Road to 500 Days - Part 5: Looking for Moose
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лют 2023
- With a bow in hand and a bear down, it is time to find a moose This will make future exploration a lot easier, as we can carry more stuff. The only issue is finding the moose. They are rare, so we must venture into multiple regions to find one.
No chapters in this series, to keep immersion more viable. This might change in the future.

I can't move 100 metres in this game without wolves attacking me
This guys is the reason I can survive more than five days on interloper 😅
i died in the first minute of my run 😭 that's why i just stick to customed voyager where i have little resourses lol
@@pxraas_mm i still need to grind feats , someday finaly , i can run custom too
Damn you're so good!! It took me a whole 70+ days surviving on voyageur first to at least survived for 12 hours on interloper. And i need 200+ hours of gameplay first to make me at least can survive for 3 days on interloper. Nice job!
@Snorlax I felt the same way until I tried it. I was actually surprised of how far I was able to go.
Same. I'm almost 300 days on Interloper thanks to Zak!
I'll never forget the shock of meeting Fluffy in the Dam the first time, way back.
Real ones know 😢
New drinking game: Every time Zak brings up his 1000 day run you take a drink! Love ya Zak! Great video as always!
Or moos spawn 😂
or marginally lmao
Or Misc. 😂
We’re on day 17 friends.
Glad you found that maple syrup, Zak. When you first missed it I was going crazy haha. You also missed a book at 1:04:21. Looks like a frontier shooting guide, so not a big deal. But it's there in the box by the lockers.
Same here I was going mad about the syrup
I think it’s the ice fishing guide!
Farmstead was my favorite base. The size and hunting but it also felt the most like a home. Use to be a mod thst let you fix the broken cabinets
Commenting for the algorithm

Sometimes all you need for happiness is a little more Zak after a hard work day. You doing great job! Much appreciated.
So I just recently found your channel and I’m loving the content. Was waiting for part 5 😅
That PV Barn loot was crazy. I'm pretty sure there was nothing but really minor misc on my main run and you got stim, prybar, hammer, flare pistol and good boots, what a jackpot.
I'm so glad you found that maple syrup. I saw it out the corner of my eye when you first walked past it and was hoping you'd see it before the end of the video and you did! Love this series. Hope you find a moose next time 🦌
It's snowing and cold outside... This is a perfect time to continue watching this serie ! :D
Man I waited for this so long! Time to make some popcorn and get snug in my blanket!
Wolves must fear Zak and leave the region when he enters. I have played about a dozen times in ML on Voyager, and they are everywhere. Zak plays on Interloper, and there are none 😂
"which makes it very very safe"
-> blizzard be like "shouldnt have said that"
Love this series and look forward to the coming episodes!
Pleasant Valley can be so dangerous! I'm currently doing a Stalker run and the closest I was to dying was while getting lost in a long blizzard somewhere on the fields near the Barn. In the end, I managed to find the birch forest, slept a few hours in the active bear cave and managed to find Thompson's Crossing just before freezing too death.
It really can be. That place tried its best to kill me on *pilgrim* with blizzard after blizzard. It didn't get into actual condition damage, but i wasn't finding any sticks, my clothes were quite soaked, and i was running very low on fuel as i ran around no doubt inches away from proper shelter that i just couldn't actually see.
Learning my way around using Zak. LOL
So am i! I have not left mystery lake without Zak showing the way XD
Getting back into this game after a break. The one thing the game is missing is your voice, it resonates with me just thinking of TLD. Love coming back to new vids, Thank you lots.
Thank you. Hope your run goes well!
Back from a warm vacation and super happy to see these cold videos.
I do traditional archery, the way you showed aiming at the target is exactly how it works in real life, it's really cool how they bothered to model that so well.
been Vibing to your videos these 1.5 hour videos are a really good thing to just....unwind to at the end of the day. when my own gaming juices are drained. I"m here for the long haul, with you!
I heard hunting moose is al-moose-t impossible
dad joke 101
It's almost as unbearable as hunting the bear..
I'm partial to dad jokes but let's not rabbit on about it, deer.
Next on the Long Dark, Zak goes looking for a Sasquatch...
Never get tired of watching you play this game 🙂
Was watching this is on the TV with my mom, and she and the cat fell asleep lol
Haha even the cat
Hello, good to see a new video !
