Road to 500 Days - Part 6: Moose Hunting in Timberwolf Mountain
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 бер 2023
- Our journey through Mystery Lake and Pleasant Valley was not fruitful in terms of finding a moose, although we were rewarded with good gear. It is time to go into Timberwolf Mountain, where a moose can be found... surrounded by wolves.

01:20:01: "And what do we see here? An unfortunate survivor, crushed by the rocks. Hard way to go... Heeey, matches! And chocolate!" xD
Near the end of the episode, Zak said something that made me think of a cool idea. Imagine, when you first start playing this game, there are no corpses anywhere. However, whenever you die, a random corpse is placed wherever you died with the chance to get some of the loot you had on you at the time you died, with the exception of whatever difficulty/setting you're currently playing on. This would continue with each run, further adding bodies, regardless of difficulty.
In project zomboid if you die by zombification you can find your latest survivor and get all your loot that you had on you
That would be a fun mode! Kinda like PZ
It’s obviously not true but I like to think of those bodies as places the devs died when developing the game 😂
New Game+
I think there is something similar in Nier:Automata, where you can find bodies of other players and your own and loot them.
Have a nice day, fellow survivors.
The hut is also my favorite base that I've tried. One of the things I like about it is that the outside world never "resets". Every time you go into a loading screen interior, the animals outside reset their locations when you exit. But with the hut, that doesn't happen, which makes their locations more consistent and realistic. It's especially useful when you wound a bear or moose, and don't want to hang out outside freezing.
This episodes drinking game word is: birch.
Prepare to get plowed!
Great video as always Zak!
Your videos are always so well done and you do a great job explaining what you’re doing as you play. It’s just good, quality content
Zak goes looting in a blizzard. As one does. 😱
Oh man - i was hoping this episode would come out soon - wanted to know if you'd ever find a moose (or better yet: "a Room with a Moose")! Love the series Zak!
Part 6 is ready ! Best Thursday ever ! 😍
Another point for best base is that you also can craft outdoors in mountaineers hut, just stand in the right spot in front of the door (opened from the inside) an try to reach the workbench ;)
Could you explain why you should do that?
@@yankeewithnobrim226 I’m guessing to semi combat Cabin Fever? You can craft from outside until your temperature empties and then go inside to replenish, rinse and repeat. It’s well protected from the wind on 3 sides too.
@@gabrielmontesinos6435 Thanks, I’ll keep it in mind next time I’m in TWM.
You have a very calming speaking voice. I would get audio books read by you. Your the only reason I could pick this stressful game up and see it as playable. I tried years ago and put it away. I mean this in the most platonic way. Your calm demeanor during all the stuff coming at the character in this game and your voice providing insight and helpful advice are a godsend. I really fought with this game before. The wind, the blizzards, the moose, the bears, the wolves, the fog, how squishy this character is. Astrid always seems to be hungry, tired and breaking something vital. I just found myself in my stressful work day putting on this video to listen to it in the background. There is really something to be said for your speaking talent. Thanks. I'm glad I found this channel. Also I hope you and your wife collab on games together in the future. It was nice to hear the two of you collab that game recently. Was thinking y'all would be entertaining on Minecraft or It Takes Two.
Kills a giant moose *yawns* Astrid is a Chad
Hunting moose Is almost none luck ever. Is learning (from self or others) and terrain awaresness. Great video. And thanks for another one learning. The tea-circle-xploit
Thanks for the great content. I started playing interloper because of your guide series and now am on day 135. You’re the tld encyclopaedia keep it up !
At time marker 26 minutes possibly I have this playing in the background while I'm working.
Thank you for mentioning the tool stuck into areas it's a good thing to hear.
I know there's former comments but I like the way you do it thank you again to the channel producer also to anyone who reads this that watches the channel producer thank you for all of the support you've given them through this content and other content if you haven't seen their newest I believe on grounded.
Apologies of this message makes no sense just want to say thank you on multiple things also I don't know if this will send if it doesn't my apologies again if it does hopefully to readable Be well
To the comment of the large birch bark drops, if you wish to trigger this easily and frequently I noticed that if you only pick up birch possibly near the end of a wind storm. I find it occurs a heck of a lot more. I'm on console though so I don't know if that plays a role I figured it was just a RAM issue
The memento in the piano contains stims!
