I bought the Pelican Mustang. I really love it. It is light to carry 35#(although I did get some wheels at Walmart for a good price) I stuffed it with pool noodles for an inexpensive floatation in case of a spill ($20), I also bought the Bending Branch Whisper paddle he suggested because it was only $69.00. It is light enough, for now, I may upgrade to a lightweight paddle in the future. In one of his videos, he suggested the Pelican Mustang $349. My friend bought the Pelican Trailblazer. $249..which is a GREAT entry-level, inexpensive kayak, great one to start with. Another friend bought the Pelican Blitz sit-on top kayak $369, which is very nice, easy to get on and off. We all bought the Pelican brand because they are lighter in weight than other inexpensive kayaks and we are all over 60. We also bought wheels to transport our kayaks to the water from the parking lot. We usually use the boat ramps for entering and exiting the water.

My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

I watched your videos before I got into Kayaking, now I've been out on 49 Kayaking Adventures with a Kayak Group that just past 18,000 members here in Florida! My first boats were both Lifetimes that were durable for the heavy duty portages I like to tackle, but then I bought a used Dagger Charleston 140 and immediately both those Lifetimes seem like toys. Only had that a month, and already it's left my original boats hanging on the shed wall. Now I just need to find a 10 to 12 foot boat that's fast and efficient like the Charleston ;-)
Thank you for introducing me to this sport, it's literally changed my lifestyle. I've been from Myakka in South Florida and will be going up to Georgia in 2 months with the group in the first out of State Adventure! Will always remember the memories the original 'Cheap' Boats made and plan to continue to use them on the difficult portage heavy rivers. But Now I'm researching 10 to 12 foot Kayak's that are efficient and fast like the Charletson 140 ;-)

Yup, I also joined a couple organized groups. One had a floating clubhouse.
Members had to boat out to it and deal with their arrival and departure issues.
I took a waterproof headlamp for ,meetings that happened at night. It was
sold to somebody who had it towed north past Canada.

I just bought one of the Pelican Pioneer 100XRs this year and I love it. It paddles very well, super stable, its very light (maybe 50 pounds with the seat at most), easy to car top and the seat is very comfortable. Ive been out fishing for hours without issue. Its also built well and seems to be pretty tuff. I added some side handles and an anchor trolly and it works great for a grab and go fishing kayak. As far as the back hatch Ive fished in the rain and the stuff in the hatch was still dry.

I bought my first kayak at the beginning of pandemic. I’m 68 and wanted a kayak for fishing small lakes & ponds that I could load & unload and transport to water myself. Seat comfort and cost to quality led me to go with the Teton. After due diligence and much research, I bought a Lifetime Teton Angler 10’ on sale for $330. I felt like it met my main criteria. I am happy with it and have no buyer’s remorse. It seems a notch above an entry-level price point model. Simple design with quality construction. After paddle, flotation vest, dry bag, waterproof gear box, and leashes, I was all-in for under five bills. My yak fishing partner has a Sun Dolphin he got on sale for $249. He and I both can tell a difference in overall build quality. For less than $100 more, the value is apparent. The Lifetime kayaks are a great place to start. One can always upgrade later. The Teton fits my needs and budget. The seat is big selling point.

That's my only Sit on Top Kayak, the 10 foot model Teton Angler from Dicks. I have jumped a 3 food dam in it and portaged over some rough knotty limbs in my South Florida Adventures with it. The boats are a tank and quite stable, only wish they were faster that's my only complaint with them.

These 2 videos were helpful in my search for the best sit-on-top recreational kayaks for us. I got the Pelican Bandit NXT 100 for my wife, but for me (at 215 lbs) it seemed a little "tippy". After watching your Part 2 video again, I decided on the Lifetime Teton 100 Angler because you appeared to be kayaking comfortably in it. When I ride in the Bandit, with its 300 lb carrying capacity ... the water comes up to the top of the scupper holes. But even though the Teton only lists a 275 carrying capacity ... the water only comes up halfway in the scupper holes.

