personally have no problem with Islam intact I am learning about it but when I think about muslims I think it's there fault for making a bad image of Islam as most of them can't tolarte different beliefs then there own and I will be honest I have seen alot of Muslims people insulting and putting down people who are either homosexual or have different religion or even are atheist I mean that these things are haram in Qur'an but we should also remember in Qur'an it is said to never backbite someone and Islam litterl purpose is to teach moral values however most Muslims have forget it's real purpose and continue to be toxic now I am not judging a whole community by actions of somes but it's my personal experience of meeting some of them now I have recently converted to Islam and the only reason I did converted to it is to learn about it however I see mostly this kind of behaviour and it really breaks my faith in Islam now imagine a person who hate Islam and you insult him and force him to change his religion or whatever the only thing you will do is make more hate inside him/her as a Muslim we need to realize to tolarte others beliefs and differences we want respect in the society anways I apologize if I offended anyone by my words my intention was not negative or anything.
When you say tolerate these sins what do you mean by that? Like saying its ok? Like what christians have done to themselfs? You need to understand the difference Between living with each other and changing the laws of God you throwing your own believes under the bus for someone else believe

May I ask if you know Samirah Al-Abbas? If you do, do u think she's a good representation? Samirah is a teenager (16 yo) Muslim character in one of Rick Riordan's books (Magnus Chase and the gods of Asgard, it's about Norse mythology). Throughout the whole series, she always emphasizes how important her religion is for her, (it's even said that she thinks of the Norse gods more like powerful beings rather than actual gods); as far as I can remember, she only takes her hijab off when she's around people she considers her family; and the last book takes place in the Ramadan, so it's described how, while she's on a mission to save the worlds, she takes her time to do her prayers and mentions how important and meaningful is for her to do so. She's is definitely a great and very interesting character but, since I'm not Muslim, I always wondered if she was portrayed correctly :) (Sorry if I made any grammatical error)
Ig yeah, I mean when I read the book she just seemed like a forgettable character to me and everything involving her was just so forced into the story. Everything that was brought up about her always seemed to had to do with Islam. Like, when you’re writing about a universe where other factors like elves and dwarves are involved, I highly doubt another religion will be important to discuss.
uh seriously? she could've used smth else. Obviously, they just wanted a scene where a muslim woman takes her hijab off. Stop being naive people. Like it's obvious cuz they make these scenes a lot
I agree with most points here, well illustrated, except the "children get to choose" part. As a Muslim guy we did not get to choose and I just know this is the same amongst a wide number of Muslims. Most of the time, it's because of coercion. However, there are some cases where children are not be explicitly "forced". Children are very impressionable. When their parents are constantly saying "Islam, Islam, Islam" then they don't know anything else and just become Muslim because their parents are.
how is it wrong teaching your kids religion? "as a muslim guy" while your name is john smith, all religions teach their children their religion, its called logic, its the kids choice wanting to convert or not
@@yes-vn6uo My real name isn't John Smith, that's just the fake name I use online. It's a common generic name. Also there's no problem with "teaching" - the problem arises because they do not get a "choice". Either become Muslim or we'll make you or you can't be a part of the family. Nothing I've said so far makes me an "obvious non-Muslim" or makes me even seem non-Muslim except my online name. Everything I said in my comment is my experience being in a Muslim family.
Tbh, I didn't know the meaning behind the line in Aladdin "It's barbaric but hey it's home." I always thought it meant the temperature and the weather, lol. But now I know 😒
03:31 I know nothing about this storyline. But based on what you described, this character is actually pretty common in real world. There are many girls who don't wanna wear hijab, wear it because their parents want/expect them to. It's not just a misrepresentation. You can say it's a traditional thing, not religious related, I don't know. Either way, It does exist. As for the other tropes mentioned, I think they are accurate.
Can I ask if anyone has watched the fourth season of Skam or parody seasons if they have done a good job, I'm not Muslim but I'd love to know if the representation of Islam in this series is actually good or just seems good cause I'm uneducated
If you’re talking about Imane from France SKAM season 4, then yes. Of course you can’t ever come up with a character that perfectly represents everything about a certain group of people, you can be avoid being islamophobic and saturating the show with other harmful, problematic stereotypes and that’s exactly what SKAM France did. Watching Imane felt so great to see muslim character being strong and themselves and never taking off their hijab for some man. Imane loved her religion and she also loved her friends ans Sofianne. Honestly, there’s hardly any decent muslim representation so I can’t say that SKAM France season 4 is the best muslim representation because it’s the only non terrible muslim representation I’ve watched. Hopefully things change though. My days, I loveeeeed Imane!
0:00-0:07 YESSSSSSSS me and my sisters always say things like "Oh my god that girl is wearing a hijab!" every time we're watching a movie/show that, you know, has a girl in it that wears a hijab. Even if it's a random side character that is just walking by or something. I really hope that we get a good movie some day that includes Islam from someone that is actually Muslim.
the 4th one i really dont get, like.... i started wearing hijab when i was 4 and wasnt forced into it. even then my mum never forced me into anything. it is even said in the Quran that there is nothing obligatory in islam and anything should be done by will
That's so interesting. As a non-muslim, I've never thought of Aladdin as a movie about Muslims, maybe because the characters behave and dress so differently from how I expected Muslims to behave (sorry if that's a stereotype). For example, Jasmine wearing what's basically a bikini top with pants, and no hijabs or niqabs in the movie at all (that I remember of, that is). I always thought of it as being set in pre-Islamic Arabia, or maybe Persia before the Islamic conquest.
It indeed is meant to portray Arabs in a rather stereotypical way, mind you it's a movie from the 90's, which makes it even more apparent that stereotypes against Arabs and Muslims were infact a thing in the 90's in the U.S and Europe.
"when are we going to have a religious narrative that isn't about suffering and restraint but just the love of God?" Oh my. Needed to hear someone else say that today, Praise God! Yes I totally agree! Subscribing :)
Wow the editing is great the video the points wow mashallah👏 I always used to say I would never visit my moms home country because movies portrayed it to be war like and I would be scared of the country as a kid. Now it’s like wow they need to represent us better
I agree with everything except that "Muslims aren't forced into islam"... So are you telling me that if I go to my MUSLIM family and day that I'm not a Muslim anymore they will just accept that fact and move on. wth No. The majority of Muslim families are very strict especially those of first generation immigrants. This strictness can lead to the feeling of not beeing able to make a choice and feeling trapped. So yeah many Muslim Kids like me have strict conservative muslim parents, who don't give their kids the freedom they sometime lack.
Racist Hollywood has a history of villainizing Indigenous people as “savages” since the earliest films; I’ve noticed this Islamaphobic trend too and the only path to change is supporting independent Indigenous/BIPOC film makers. 💜

