I love using that trick to cycle between a minor, a minor, c, and g….. I also use the similar principle of instead of doing a full bar chord, leaving the B and E high strings open to create a richer sound, and keeping those high notes stationary, for example, “no excuses” by Alice In Chains, in fact, Alice In Chains is who inspired me to do a lot of my cords like that, basically just doing a partial bar record while leaving the bottom string open, same principle

The most simple chords are the most wonderful, the natural scale is the mother scale on which all scales and chords are built upon. Most composers use the natural scale to compose.

You're welcome Rafal! TAB is counter-intuitive. The top line represents the skinny E string. I didn't invent TAB so I can't take the credit or blame! But once you get past that, it's an incredibly direct way to communicate a wealth of information. TAB is counter-intuitive. The top line represents the skinny E string. @Song Bike - jkehew1 I don't think this is counter-intuitive: when you look down at your own hand and fretboard, visually the fat low E is on the bottom of the arrangement and the higher strings are above it. It's easier to translate a 2d bottom low to hand positioning than it would be a 2d top low configuration, at least for me. Viewing a 3rd person video like this is the opposite, but I'd rather tabs apply to my own playing than the viewing of someone else's

At first I thought you were doing it wrong, until I realized that you had the chords notated on the screen upside down. Instead of having them from Top to bottom E A D G B E, you have the E B G D A E. That threw me off for a few seconds.

Well sort of. He doesn't know the names of chords, just plays by what sounds right. Knows the basics but that's it. Once you figure out adding and taking away it's basically " does that work or not?". In fact a turn around might not fit, but if the one after that one does, you are back in business. No rules. Too much of what you expect sounds a bit too obvious. Don't forget Noel steals most things, but then again so did Zeppelin.

Yeah, I noticed this when I learned "How I Wish You Were Here". It threw me for a bit, as I couldn't figure out WHY it worked, but eventually I just accepted it and carried on. Now I use this, and similar tricks, in a lot of my acoustic playing - especially with 12-string.

Nice lesson, thank You, It would help me if this tab notation was shown the same string order as guitar, E1 on bottom :)
Charming chap! Thx. :)

What is an Asus4 called when you add the pinky on the high E string? I'm guessing would still just be called Asus4
Great question, RMA! It would be called A7sus4 because the new note on the high is string is G, the flatted seventh note of an A major scale. It's a very cool chord, especially played in this sequence: A7sus4 to A7 to D. At first I thought you were doing it wrong, until I realized that you had the chords notated on the screen upside down. Instead of having them from Top to bottom E A D G B E, you have the E B G D A E. That threw me off for a few seconds.

Hi, I'm so sorry. I was watching videos about tiny v12 motors, hence "no way". Meant you no disrespect sir. Happy New Year.
Noel Gallagher nicked that trick for Wonderwall I think.

You’d have bought a real Martin, made in the USA.
Hi Jamie, thanks for your interest in my guitar! It's so flattering to know people really truly watch my videos. I'm sure you wouldn't mind a response to your comment. 1) people make music all over the world with the resources they have, so listen more and judge less. 2) my Martin was made in Nazareth, PA in 1990. 3) I've played guitar since 1985 and taught guitar full-time since 1992. My attitude is that I always have plenty to learn, but c'mon man you sound kinda ignorant.