So happy for the weekly episodes!
10:01 Very useful cache for the long run. 3 emergency stims. Easy to pick up on one's way from TM through PV, just gotta follow the path/road from the crash site all the way to Thompson's Crossing.
I had to keep binge watching all your old stuff while i wait for more of this to come out lol. This is such a great series. Keep on surviving!
My 8th time watching this episode (while im sleeping). Always fall asleep while watching this.
I imagine the user story for the fire duration sounded something like this: "As a player I want my campfires to last longer when I'm outside as opposed to when I'm inside." And probably the Acceptance criteria also mentioned the playered position. So the dev implemented the featured according to the story, the QA validated it based on the AC, and everyone was happy.
super excited for the next ep
Woop woop! Absolutely loving this series.
1:20:28 I've always thought that you don't take a dead persons clothes because firstly they're frozen to the corpse, secondly because doing so could damage or desecrate the corpse, and thirdly I doubt your main character would want to wear a dead mans clothes anyway. Any clothes you might find on a corpse I choose to believe are an extra clothing item they had in a pocket or bag somewhere and weren't wearing.
Thats a good way of looking at it
You seem to be getting much nicer weather than me. My current interloper run is on day 63 and my log shows 49 blizzards. After I found a lens, it was probably half a week before I could actually use it.
I did my first ever bear hunt yesterday (in game day ~55), over by Trapper's. I got mauled, lost both of my wool toques and tore up my brand new deer pants, deer boots and rabbit mitts, losing about 8 degrees of cold protection in total. The bear finally went down ~100m from camp office so harvesting it was easy. Then I had enough food to make a wolf coat out of the wolves who didn't run away with my arrows.
49 blizzards on day 53 is crazy props to you for surviving so long with a blizzard almost every day lol
Thank you Zak!
About matches in the cabin. I am not sure they are 100%. I had a TWM spawn few weeks ago and I died because there were no matches. The usual not-Zak start - early and a blizzard :)
Good hunt! GZ!
Yeah, there is a bug. When you walk TO a cave, you see branches and limbs, but when you walk OUT of this cave, some are just gone. You need to walk around and let them re-spawn, when you are far enough and dont see them. It actually did kill me once. I fell under ice, had to go to a cave, aurora started, I knew there was a limb, but it didnt spawn, so I had to walk around.... and there was a wolf.
My first interloper attempt spawned me in forlorn muskeg during an aurora 😢
I found matches in Anglers Den in my current interloper run, was about to die as usual and that saved the run!
time to get comfy
Congrats on the big-even of 20k, Wolf-Shaman! Much deserved, Zak ... Keep up the magic. :)
been watching these episodes before bed, i like how you left this one off :D i get anxious when the needs get low, and nearly three of them went to zero this ep 😫 looking forward to continuing this series!
loving this and the outerloper series, i cant wait for more!
Really cool to have done so much by day 17. It takes me back to some of my earlier Interloper runs back in 2017 and there was one of them that it took me until day 26 to forge the knife and hatchet, surviving mostly with cattails, stoning rabbits, and a mag lens; in another run it was day 70-something when I found the bedroll, day 150ish when I saw my first Moose (in MT). Experience is everything in Interloper, it changes the game pace dramatically.
Moose has the high ground just like Obi-wan haha 37:55
Yay you got it! All that food will keep you going a while
Still on my first run on voyager. Just started playing and your videos are the only reason i survive
Nice, love the video! It's always cool to see how you play, and I know watching you has made me improve a lot.
On the topic of coffee in interloper, I actually found seven total cups in the bank in Milton when I was playing my current run the other day! There's one in a microwave that I think may always be there, but I found another cup on one of the small computer desks and a tin near the benches at the entrance. It was pretty cool!
Loving this series and long episodes 😁 Jo.C
I reaaaaaaaally enjoy these episodes!
For the Piano cache, I believe that the storage location that you can click on does not activate until the scrawled message is picked up from the car in point of disagreement.
You’re correct I am in pleasant valley rn and I haven’t been to point of disagreement and I’m not allowed to open the piano
You can billy goat up to Homesteaders Respite. It involves going sideways on the slope for a long way. From there, it’s a lot easier to get to the mine.
