  • I had an interesting time dealing with this simple Drain plug so I made a quick video.
Basically just connect a 1/2" ID hose to drain plug and push and turn the drain thing in a bit and turn counter clockwise then pull it out. I used pliers my garden tractor is an SLT1554 Cub Cadet think about 2007.
Hope it helps like and subscribe.

No tool required, it's just a pain in the bottom. Notice around 2:00 in the video how the drain valve is loose in the crank case. This has caused nightmares for me personally, as I have had to replace the drain valve twice. Involves removing the starter and getting a wrench in there at just the right angle to tighten everything down. Still leaks. Hopefully yours was just fine as-is.

Very helpful! Thank you. My quick drain is crammed between the engine and belly pan, and can barely see it, far less get my hands on it. Scotty

Scott Smith buy a few feet of aquarium hose for a couple bucks.....the hose that came with my mower wasn’t long enough to do the job right.

I’ll take an extended tube with a drain plug in it any day. I have all those quick changes on my Briggs & Stratton 20 hp Intek and I hate it!

I have a vacuum pump for oil, and I just pump it out through the dipstick hole. Much easier than this method.

that's about the stupidous set up I ever seen. looks like it's good for about a dozen oil changes before it snaps off. but then they say these tractors have a 10 year life anyways 😑

And unfortunately, on my Cub Cadet Volunteer the drain plug nonsense almost seems like a genius design compared with getting the @!¥£\*! oil filter out of there!!! Whoever designed that mess should be shot. It’s all so ridiculously stupid it almost feels like they intended to make it so difficult most people would just go to a dealer.