This series has become my morning coffee time. The way you talk is so calming but also engaging at the same time. Keep it up! :D
Still excited for this series 😋
One on my best runs i spawned near trappers and got the moose on the first day! Super lucky.
The best long dark youtuber😁
Zak!, you left me alone in the dark....., and im scared 😓.
Did he leave you in the dark for a LONG time? 😂
What a delight, my day is complete. Thank you!
This is the first Time i saw an Item in a Box and Zak didnt saw it.
1:04:21
Ah damn you caught it before me i spotted it too! :) let's hope he finds the shooting guide or our comments!
Thank you Zak 👍
16:00
ML is a pretty small region. I’ve been attempting 50 days in each region, and I just left PV and headed to ML. I was shocked by how small it felt! It had been about 200 days since I was last in ML, and I kinda missed the place. It felt like home :)
Finally my favourite series
I’m really diggin this series. I probably watch you play this game more then I can play this game.
Hi Zak, the moose has been elusive. If the moose had been evasive, that assumes you always knew what it was before it started dodging you. 😂
In my interloper run I saw a moose on trappers on day 7 or 8 I think, of course I hade no weapons at this early stage of the run… I decided to make trappers my main base… now I am day 49 and i never saw a moose again….
Yes! Been waiting for this.
Many thanks really enjoying this game (as i said before i a, so rubbish at this game) and it is helping me get better.... looking forward to the next episode.
Another great video!!!
As always an enjoyable episode, cheers.
You've become one of my favorite UA-camrs. Love you bro
Through these first videos in the series, I’m amazed at ur knowledge of this game. Tbh I thought torches were just a waste😅
I really enjoy these!
i love ur channel bro
I like those purification tablets early on in Interloper because they save you a good 3h to make 4L of water. It's great when you want to get going. The memento hint stuff had me NUTS in TWM after a PV start. I went around the memento areas several times looking for something and nothing was there LOL!
So the purification tablet does not need stove and it’s instant ?
Congrats on 20k subs. Hope you get many more.
+1 ! Well-deserved.
I love your videos and I'm a Olympic Recurve Archer who laughed at your suggestion that was a good group of arrows. I know its got game physics but if that were a target in real life that would be a terrible group hahahahahaha
Haha, I am an archer as well (recurve), and in re-watching I agree that grouping is awful. I probably meant it in more beginner context and animal hitboxes, as in that the arrows are fairly close together if we assume that was an animal to hit.
Loved the vid, also thx for the tip videos they helped me a lot!
1:04:21 you missed a book in the drawer on the floor to the right of the yellow lockers. Also 1:06:10 you literally mouseover a jar of Maple Syrup and still miss it :p
Was waiting for this… top content keep going pls
There's another trick not to get lost in a blizzard or a dark, foggy night. Drop a stick from the inventory, it's pointy end always points north.
This is true, just keep in mind that "north" isnt necessarily "up" in the map, so it is best viewed as a consistent direction marker rather than north per se.
I'm just not the greatest with wolves. So I started a custom where the wolves are far and away from me. I still have plenty of challenges with them I just had to shoot one a couple hours ago. I'm playing on Switch(asked them to port it and they did! Not because of me though lol) and it's hard to aim at times. Anyway bagged it right before it got me and I harvested everything so I am starting a pelt collection for clothes and stuff!
Skill books: If you can't do it, teach it.
Zak: I can do it.
Goal. Jeremiah Johnson....
Make all types of animal clothing, and equip as much to yourself as possible.
Conquer nature, wear nature, become one with nature.
Hey survivorman look at me!
Nice video!
Still getting some amazing drops on this run. Surprised you didn't get the Pensive Vista moose. :)
Haha I like your image. I have yet to ever find the moose in any of my runs.
I wish there was a perk for alsonstaying hydrated for a certain amount of time. Like maybe increased movement speed by 5%? Cause your body has more than enough fluid to move properly or sumin.
It's here! ❤️🙏
This game gives me horror movie environment, from the old houses and rattling walls. It'd be scary if it had a theme like the TV show "From" by Jack Bender, where some humans did survive but most became monsters.