My first kayak was a pelican, and it had those dreaded molded foot pads. Very hard on my ankles. I upgraded my foot pads, but ultimately upgraded to a Jackson Kraken, and a Dagger Axis 12, but again, my first purchase, my thought was getting in cheap. I will say, get out there and paddle. Stay with what you can afford, spend money on PFD and Paddle as well as other support gear before you spend lots on a boat. Great video Dan!

Thank you for making these review videos!
I picked up the Blade 97 Elite recently. It paddles well, but some parts are a bit cheap. Broken parts had to be fixed on my own because Dick's/Field & Stream were not helpful. Before first use the plastic "lock" on the inside of the dry hatch broke off. The lid would still flap open and close, but wouldn't lock. I was able to fix this by installing a small screw in it's place. Upon first use of the kayak one of the foot pegs broke. They are plastic, adjustable, and generally universal in design, so I was able to pick up a replacement set online. I keep the spare peg inside the kayak in case another break happens while I'm on the water. The customer service from Field & Stream was semi-terrible... firstly the phone agent didn't seem to know what a kayak foot peg was, and he needed a thorough description of the part... which I still find astounding. Secondly, their parts department simply never contacted me back. With all that said, I am happy with the Blade. I think it is a great choice for the money.

Been waiting to see someone review the pioneer... I just grabbed 1 and really enjoy it so far.. i will also add i slipped when getting in today and flipped my boat getting in first thing 😅... Dry hatch kept my phone dry..🥳, no leaks at all... boat did fill with water quickly... Id say atleast half. I drug it up the bank best i could and pulled the drain.. the more it drained the more i could lift to drain more.. then had a great 5hrs paddling lol afterwards... Stay safe everybody... 1 more thing, i would rather the sliding rubber leg guards like the mustang and i prefer the stationary foot rest too, i may swap them out... The mounts look the same. With all that said and with no regrets, i do feel like it is overpriced about $70-80ish* i dunno, im just a beginner. I guess long story short, if i had to do over id probably get the mustang 120 and save a few bucks, but I am overall still happy! 🤘

Next time you roll it, and it's full of water, try to roll it on it's side in the water, have someone help you left the bow and stern at the same time, it will allow the water to drain more quickly, and you can use the boat's buoyancy to your advantage.

I have a Pelican Sentinel 100X which is very similar to the Blitz 100X, accept for 2 major upgrades, instead of the ExoPod(Bag in back that isn't waterproof) the Sentinel has a Exopak (2 rod holders, 3 Spots for Plano Tackly box with bungee, and a spot they advertise for as being for a 6 pack of bear), and the Sentinel has adjustable foot braces. For what it is my sons (16 and 18) and I love it! Whenever I go out with my one of my sons and my 4 year old daughter, the son takes the Sentinal and my daughter and I take our Sea Eagle SE 370 Pro package, which was our first watecraft we ever had. I'm going to build outriggers for it(adds Stability), add a stand assist strap, add foam decking, a couple gear tracks for accessories, and make an anchor trolley system. I may or may not add a stadium seat. The seat in it is actually pretty good, however when i add the outriggers and stand assist strap i may want to upgrade to a stadium seat to be higher up and be able to stand easier. I also added good handles on the sides above the molded in handles because the molded handles are kinda cumbersome, and I'll also be replacing the ones in front and back as well. The only other thing I'm going to do for maintenance, is add keel guards on the button to protect the bottom from damage. Personally, for the price and features I would definitely recommend the Sentinel 100X to anyone who is wanting a decent entry level kayak, or someone who wants a 2nd light and maneuverable kayak for the quick grab and go:) The Exopak is also a very good alternative to a milk crate.

I bought Dicks sporting goods Teton Pro 116 for $540 before taxes and returned it only due to durability of the plastic. I bought a kayak trailer and babied the thing only to see some pretty rough scuffs. I went ahead and got the Crescent light tackle and haven't been able to get on the water yet. Thanks for the reviews!