Aside, I really wish you could drag and drop meat into a pot on the fire. :/
Ditto wood.
I agree. Its a small thing, but would be good. Or rather... wood be good o_O
14:16 that whole bed side of the bunker is redone now. Kinda cool :)
Considering that plastic bottles are in abundance pretty much everywhere on the planet I think there is no immersion loss by having so many water bottles. Teas and coffee can be stored in e.g. lidded glass cans which are rarer but common enough to have a hot cup of it stored. Obviously the game would loose a lot of visual if you'd have glass can icons in your inventory. Imo it was made perfectly fine to let the imagination do the rest.
You almost gave me a heart attack in the Forest Cave by standing between the cave opening and your fire 😱 I am super OCD about that now, since having an Aurora wolf come into the Milton Basin cave with me while I slept!
Do you think the devs will eventually implement the Fire Carrier technique from the Pikunii Tribe? They would carry a single burning coal in a buffalo horn to start the next campfire. Supposedly a burning coal would last about twenty hours.
I dont think they will do that :) good idea, though!
Great and Awesome videos
Save till Friday afternoon or binge now....
You missed a bandage on the floor board of the pickup truck in PV before the rope climb.
I've had that TM bear trail my sent halfway across the map. I never got anywhere near him, no agro.
Autumn today, we will all freeze soon -239°c. That's kinda very big huge cold
10:44 missed a bandage, passenger side floor of truck
you can use the fallen tree at the pound in timberwolf mountain to "trick" the bear if you duck under it and go on the opposite side (found it in a desperate situation with bear charging me)
That's kinda funny cause it's far more realistic than half the games out there. Id Name a few big survival games and examples but then everyone will get butt hurt
Moose time? Time to find out!
Not very important, but you missed a bandage at 10:40
Afraid in Fallout you can't loot every possible item an NPC is carrying, only whatever was generated in their inventory (or if F4,. whatever weapon they also dropped on the ground). Generally what they get in their loot inventory is related to what they wear assuming the lists are correctly done. KCD is the one where what you see is what they have and that's what you can steal/take.
What is KCD?
@@MaryGatdula Kingdom Come Deliverance.
@@Sheldezare Thank you!
Loving this content. Tiding me over until console update finally comes.
Does meat no longer cook faster in the pots? Noticed you cooked the moose without them
Edit: nvm u did do it in the cave 😂
The reason is because the UI for pots is a pain. You have to pick up the meat, then select, scroll, click, click. It's cumbersome.
I like 8 bit games they leave stuff to your imagination, I do not like ultra realistic looking AAA games, if things are too realistic then i may as well just go outside, not sure the point i was getting at here but games like the long dark are beautifully unreal enough for me to get emersed, as for the AAA titles i almost pity anyones PC that has to run them. I built my computer last year from last years best componants, and I still turn down settings in any game any and all games I play because thats how i like to play them. Its also nice to render stuff in minutes.
Lol i reached exactly same bunker today morning, checked entire crash side, found some good loot there, mostly some decent cloths, Im going back now to the Outbuldings Farm to collect my old stuff that i need and later on i will head out for the Timberwolf Mountain, made a moose coat and wolf coat so i think im ready for the next upcoming adventures far north :) maybe i will reach Ash Canyon who knows :) I reached day 80 in stalker mode, 1st time playing, wondering how long more i will survive :)
Great series! But I find myself acting like a mother hen to Zak's character. I'm forever saying, "no, don't do that it's too dangerous"! LOL Sometimes I forget that Zak is an excellent player, and I should have no worries. Still.....
Oh man, did you have to mention cave bases.... especially mentioning the cougars.....
They are probably going to have them sweep from the caves, to the hickory or birch forest... or even stalk your character..
Done part 1, 2, 3 and 4 i had to download the part 4 since i was away on wifi
Those preppers are not very… prepped on interloper. Lol
Does anyone else get “the last of us” game vibes from the opening theme?
It is the same instrument :)
More climate and prepper harsh. No bad humans to worry ;D
@@Zaknafein it’s fantastic!
The idea at about 22mins of just eating rabbit not being realistic is actually true.
Rabbit meat, while you can eat it, cannot just be eaten on it's own for long periods of time and ideally shouldn't be eaten on it's own full stop. Rabbits are VERY high in protien, but very low in almost everything else the body needs, including fat.