I personally find Carcass Harvesting more valuable than Archery to level since I can then harvest everything by hand without needing a fire which is a great conservation of resources. I often will kill an animal but leave it until a day when it is sunny so I can use my mag lens. I then start a fire but still don't want to have to wait for it to thaw or waste tool durability so being able to start harvesting immediately after lighting the fire is great. Archery 5 is great for when I go to Blackrock or Bleak Inlet but since neither of those is early on my list of places to visit I find it less valuable. Also Fire Starting Level 3 to get rid of tinder is pretty nice. Fire Starting 5 I don't find as necessary but it is nice to no longer need to torch trick to a light a fire as that does save on resources if you have guaranteed stick fire start.
39:00 I think that wolf encounter there is scripted for the first time it happens. I've noticed that every time I go through the winding river for the first time, whenever I approach that wolf it attacks the rabbit and gives you a chance to scare it away and walk by.
1:00 mark...... i been inside tht little barn handful+times never noticed the path up to the rafters....
Thanks! Another good episode! Info about moose spawn locations is very helpful. Lucky find in that safe and NOT the barn as well. At this rate you can open a shop and start selling prybars and distress pistols :)
P.S. Today I went to Bleak Inlet first time in my life. Interloper, day 180+ (yeah, I'm slow), 15 arrows and so on. I left with 6 arrows, never got inside the warehouse/workshop and I'm not sure I will ever go there again. I didn't know I need a passcode and didnt ant to go back to tower thingy :(
My last run I didn’t go to Bleak Inlet until day 202. Then I died on day 205. Longest run I’ve had so far. I hate that place
Totally get that, the climb to and from the radio tower plateau can be a real headache, but I'm sure you can make your way back there with some persistence. Took me quite some time getting the passcode on top of actually getting an aurora at the right time.
there is a book in da basement, in a container.
Love your content, and I love the community of Long Dark. It's fun and relaxing to watch, and I think that's what I like about this game. It's something you can just invest into, with enough to focus your attention, but not so much that you're rushed along. It's fun. I hope the developers up the animal behavior a bit, it'd be cool to see bears chase deer or wolves like the wolves chase deer. Or watch them eat the carcasses/roam. Anyway, love watching your stuff Zak! Are you hopeful for the ice fishing rework? I personally am!
yea i didnt understand that moose wasnt always there if u seen it there before.
Mystery lake map i SEEN the moose by the small hunter cabin middle back of the map. i went back for it when ready nothing...... i sat on the rock reading books all day waiting never saw it......... day 2 same thing nothing. i finally left the spot to hunters cabin by the cave. etc nothing nothin all the way. slept went back to wher i know i seen it day 4 now. and it was finally there.
Got to day 100 on interloper for the first time recently. Did all the hard stuff: got the technical backpack, forged, crafted a bow, deer pants and boots, wolf coat, bearskin bedroll…
… and then a wolf surprised me outside carter dam and I died 😢
Welcome to interloper my boy.
I feel like most of these buildings would have some type of oil or alcohol generator.
Not for long continuous usage, but enough for a few hours in a blizzard, or when your looting.
Your videos are so informative! Maybe if I'd watched your videos first, I wouldn't have fallen through the ice four times one after another and died on my very first run (in voyager) T.T But I'm on pilgrim now and I'm excited to learn the ropes from that and from you!
The Intro Music…. Gives me so much „Last of Us“ vibes… chilles all over my body
Its the same instrument and inspired by the same artist (Gustavo) so that might be why :) Last of Us has great music!
@@Zaknafein would love to see a let’s play from you with last of us… imho the very best game of the last 2 decades.
@@AmplifyChris maybe one day. It is a fantastic game!
i save scum now and then. like hunting for caches in mystery lake. i leave cabin go to cache1 , if not there alt f4 start again for #2 rinse and repeat, unless they are close together like 2 near the cleared forrest or whatever its called. top right ish.
i did it this way to save on food-water etc. not to mention hard to find nice days sometimes. so it really allowed me to utilize good days. for just messing around.
i mean it is just a game. we should be allowed to play as we wish. its 1 thing i learned about some devs like the long dark...... how they hand tie the players ability to be creative in someways. I feel some devs forget they are making a VIDEO game..... not everyone likes to do the same stuff.