Lifetime needs to make some that have a higher weight capacity some where in the 400-450 pound range . Right now I think they are on an average of 275-325 pound limit

Seeing that many kayaks in one spot seems crazy. I looked for weeks, had to buy in advance, then drive an hour an a half to get a castaway 100. First thing I changed after using it is that ergo seat. Those are.....awful. BUT, it’s actually a pretty good kayak.

Thanks for the video series. I'm not surprised about the larger selection as the date reflects first year of Covid. I haven't kayaked in many years and have learned a lot from your videos, thanks for your time! Went and rented and was worried about motion sickness, took meds, was ok. I was going to try a sit inside because I wanted maximum stability but they put me in a Perception sit on top which I believe was 10 footer, I should have asked. Nice paddle around Newport beach area. Unfortunately the prices are high even now so I will have to wait for prices to go down, what do you think of Perception sit inside kayaks?

Apart from a whitewater kayak my smallest production FRENZY was by Ocean Kayak.
Cheap because it was a 'Industrial Second', price reduced due to a molded color issue,
which customers have to ask for from the manufacturer. I used mine to paddle 18 miles
of tidal water around a Salish Sea island. On a weekend that included a 12 hour gale.

I just picked one up. Took it out for the first time and paddled 5.5 miles last weekend. Loving it so far! I really had to dig deep and paddle hard to get my tamarack up to 3mph...the pioneer is smooth on the water and can maintain 3mph with moderate effort.

@@jlemert9300 awesome! How did it track? It is only a 10 footer so I'd guess tracking is pretty eh compared to longer yaks

    • @jlemert9300
      @jlemert9300 3 роки тому +1

@@marcguerino5645 I think it tracks great! This is only the 3rd kayak I've paddled (all 10') and I found it just "easy paddling". That 5.5 miles was only my second time out this year and I wasn't sore at the end of the day. At 43lbs and sit inside, I find it exponentially easier to "grab and go" compared to my hobie passport 10.5...which the pioneer paced with as my brother was moderately peddling.

I have a lifetime Teton great kayak I’m over 215lbs and it’s not top heavy but the clips for the chair at very poorly made as Dan pointed out one of them fell off when I was loading on top of the car Right after I bought it in the Dicks parking lot. I was able to pop the clip right back in but I can just tell it’s not lasting forever.

One thing about the sit in kayaks is the drainage holes they have at the tip of the bow, on my Quest Silvermine, it has a threaded plug to seal it, while the Pelican Mustang 100X was just an open hole.
Does it serve a purpose for helping with draining out on the water when flipped or is it intended only to help get some of the water out at the end of the day?
Was the hole in the Mustang supposed to have a rubber plug in it that was missing when I got it maybe?

I've been watching your videos for a little over a year now and about a year ago I purchased a Crescent CK1. I have a question.
I want to buy a kayak for my wife who's about 5'6" and 150. In all your videos, I see you talk about how longer boats take less energy to paddle. Is this also true if that equates to a heavier boat? Would someone my wifes size have an easier time paddling the Crescent Ultralite which is a foot shorter but 15 pounds lighter?

Blow molding is alot faster cycle molding. I'm guessing around 3 minutes to mold these 10 ft kayaks. Depends how many cooling channels on the mold.
I can run a 2 cavity resonator for a Subaru on 85 cycle with a wall thickness of 3.5 mm due to sound.
But that's molding from a wore out 30 year old blow machine.

The pelican blitz is awesome. I can stand up to pee but I can't fish. However, it really cuts through the water well and its stable as hell. In all types of water. The seat is absolutely horrendous but otherwise its a great boat. Just small at 9.5ft

Also Dan! If you ever get time to talk give me a shout, I actually found your channel roughly 2 years ago and fell in love with paddle sports. Im from Texas and actually live about 1 mile from village creek, 10 miles from the neches river, and 30 miles from the gulf of Mexico. We do not have any dedicated paddle sports shops in our area and have a huge market for it, so I've been kicking around the idea of opening a kayak/canoe shop in our area and I could use some pointers on how to get started, how to become a dealer, ect... Again if you're ever free give me a shout!