This leads to what's called 'rabbit poisening', or Protein Poisening. Why almost every survival manual recommends NOT eating rabbit if it can be helped, because it's ultimately worse for your survival
If you have lots of wood, why don't you build multiple fires? I've cooked bears and moose fairly quickly with 4+ fires at a time. It's like using a six burner stove
Yes, I do this sometimes. Only if I have enough wood. On the other hand, we are in no rush :)
Is there ever a scenario where one would consider breaking down the bigger branches instead of just collecting small sticks?
I do it sometimes, when necessary
i think a run without using rocks at all would be nteresting to see. survive 200 days or something with no rocks
NOGOA in a lot of ways is no rock, because the changing wind blows out his torches. Within 2 weeks he has a bow and then the rocks don't matter much
Just picked up the game and somehow found this channel. I swear that the worst part in this game is the fact that you do not know anything about it. Just reached 25 days in Mistery Lake - Camp office got the hang of some things but my main problem is that now i don't really know what else to do and i started to get bored a bit. But now that i found about that backpack it personally gives me an incentive to go exploring.
I've just started playing and my first decent run I've also ended up at the same place! It was really bad up to that point as I started in the place with the canning plant and got harried by wolves really badly and then really struggled to find shelter for ages and nearly died staying in a cave where I had to have a fire going to keep warm whilst sleeping and there were loads of blizzards. Playing on the second difficulty and I now have a pistol, loads of fishing lines and starting to feel comfortable although I keep losing animals after I've shot them! One deer I scared back towards camp office, shot it only for it to run up the hill past the railway line, I followed the trail but lost it on the tops somewhere and then had to give up searching for it as a blizzard came in, went back and looked twice and I didn't find it! Loving it, it's very immersive
I shot the bear near the Mountaineer's Hut. I followed the blood trail to the cliff, and the trail disappeared. It did show up as kill by the evening, but I was unable to find him. Now on to the moose.
Zak, do you have a snowman cairn thingy?
Would you ever do an "only sticks" challenge where sticks is the only allowed fuel?
I could but on regular loper that is already the case 90% of the time. You wouldnt be able to forge with only sticks, though, is the only thing.
I so rarely see people break down those larger limbs. I guess because sticks are free and don't cost durability, or an hour's time, etc. so the risk/reward isn't there? or are there other reasons?
Too risky in cold weather, usually
Hey survivors 😊 Does reheating teas by the fire allow you to gain skill points in cooking? Never actually checked and wondering if anyone knew?
I imagine you can’t do it again and again but for the first time at the fire I wonder?
It does not level cooking, EXCEPT if the tea was one you found and heated ;)
@@Zaknafein Ahhhhh okey dokey that makes sense. Thanks mate 😁
Question I have is how do you get more than 4 quarters out of a quartering operation?
Depends on the animal. Bear and moose give around 6. Wolf and deer give less.
So much moose meat cooked without using pots.
I wish that their solution to the Wolf Plateau has been to make it accessible, rather than to delete content.
I think the only thing on the realism part I'd like for them to change is the cooking time on food.... you really expect me to believe it would take over an hour for a campfire to cook a few pounds of meat? Seems kind of silly.
What button is he pressing to place stuff from his radial menu
Right click
@@Zaknafein does it still work in recent updates? Couldn’t seem to get it to work I was pressing everything I could think of lol.
@@harcormor its bugged atm but will be fixed soon :)
@@Zaknafein ah thanks so much!
At 1:02:10 you picked up a piece of meat with 6 minutes left to cook, put it back down and all of a sudden it's cooked. I'm definitely missing something- how does that work??
I didnt pick it up. I passed time :)
I've literally never noticed the "pass time until ready" prompt on food items before 😂😅
he clothing on skin will be frozen onto them
🧊☺👍
I justify the fact that you can’t loot the clothing of a corpse by figuring that the clothes are long ruined. On the other hand, there ought to be a mechanic whereby you can eat a corpse-with a really high chance of getting sick.
Carrying a lamp, 2 pots feels such a waste of weight
You dont need the pots, but they are wastly superior to cans, so I prefer them
tbh words like : spawn, the next spawn, ai and talking about game mechanics...etc take away the immersion . nice episode though