If you want to save scum, save scum. But do keep in mind that the devs made the game in a way that you don’t HAVE to. I’m not telling you off, just saying.
Missed a book in the pleasant valley farmstead basement. It's in one of the drawers laying on the ground by the lockers.
In PV the filing cabinet in the basement just past where the match spawn was. I have found a mag lends in it. You have to walk up close and look down into the open dewar.
I had markings in the birch forest and tried to find it for like a week gave up and found it within a day in BI lol
I was totally dumbfounded when I found that rabbitskin hat. I wondered if it was a bug!
Love your channel,do you have a video on the main story? would like to see that
Thank you - I do not have videos on Story Mode yet, unfortunately, although I have played it. I will likely make it after Episode 5 comes out.
Maple Syrup missed @ 1:06:10 in the cabinet above the countertop.
Nevermind...You found it! lol
hi nice vid walkthro👍 ty
I feel like I've seem moose marking in trappers cabin and coastal highway
Why is the dam so dark in my game? When I get in, I can just see the main area, if I go beyond the first room I have to use a lantern or torch because is so dark even during the day. I have spent 20 days in the dam and it is never clear beyond the first room, and in your game and in another video by another gamer, the whole dam is illuminated.
Loving your content, thanks!
Need to drop the metal when you pick them up. You tend to carry it around.
yayaya, binge watched the last two episodes yesterday and was waiting for this one! just a quick question out of curiosity, where is your accent from zak? 😅😅
I am Norwegian but have lived a lot in the United Kingdom :)
I am halfway through your NOGOA series but stopped to watch this episode and it's shocking how much easier Interloper now seems by comparison, especially how far you are able to travel in a day. I never thought I'd say this, but after about 10 episodes of NOGOA it seemed like Interloper suddenly has way too much loot.
1:06:10 missed the maple syrup on the cabinet shelf.
What about the moose spawn up past hat creek? The one you can get to through the cave or using the climbing rope… the one you have to carry from the cave to the rope point
Yes thats the birch forest spawn I refer to. I find the moose spawn in a later episode :)
Zak, what is your least favourite region?
Hard to say, I think all of them are great. If I had to say one, probably Blackrock.
Another TLD creator I watch has also had trouble finding the moose! I wonder if there's been a change to it since the update.
Let's goo !
Hey Zak, I think you touched on it in a recent video but do birch saplings “respawn” and potentially give unlimited arrows? Or are they a one time harvest?
They don’t respawn, but they may occasionally wash up on one of the beaches (at least until beachcombing gets changed)
1:38:07 now I know what they look like 😊 thx
read a long time ago, that if u have in ur hands smth and going on slope, risk of sprained wrists higher. dont find this info on wiki, can someone confirm this?
I don’t think that’s necessarily true, from a developmental standpoint, punishing players for being prepared with a weapon or something doesn’t make sense.
Then again it could be true, I don’t know for sure
1:04:20 The box in front of the locker has a Book inside of it - and i am not sure it'S a shooting guide - and i think it's the one for archery now isn't it? @Zaknafein - did i find something you missed? =D
Glad I searched before posting, it does look like an archery book. A sneaky spot for sure!
@@johnbirkholz994 i didn't too my shame but i found the first one and just pushed his post as well :D
I play the second easiest mode because I love loot and I am a new player. Sometimes I have to pause your video if I play at the same time because I can't tell if the wolf sounds came from your game or mine
You missed a book on 01:04:18 (A book that is unnecessary to read, but I just say this for the sake of knowing.)
Nicely spotted!
Blessings upon our house, for today we have truly been gifted by the beings above! You see, they dare throw scraps to us hungry, penurious plebeians. We are ever so thankful, for this content shall be a true feast that will surely carry us through the winter months and into spring where we can once again toil in the dirt for a meager living.
We bow our heads to thee, oh merciful content. Thou will shall be done. You shall be consumed ravenously.
WHAT?!?! There's a SECOND channel... well, well... my days are now too short :(
Zak, where can we find your old TLD runs? I want to watch your 1000 day Interloper series but it's not on this channel or your archives.
The old run was done on Twitch and only some of Day 120-500 was streamed. I only have some of the raw footage saved and kept mostly clips. This is another reason why another run was started, so we have the whole thing from start to finish :)
