- Grand Designs Series 5 Episode 8 With Kevin McCloud.
BAFTA winning Grand Designs is widely recognised as the pre-eminent series on modern architecture and design in Britain. It was originally conceived as a documentary series presented by designer and writer Kevin McCloud that takes us into the heart of life’s great unfolding human stories, where ordinary families risk all to experiment with architecture, technology, and their own lifestyle.
Now in its 24h year, Grand Designs is one of Channel 4’s biggest returnable factual series and has grown into a global phenomenon, selling in over 100 territories. Apart from the TV series, the Grand Designs brand has also expanded to include books, a monthly magazine, architectural awards and a biannual exhibition, Grand Designs Live.
This guy could narrate someone taping cardboard together and I’d happily watch his presentation.
Absolutely!
😂
Very true
so glad they're posting these old episodes online! I've already watched all the ones available on streaming like 100x
The sad thing is that they ARE BLOCKED IN THE uk!
So relaxing to watch them all again.
I myself love to watch an episode in bed at night. Thanks for making this possible by sharing these series.
I love this house and the landscape it sits on.
Yes, I am planning my own Grand Design. It’s just that I can’t afford it and it will never happen 😢.
PLANNING IS MOST OF THE FUN!
That is a spectacular place to live. Absolutely stunning house, land and landscape.
Surprising that I like the house and the setting. The interior is cold, not to my taste, but this is their home. I love the glass, to bring the outside in is what makes it special. I created my garden to give me privacy so that I may not use window coverings but I still enjoy my Florida sunshine year round. I used to live on a boat and the way that they have brought that element into the house is very pleasing. Well done!
This is what a true "Reality TV Show" should be.
I really love their home..inside and out. It makes me smile!
Thank you for posting these! I LOVE watching them and am VERY grateful!
Really like this one, well done!
I think it's beautiful. The lighting seems over-dramatic, but otherwise just beautiful. It fits the setting and looks right in it. Nice episode.
My "grand design" plan came together and having lived in it I'd only change a couple of details and it's so rewarding that I designed the house, the local authorities approved it and it was built all in Thailand managed by my wife with me in the uk. 3 during the construction visits and daily photos flowed.
Must be nice to have the funds to change your furniture and furnishings every 5-10 years.
It's not that hard to be honest.. Just earn good buck.. and tada.. even 2-3 years nothing :)
@@Demastikus this does not strike me as a good worldview - wasteful at the very least
Entitled
Are there certificates of occupancy in the UK? They wouldn't be able to move in without them in the U.S. I'm halfway through the episode, but the homeowner said he's moving at the end of November whether it's finished or not.
Gosh energy concerns and costs were not a high priority. I wonder if now in2023 the energy cost is excessive to keep this home warm.
Can someone, anyone please explain to me why people think a fish tank as a wall is a good idea? Seriously. NO, seriously?
You are right, just googled this house and there is a Daily Mail article about this house and the fish tank exploded while they were on holiday. Poor fish. so they had to replace it with acrylic and not glass the second round
STUNNING!!!!
So so beautifully placed
I think this is one of the most cold houses I've ever seen...it's so NOT comfortable...well at least for me.
You might turn on the subtitles/closed captioning for those of us who are hearing impaired. Please!
Sad poor guy can't get a brake omg my Hart goes out to him ❤❤❤❤❤
A quick scan of the internet and apparently, the older daughter, the little charmer Kevin spoke to, she followed her rather glamorous mum, by becoming a model..!
both the daughters are models i believe
So the house was on the market back in 2009 for 1.9 Million. So they ended up living there only three years or less. I guess they just get sick of things easily.. hearing that their previous house had 6 bathrooms...
No caption or subtitles 😢 Pls fix, #UA-cam.
Simone would have started an epic war at certain points in world history.
i like this guy
What is this pipe blowing on the side of the wall near the entrance? They forgot to evacuate it by the roof?
They should have raised the house floor above bank level.
If they get a flash flood, the ground floor will get flooded.
Predivno
Having three children so close to deep water must be a nightmare.
It's the UK they can swim
@@tobiasrab6447 UK kids are born swimmers? Ol got it.
@@kattihatt yes👍
@@kattihatt we start swimming lessons early here , I’m sure they will cope
@@7ofthemdoesnt matter. Accidents happen, and if youre not watching they are silent accidents. Dont be naive.
Only thing i dont like is glass staircase
Awesome house. Would looked better with an additional wing and only 1 story, just my 2c
It was their own decision, not to give a deadline for the builders and at the end they are whinging about not being able to move in on time. Funny people..
One of my favorite builds
Sad! It DOES look like a hotel ... or a showroom. Completely impersonal. Everything bought off the shelf. Nothing curated. Nothing collected. It lacks warmth and is completely devoid of charm. I would HATE to grow up in a house like that, despite the wonderful views. And they ARE wonderful!
One thing money cannot buy is Soul.
That I am afraid takes time.
You move into a new house, even with all your "stuff" from your old home, and then you start adding new and different "stuff as you find it or as it speaks to you - and slowly the "stuff" that you moved in with somehow starts to get less and less.
Then one day, maybe 10 or 20 years down the line, you suddenly realize that the house has taken on its own personality and you are not wanting to change anything...
Even the dent in the wall that your child made while recklessly careening around on their new tricycle one Christmas, that dent WILL NEVER BE REPAIRED or removed because it is a happy memory.
To each their own... And bless them for it.
@@TheMadManPlace Yes, I agree. But didn't they say they were moving in WITHOUT anything from before? Perhaps they have a reason for that? (They don't like their pasts/their families/anything old... ?). I just got the feeling that it was more about status (just MY take. I could be completely wrong!).
I do think that people often don't understand 'how' a home comes together with old and new ... that it's the blending, and having things that come down from parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles etc. ... or just pieces from flea markets that add a bit of drama/interest. So many times (and in MANY Interiour Design videos) it simply looks 'bought.' Which I think is sad.
But these people are happy, so... that's what counts. They have their dream.
I completely disagree , I love that it can breathe .. when people say charm or soul they usually mean full of Knick knacks , old style house .
@@7ofthem Well, that is NOT what I meant. (It's a bit sterile). Modern is wonderful, when done well.
I don’t think I would like these huge windows at night. Too exposed.
so much enginnering was put into this house, yet its easily the ugliest ive seen on grand designs 🤣
overall just an insane build tbh
I think the ugly was dictated by the planning dept. A shame, really
In your own opinion …
The dog was cute.
Awful house...
I agree.
i know who has the shoes in th relationship....why
Oh you do , do you ? You live with them do you ?
