Absolutely incredible!! This helps to give me confidence and inspiration about my upcoming year-long, around-the-USA-and-Canada Brompton trip with my trailer!
I love this so much. Tom, if you still check these comments, I hope you have read the first chapter of Moby Dick. It describes the Hudson and the Manhattan waterfront beautifully, in a way most New Yorkers don’t understand today. But I bet you understand.
Are plans for this boat available? The design looks really sharp! (Alternatively, as this is the Brompton channel, will there be an official brompton-branded folding boat?)
Awesome, Tom! Inspiring me to find a way to do this with a small dinghy sailboat. Any ideas on available models of sailboat / bike trailer combos? Thanks!
It is brilliant and courageous but what happens if your boat capsizes in temperatures like that shown in the video ? You have a son ? i would use that boat only in months where the water would be bearable to survive in personally..
Wow, the only thing he is missing is the hang glider! In fact, that might work out with a lightweight bike that can be re-assembled as a air glider..probably not the canoe.
So cool! We love how, aside from commuting, the Brompton has so many other interesting adventurous applications due to it's compact size and incredible versatility.
bromptonbicycle - yes, and I love those packrafts. Best in water with some current. Very hard to paddle against the wind on a big lake though. The whole pack (boat, pumpsack, paddle) weighs only about 5 kg. Kan easyly load a full size trekking backpack in the front. People load their mountainbikes onto them as well. A brommie and a backpack should fit without a problem. Have not tried that yet, my brommie is on the way.
Hey, I really liked your video on "A bike commute you won't believe" actually explaining Folding Bike on Boat ( Posted on May 8, 2018 ), so much so I want to share it with my audience on my blog. Just asking for formal permission to embed this video on my blog and use a handful of screenshots ( 1-2 ) from this video further explaining it in text. This will bring you more traffic on your channel and add value to my blog audience. Waiting for a positive reply, Regards Amit Abhishek
Hello Tom, Have you consider an small electric motor to assist you on the boat? . Sounds very interesting and also add some weight :( , but now days we could find powerful tiny e_motors..., Please let me know what do you think and keep it up! I really like your way of thinking. Cheers!
An Alpacka Raft packraft weighs five pounds and rolls up tiny and will bungee on a bike rack, because like the bicycle, the best boat is the one you have on you! Alpacka Rafts created Bike Rafting exploration and adventures using full frame off road bicycles, with the Brompton it's even smaller!
I care about ur safety man! I love bicycles and boats and I had the same problem as you and always wanted to find a foldable solution, but A 50 dollar commercial inflatable dinghy would be for sure safer and even lighter.
What dinghy costs $50? I’ve built boats similar to this that I’ve spend multiple nights on and traveled far distances in. Good lightweight homemade boats can be quite robust.
This would be cool to do around Southeast Asia to get to some nearby islands near the shore like in Southern Thailand for example. But I would never do this in the Hudson river with all of that gunk and all of the decomposing dead bodies with concrete shoes in that river. 🤣
Share this video with a friend who lives in NYC!
Even his boat folds.
It's so _Bromptonesque_ 🚴🏻🚣🏻
Cannot believe someone would give this thumbs down. Tom, kudos to you and your pioneering spirit!
This is amazing! Just gets me so excited to see people carve out moments of joy like this throughout the day. Thanks Tom + Brompton for sharing.
Love it. A commute that you actually look forward to.
This is brilliant! The most adventurous way to get to work that I have seen!

Really cool - inspiring creativity!
This is a really awesome commute! And that boat looks great!
We were pretty blown away by this as well Lars. Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice.... Great way to start your day.
What a great video, and an awesome commute, thanks for sharing.
It's awesome!
You are already realizing my future dream.
This is just awesome!!! I had to share this with co-workers!!

Thank you so much!!
This is amazing and inspirational

www.woodenwidget.com/fliptail.htm
The boat is the Fliptail by WoodenWidget. Plans are for sail for three different sizes. I plan to build the 7-foot version.
Beautiful
That's friggin impressive!
INSANE! This is awesome.
This is really cool. That mucky mud he had to squelch through though to get into his boat ... I wonder how he gets the mud off his shoes.
He brings boots and changes into shoes
Washes them in the river?
@@oliverford4964 😀
Excellent :) I love the creativity in getting to work :D
Incredible! Love it.
FANTASTIC !

Very inspirational...
Innovator mind, great invention
dude knows how to live. chapeau.
Pretty awesome !
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that:)
This is superb.👌🏿
wow, I hope I could try that someday.
I know I could find this information elsewhere, but what do you do about rust prevention on the bicycle with these daily trips in the boat?

Epic.
Next level of thinking
Very inspiring 😁😊
Bromptons and packrafts (Alpacka) make a nice pair as well! Will fit in a trekking backpack that goes onto the rack.
So cool! We love how, aside from commuting, the Brompton has so many other interesting adventurous applications due to it's compact size and incredible versatility.
Do you use a Packraft yourself?

Ever think of adding a motor to ur bike?
Great story by the way!!
Boat parking has to be tricky in most places.
Dude really thinking out of the box
Looks amazing man. How do you deal with the mud? You looked pretty clean when you got to the office

Wow !
Where can I get the plans for boat?
Amazing....
Genius design for the boat...if Brompton designed a folding boat ha
No rusting issues with the Brompton ?
Everyday vacations
I was with the idea right up to the sloshing through the mud... yeah, nah.
Are plans available for the boat? I have 150 hours....
The plans are available on woodenwidget.com. This is the fliptail 6, the smallest variant of the fliptail.

My LA River commute solved.

okay, but, hear me out: Remote work. For everyone who can. Freeing up apartments for people who can't so they can all just walk.
Its all fun and games until you sink
Flapdoodle would be a more sea worthy boat. Stay safe. intheboatshed.net/2007/11/24/the-flapdoodle-dinghy/
