Me too!! That’s what brought me here!
I have been addicted to china, silverware patterns, glassware, & tableclothes for 40 years & nothing can top planning & decorating a 6 place setting table. So I am so glad to find out I am not alone.
That's an interesting type of competition. I didn't know they had college professors for dining placement. Learn something new every day.
It's fun, it's pretty cut throat, and takes a lot of planing, and creativity. Been doing it for 6 years. I didn't win this year, but I had fun doing it. Mine was the LOTR.

I would pay good money for this type of creativity for a wedding, milestone birthday party, etc. I'm sure you enjoy doing this. It is spectacular 😍

My daughter got 4th place in this category at the state fair. She did a Narnia themed table and had so much fun!
A wonderful new thing to learn about this Thursday. Leaves me wanting to know more about Tablescaping.
Leaves me wondering why this is a "thing." I understand people who collect washing machines more than I understand this hobby.
This reminds me of my childhood where we set the table every night for dinner (my brother and I hated having to do it). Something that doesn't happen a lot these days unfortunately.
I remember when Gene Belcher was in a similar competition.

Working at convention hotels, you see a lot. If you can think of something to be competitive at, you can bet there's a convention for it.
So correct table setting underlies the whole judging process.

Competitive table setting … where no on eats at the table. I suppose similar things can be said about most other hobby or leisure activity, and they're not hurting anyone, but so much human time and effort applied toward what?!?!

I’m calling BS, on the judges’ opinion, that napkin should be turned around the other way! It’s the design of the contestant, and the napkin placement should be what they’ve decided it should be!
Do all the setting have to be European inspired. Different cultures set tables differently. Asain, anyone?

I guess this is great and all that. Why are you wasting so much time and money on stupid, when you could be helpful down town at the soup kitchen.Where the homeless including children are setting down at a table not as pretty just needing something to eat. Stuff like this just burns me up. So disconnected 🤦

Table manners I'm all for.
But the more I watch this, the more I'm loving Asian "tablescaping". All I 'THINK' they need are, the foods being served, your plate to eat and "TWO STICKS" a.k.a chopsticks. and maybe a cup for drinking. EVERYTHING else is USELESS.

All nice but the real people in this country the working people they dont have the money for this nonsense. Its down to basic survival now. Most of us out here in the real world, can't afford pretty unnecessary material items after they pay their rent or mortgages and purchase food and household items.
