I'm 32 and about to join a gym in a couple weeks. Thanks for the post man. My wife and I are going to join together and I'm really excited to get back into a combat sport. It's been 13 years and a lot of life has happened in that time but it's time to step out of my comfort zone again and start to learn something completely new to me.
I started Muay Thai at 40. I'm never going to be a Lumpinee champion but I have fun, it helps me stay in shape, it helps me with self confidence. I agree with the above video! Find a gym and train, however old you are.
Started at 36, body hurts and recovery is not that easy, but the level of physical shape AND love of my body is like never before. Also, I really became a better person: calmer, more optimistic and courageous.
🎉 Same story, the day after kills me and I don't even get to fully recover before going back again, but MAN do I feel strong and fast, physically and mentally. 🎉🎉❤❤❤
I started training in Muay Thai after I turned 30 with no prior experience in martial arts. Probably one of the better decisions I made in my life so far.
I'm 32 now, and have been wanting to get back into something for years now. I was in boxing and taekwondo from 10-19 off and on but when I was 20 I broke my back bridge jumping and ended up in a wheelchair for 2 years. I've been able to walk for sometime and have just been nervous to get back into something. I want to get into Mauy thai to learn my limits. Figure out what I can and cant do if someone were to attack me or I had to defend my family. I have my carry permit but I dont want an altercation to go that far if I know I can prevent it another way. I'm going to join a gym with my wife the start of next month and I'm really looking forward to it. I found this video at the right time because I've had my concerns about my age and also my back but I found a great gym that works with beginners because even though I have a fair amount of experience in combat sports it's been a lot longer then I realized and with my back I wanted to make sure I was in a safe gym and not full of meat heads that'll put me back in a chair because they cant control their temper/ego. I'm super stoked for this new journey and mauy thai is the avenue for my wife and I!
I started at 24 and my coach said I was ready. Fast fwd 5 years later I did some boxing training in between. So I learned to slip punches pretty well and counter with my hands. When I hit 29 and went to my gym again i was tearing it up against everyone and gained respect from the different fighters. The fact that I'm so good at this came as a shock to me because of the ring rust effect but I learned to relax and let my hands go more. Just stay in a flow state of mind to deal with an experienced guy's pressure. Normally I deal with their pressure then I slowly take away their tools and break them down. This is hard sparring and we didn't use headgear either. I'm not saying I'm special but this Kickboxing thing is beautiful! It teaches you a lot about yourself.
Im 26 and just started muay thai. It was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. Last week a new guy joined our gym, he is 41 and hes super excited. If you are scared because you think you will embarrass yourself, that wont happen. Muay thai people are the most respectful and friendly people I ever met in my life. They will most probably cheer you up and you will find new friends among them. So whatever your age is, if you are not sure.. Give it a try! If you dont like it, fine but dont miss the opportunity to try! I finally found my passion after such a long time and maybe you will too. Very good video.
I took up boxing for the first time at 28, best decision i made. in my early 30s now, waiting for the pandemic to end so i can take up more martial arts, Muay Thai was on that list.
I took it when I was a teenager and loved it. But I got in trouble and my parents stopped paying for that. I then had a long career as an alcoholic…and after 20 years drowning in a bottle, I am one year sober and my fiance bought me 3 months at a Muai Thai gym. I start in a few days, after just turning 40, but I am nervous about my age. I appreciate this video and everyone’s reassurance in the comments. I can do this
37yrs boxed as youth took back up boxing few month bn training crazy had white coller fight 3 comming up i went to mauy thai gym n sparring nite boxin with me but went to beginers class loving it boxing gyms mostly diff atmoshere this muay thai there very respectfull welcoming is it the sport or my area am thinking great vid thanks
I'm 36 and do it. I started with it as something I wanted to scratch off of the ol bucket list. I went to a solid gym near me, and got started. That's the biggest thing people get hung up. Stop thinking about it and making all these barriers in your head. Just go, and fucking sign up. Anyways, I did my one fight, and couldn't see myself stopping. So, next month I'm on to taking my 4th. I feel fine. Just don't recover from the really hard workouts as fast. The linger you wait when you get older, the harder it will be.
Thanks for the video. I started training almost 12 months ago. I'm now 56 .I have 1-1 sessions 3/4 times a week and have recently begun group classes. I love it, fantastic training I've lost 7 kg in the past 4 months. You're only as old a you feel .