Facts
muslim isn’t a culture

We muslim women don't do things for men, we do it for Allah who made us so the ones who are trying to take our hijab off thinking "wE aRe oPprEssEd" are actually taking away our right to follow a religion we wants which goes against democracy.
You have all rights to believe in that and as a an atheist who beleives in RIGHTS AND LIBERTY i have nothing against that but
the "concept" of allah and that you do that to please allah WAS made by MEN or should i say dictated by a particular man claimed to be holly .. if your god is alknowing , almighty , alwilling and forgiving then he dosen't need small of big sacrifces from you or literally 7 billion or even 70 billion or even 700 billion or x amount of people , it's just MAN made religion uses the GOD or "FOR THE GOD" to project down ideals among communities without having to give all out logical explaintion behind it
You might believe something speical is waiting after death casue you decided to wear cloth on x amount of times for someone almighty who you have no contact with
but it dosen't matter in the end cause like animals , we humans will decompose back into earth making way for new living ( manure for plants)

Stop dictating what we should do because u look like a hypocrite.
There's a horror show called "Slasher." And believe it or not, its main character - or the final girl - is a hijabi teenager girl. Despite the unlikely circumstances, I'm glad that the show portrayed the girl in more positive ways than simply reduced her into just stereotypes. Or at least different than how the western media usually depicted a hijabi woman.
The sexualisation of Muslim women is so weird. Like, there's a weird obsession with her taking off her hijab for some guy. Why must it always be sexual? Can't she just be some Muslim student who is smart and successful but also wears a hijab and doesn't commit anything sinful for the sake of the plot and is happy being a Muslim? That'd surely be much more empowering more.
I get so angry when I see these tropes.

I use to love watching Aladdin, until I noticed that Jasmine was being forced into marriage by her father. This is their typical Arab or Muslim stereotype.
not only that even our favourite video games from early 2000's dehumanize Muslims, the call of duty series are notorious for this, metal slug, resident evil 4, two of the games have Japanese creators too, although I did see some positive representaion lately, they brought an Arab character named Shaheen in Tekken 7, even street fighter 5 has an Arab fighter, both are portrayed as good guys. but that is not enough.
Where should i put my face in front of the big family and our neighbors?!"
fyi : Kiai is a title or reference for a venerated scholar, teacher of Islam.

It's sad muslim in western is being rejected. In my country, indonesia, there a lot of muslim who can live normal.
Plus, how would you like it if they represented all german as nazis who than realize that Nazism is bad and they grow out of it? Doesn't feel remotely close to truth nor gratifying, does it?
I do not think that it is the stigmatizing with Islam and marriage that is portrayed in Aladdin, but that the fact she is a PRINCESS! This goes for every Monarchy in the world: look at the example of the Crown Prince of Norway, and his chosen none-conventional bride. And there could be put forward so many examples of same character. Not only that, but every fairytale, almost, have the same concept: wanna marry because of love, and not due responsibilities.

And pretending that it does not exist just to give a better reputation to our countries who do have some issues regarding women is too unfair to girls who faced that kind of stuff.

