Om! Sabbe Satta Bhavantu Sukhi Tata! May all beings be happy! The Dhammapada says, " Even an evil doer feels happy before their negative action bears fruition. However when the evil ripens they will have a bountiful harvest of evil results."Thank you for this teaching on Right mindfulness and Right meditation. Peace & Joy.

I sat my first Vipassana course this past January. Now I’m planning on my second. I remember meeting a few folks. One gentleman was sitting his sixth course, another had been managing for 5 months, and another still had been living on site for about two years.
I’ve been searching for this kind of experience for a long time, but also afraid of the change it might bring.
I remember being overwhelmed on day 10 when noble silence ended. The joyful voices of the fellow meditators was at first a relief and then, eventually, overwhelmed I sought solace in my quiet room longing for the peace of the past 9 days. .
Returning to the the city where I live, a city I love, I was touched by how out of place I felt. That feeling of belonging had been replaced with a cacophonous chorus of noise and energy that did not jive with the buzz I had lived with for 10 days.
I remember the words of S Goenka, take care of your practice do not let others dissuade you. Sadly, it was the first lesson I ignored.
Now, as I plan to attend my second retreat I can’t help but wonder. Will I want to stay indefinitely? Could I. I don’t know but I am envious of those that can and do.
    Thanks for sharing your interview.

I know exactly what you are talking about and I had a similar experience when I came back. 4-6 weeks after I returned from my first 10-day course I felt some inner sadness and started missing the peaceful environment of the retreat. It felt as if I had gained something during the retreat that was now flowing like sand through my hands and fingers. I have come to the understanding that the difficult part is not to "make it" through the course but to actually apply it in the "real" world with all the stress, noise, ambitions,... I was not able to keep up the 2h maintenance practice every day, but returning for my second 10-day retreat next week, so I am very excited.

@@perseus378 How was your second sit? I did my first retreat the week before Memorial day. I almost left twice but am so glad I stayed. I've been home 16 days and have 25 hours of meditation done out of 32 hrs. I make sure to do at least an hour a day but most days I do 2. As long as I get up by 6 i'm good. Be happy!

I have been thinking the same thing Robert.. Just got back from my 2nd sit, my 1st was about 8 months ago. Since my first 10 day course I have been sitting diligently 2 hours a day (if not more). I think eventually I will serve-serve-sit for a couple months if not a year or more. Peace and Metta

Great interview. The parallel of learning a new language (at one point you even start dreaming in the new language) is beautiful!! That hit home. Keep up the great work! /\ thank you

Sick interview! I met him at Jesup. I remember him with long hair and beard. I barely recognized him with his fresh cut. Tell him I said hi.

Thank you for such a great interview. Such useful questions and inspired answers. I did my first 10 day sit in October in Japan and it was (and still is) life changing. Would love to go again somewhere in the US next time.

He's so skinny which says that he's spending a lot of time at meditation center eating two meal a day. Cannot learn much in 10 days retreat you don't even scratch the surface of either Anapanasati or Vipassana meditation. Minimum 6 weeks but 3 months is better to learn Anapanasati & Vipassana meditation to practice on your own. He's following the right path.