I am 28 and just started last week. Have gone to 3 classes so far, I am in shape and it is not easy. I’m not good at it but will continue to go to classes and hopefully improve over time.
I new a guy who was 50 years old started training and has had 3 novice mauythai fights and 2 armature he's won them all. But he's never trained in any martial art till now
I have started at 42... I am 49 I still training but it is tough. Forget about fight, risk of permanent damage is very high, but if your heart ask for it then go for it!!! In Thailand you can fight at any age.
38, just started taking private lessons and I'm getting more and more passionate about it every time! Definitely not going to fight professionally, but still it has a very big impact positively on my life.
Ok, you've convinced me. I turned 27 last month and felt like it was too late for muay thai. Never been able to touch my toes so didn't think i'd ever get flexible enough to do anything other than a very low kick. Pulling my finger out now, I start the gym next week and plan on starting Muay Thai in a couple of months when I have gained some weight!
30 year old part time entrepreneur planning to do Muay Thai combined with CrossFit to get that confidence and energy going up while also being agressive and taking risks in order to improve my business
You can start at any age. If you want to be a world champion than you have to start young when you're a teenager. It's extremely rare for someone to be a champion in any martial art if they start after 21. But being a world champion often times requires training 2-3x a day, 6-7 days a week, and dedicating your entire life to it. So it's not something you'll want anyway most likely. You can join to get in better shape, fight better, and keep yourself busy with a hobby.
Maybe if you want to be professional you need to start way before teenage years. Most professionals in any sport start in they early chidlhood. It might be hard for someone who started at teenage years especcially today when small children have lot of tools to becouse very good in all sports when they are still under 13. But as you said few actually want to become professional. You can just do and love it as a hobby and have other life also. Its bad idea not to start something only becouse you cannot becoume professional.
I think people have to be somewhat realistic with themselves, and figure out what it is that they want to achieve. Anything is possible however, if you're just starting muay thai at the age of 30 with zero experience, odds are your probly not gona be lumpinee champion not saying its impossible, but that would be very tough, but it doesnt have to be about that. muay thai just like other martial arts has so much more to offer than just road to glory. for me its about challenging myself, respect, discipline, focus and etc.
Most of compat sports practioners even if they start at they teenage years will not be champions or fighting professionally. Just a hobby anyway. so most likely you wont do any worse than most even if you start later. And on the other hand is you really are serious and it like your whole life you can be quite good in it even if you started it very late, better than someone who started it young but did not give so much time to it.
BRO!!! I started back in to training in a gym but started taking Muay Thai at the start of this year. My birthday is at the start of the year. I just turned 32. I love this shit...it's hard-core but I feel so much better.
lol to old at 30? for what to go pro? no your not to old. maybe if your 45 your to old for a pro career but to train in muay thai for any other reason your not to old ant any age. i started training at 53, got so good at it all the younger trainees were amazed and looked to me for instruction, many newcomers confused me for a coach.
I'm a 34 year old Muay Thai novice. I started at this age because I didn't start sooner. I wish I did but it's better late than never and lots of the other new people are my age or older. This isn't Thailand and you don't need to start at 9 to do Muay Thai.

That’s great. Glad to hear that.Stay strong!
31 and have fallen in love with Thai culture. Glad to know that it’s not too late to learn and get decent at this beautiful art.
Thank you, friend. I'm 27 and had trained in MMA only for a few months, a few years back, and was wondering if it was worth starting now
Are you planning on taking any fights? If so I'd love to hear your total journey!

I’m 63…
Very fit, strong and looking at my later years of not being weak and vulnerable.
I started training at 45. Age is just a number, if you think you're too old you're right, if you believe you're not too old you're right.
I started Muay Thai at 40. I'm never going to be a Lumpinee champion but I have fun, it helps me stay in shape, it helps me with self confidence. I agree with the above video! Find a gym and train, however old you are.
This is great! Keep up the amazing work and more important have fun!
Awesome. I started Muay Thai and I am 37. It's also good for me and the social anxiety.
I’ve been wanting to train since I was a teenager but couldn’t afford it. Now I’m 32, and got my 1st muay thai training yesterday.
Great , and how was it?
