Look. Someone from the Reason HQ finally posted a good Reason video. Finally. Respect to Ron. Good workflow, very detailed and eloquent. No kids cartoon stuff, no hype just plain ol good music techniques and good sounds.
Nice to see Ron back on our screen again parting his wisdom. These are the type of reason artists we need to see more of - Utilising Reasons CV in creative ways and making it sound good. Great stuff ;)
Wicked stuff, always a pleasure seeing folks CV madhouses. I'm so happy that someone is showing how reason rack devices can interact with vst, it adds so much value and experimental fun. Btw the rack extensions dials do indeed dance, but only when hooked into combinator CV and controls.
Mad watching this as I've been delving more into pulsers' uses, and you're right,it's brilliant for all kinds of modulations!cheers for this tutorial though,as per usual very clear and easy to understand.cheers Tonescapes
15:36 - "they don't do it in the Rack" is not because of graphics processing, but because Pulsar (or any CV control) provides MODULATION, not AUTOMATION of the parameter, i.e. it moves the target parameter AROUND its current position. Some other DAWs have a way of showing this, e.g. parameter value is stationary, but there's a ring around it to show its movement (like in Serum, or Pigments, too). If you want to see how Rack parameters are moved by Pulsar, you should use Combinator as a "intermediary" :)
Another way to do parallel without all the cabling is just right click a track on your main mixer channel then 'Create Parallel Chanel', then just add send fx to your new parallels and blend to taste.
Hi Ron (or anyone who can answer!). Quick question: I downloaded the demo for Phoscyon 2 for my Reason 12 setup after watching your video. Considering buying it. Problem is that it won't 'learn' midi control for parameters (EG Drive). It's picking up midi triggers for pattern change set in Host mode, and it's picking up parameter control from Pulsar through CV. But when I right-click a parameter, click 'learn' and twist the knob, no reaction. I checked already that other synths are picking up midi learn from the same knobs, and tried two separate midi surfaces which are both working and properly connected, as well as restarting Reason. I wondered if you'd encountered/solved this problem. Thanks for the video. (Comments below) I've sent a support ticket to D16 as well.
Fixed this... for anyone who's having the same issue: Use the Remote button at the top of the Phoscyon window above the representation of the machine itself (the Remote button that's there for all VST3 plugins). Then click the Parameter as instructed and it learns. Right-click and context menu still doesn't work, but that doesn't bother me. D16 says it's a Reason issue. Phoscyon 2 is great - quite different from the more popular ABL3 which I also use. Better for higher-up lines around the concert A pitch.
Perhaps I’m late to the party, but what exactly is the description of “darkroom”? I’m from Chicago where this would be more under the radar. I’m all about learning!
Check artists like Adam Beyer, Woo York, Victor Ruiz, Joy Hauser, UMEK, etc defined as "Darkroom is a sub-genre of techno / house music characterised by its deep, brooding, and often sinister atmosphere. It typically features heavy, pounding beats, minimalistic arrangements and known for its use of dark, industrial sounds, eerie melodies, and repetitive motifs, which contribute to its ominous and dystopian feel." 😉
wath kind of controler he had ? i onlye had a panorama p6 but the other controllers he had are pretty good at first glance. Well done video grettings from Chile
@@ronheadback Thanks for the reply!! Well That explains why I could not place it. Thats a lot of controllers! I love that. I use a Novation 49SL Mk III and really enjoy it for both DAW work and also when Its just my 707 and tr-8s. What a dream to have that many controllers. Is it all mapped on the fly or have you taken the time to map all your devices already? With the rack so extensive in devices I have always struggled with how to control it all and end up using my mouse more than I want to.
I too know the sound 'outside' a club or warehouse, a 'sound' that is universally banned on this planet. Let's face it having anything to do with this kind of music will get you secretly blacklisted - forget finding employment or any kind of income. 🖋

I want more of these "Reason as a DAW" videos. This is the kind of stuff that inspires us to make music. Well done sir!

Even I am only a beginner when it comes to the dark arts of CV mastery 😅Glad you enjoyed!
YES. @ReasonStudios more of this stuff covering different rack devices.
Ron rules. Great tute.
Thanks glad you enjoyed. 🤜🤛
Great video, definitely in need of more advanced stuff like this from Reason!

loads of great things to do with Pulsar - the Swiss army knife of Reason😉
This was a crazy video, absolutely banger. How’d he know I was working on some “dark room” 😂😂😂

Yeah, I do this once I am sure of my choice in FX. My "parallel" is just to get flavour on my drums quick n dirty 🥳
Fantastic video
Excellent, practical, useful. 💯 --Edit: Just downloaded the Combi and followed the instructions (after a fashion). Very impressive.
Really Nice!. Thank you for the tutorial AND the combinator.
This is a great video, great tips, just what i need for inspiration and always welcome thanks man! More please!
LFO 2 in Pulsar can modulate the level of LFO 1 without leaving the front of the rack! It is what that middle section between LFO1 and LFO2 is for!
Yeah I always overlook this in my routing fever, from LFO 2 has inverse too which is handy
Love those videos (and the music)!
Keep them coming :)
Why Reason is so good.
Thank you sir
thank you for enjoying 😉

@@ronheadback wath a king. thanks for answer me
What is that controller you are using?!?
Cool sounds!! Thanks for the tips and downloads!!

Why didn't you tell me that in the 90s? :)
I was lost in the dark room🤣