Wait why is traditionals marriges are wrong????

And they say Islam is extreme, knowing that someone isn't Christian you are for forcing them to follow it. 🤦
Where is this school?
it’s sad bc these shows that we grow up on can have influence on us, when in fact many of us choose islam and love Allah. Happy Teen Muslim girls and boys exist

@@evangeliar.7600 no I’m saying that it’s just unfair how they choose to represent Muslims in America. It’s just showing just one narrative. It’s true that there are Muslims being forced to be religious but again that’s just one narrative, it sheds a bad message about Islam.

Those people who don't understand Islam and make assumptions are the actual oppressors, not a piece of fabric covering one's hair.
ikr its very rare. its one of the normal respresentation
@@MMAACC2014 as far as the extent of my knowledge goes, there is no reason to keep girls from wearing hijab at a young age, maybe it's their own preference since this is when the parents themselves wore it, but there is a specific time where girls will eventually have to wear hijab (that time is around their early teen years for most, but some have it different)
but to sum things up, there is no specific rule that girls can't wear hijab at a young age, but it becomes a must at some point in their lives
I am little bit confused, as there are nearly 2B muslims, talented, skilled but why can't they make a nice movie for muslims?
As an atheist who _is_ forced into Islam, I still 100% agree with everything here. I fucking hate the taking hijab trope so much, it's so disrespectful to the hijabis who definitely love wearing them and being Muslim. It reminds me of the "Taking glasses off to become pretty" trope but with another layer of distastefulness.
if they're going to represent use like that, we don't want representation.
1:55 White American Sufi Muslim here and proud of it (the Sufi part, not the white part, I am not a Nazi 😂😂😂).

She's is definitely a great and very interesting character but, since I'm not Muslim, I always wondered if she was portrayed correctly :)

to be honest the grey's anatomy girl taking off her hijab, trying to save a person's life is okay I guess.
are u muslim?
@@moony6169 yeah
uh seriously? she could've used smth else. Obviously, they just wanted a scene where a muslim woman takes her hijab off. Stop being naive people. Like it's obvious cuz they make these scenes a lot
*all muslims are arabic*
malaysians and indonesians: are we a joke to you?
Whites and Africans are muslims
@@Kaosxca I know, but for malaysians and indonesians we arent arab muslims we are indonesian muslims and malaysian muslims

I’m loving the knowledge the Channel is dropping 🔥🔥🔥
I usually don't comment, but there's this book called Love from A to Z by S. K. Ali and it's ACCURATE and AMAZING MASHALLAH. Def read it, 10/10
I agree with most points here, well illustrated, except the "children get to choose" part.
"as a muslim guy" while your name is john smith, all religions teach their children their religion, its called logic, its the kids choice wanting to convert or not
and no you dont just become muslim because your parents are, you are obv a non-muslim and it shows
@@yes-vn6uo My real name isn't John Smith, that's just the fake name I use online.
Thank you for bringing up this problem with Hollywood representation of Muslims in a wrong way. I also felt same.
in grey's anatomy it was to save a patient tho. but
idk it still was weird
Tbh, I didn't know the meaning behind the line in Aladdin "It's barbaric but hey it's home." I always thought it meant the temperature and the weather, lol. But now I know 😒
i hope you guys add subtitles soon 😁
right
03:31 I know nothing about this storyline.
You Droped this 🧢

My days, I loveeeeed Imane!
so im not even muslim and i think these tropes are really messed up
let them enjoy this world coz that's all they have 😶😔😟
I want movie where the Hijab Girl is the Savior of a White Man
SAY IT LOUDER 🥺
0:00-0:07 YESSSSSSSS me and my sisters always say things like "Oh my god that girl is wearing a hijab!" every time we're watching a movie/show that, you know, has a girl in it that wears a hijab. Even if it's a random side character that is just walking by or something.
I really hope that we get a good movie some day that includes Islam from someone that is actually Muslim.
the 4th one i really dont get, like.... i started wearing hijab when i was 4 and wasnt forced into it. even then my mum never forced me into anything. it is even said in the Quran that there is nothing obligatory in islam and anything should be done by will
may i know what surah and ayat is that? about this "there is nothing obligatory in islam and anything should be done by will"
@@timaalo154 i get my info from this muslim UA-camr so i will ask her as she has the quran memorized
@@timaalo154 verse 256, surah al-baqarah

2:19 the dorthraki aren’t arab though, they were based on nomadic riders that inhabited Northern Asia
Facts/preach/great video! 🔥🔥
Better then burn hell
So yea thats a good thing
This is so accurate! thank you
Racist Hollywood has a history of villainizing Indigenous people as “savages” since the earliest films; I’ve noticed this Islamaphobic trend too and the only path to change is supporting independent Indigenous/BIPOC film makers. 💜
Fr the hijab thing is sooo annoying ㅠ ㅠ
