Can't blame you, my Sylvanus pulls were entirely off until midgame (also somehow all of them too far to the left?). Definitely rusty, haven't played him in ages.
Louis Schuler I haven't seen his 2 reach 1k but I've seen his ult and 1 do over 1k each so he does have that potential with those 2. Most gods can't survive those 2 hits together
Sorry about that, didn't keep that in mind. I'll try, though I don't have that much time at the moment so sometimes I have to rush the editing a bit. :/ Will be back to normal in a month max!
Can you make a video on what your assassin main says about you? I love the series, but you never did a video on assassins. Also, I like how you're taking community feedback and turning them into videos. It is wonderful to know our opinions are being heard.
I feel like there is one class you left out, but I must be going crazy (too much Baron Samedi in conquest games I guess, or maybe seeing you play clash did it). Anyways, keep up the good work. I can't wait to see what you have to say on all the 5.13 changes.
The auras can also be thought of as mitigating one flat pen item per aura. While mages don't necessarily need to care as much (Magus op), the weakness of Titan's Bane and relative lack of flat pen for some physical gods can make shredding through a god's base prots a chore, let alone an aura's worth on top of that.
I still think that it would be nice to do a video for new players talking about why you NEED to finish your items before you buy new ones, because many players that come from other mobas are used to get multiple tier 1 or 2 items before finishing one, or maybe about when you should buy tier 2 items that stacks before a starter item or boots
Daniel Fraiz That's a good one. Too many new players in late game with full boots, tier 2 crit and tier 1 pen items. I've seen it so many times when playing as a smurf (I had to start new accounts, that's why I was "smurfing"
Ares OP and he could also make a video about how recommended items suck, because new players won't learn shit if they build the recommended, wind demon on susano, on loki, doom orb on anubis, and stuff, at least most popular items are much more reliable, but i don't know if that's made from what people buys or from what you usually buy
I love stone of binding, by far my favorite support item. Giving my whole team pent in a teamfight swings it my way most of the time. Combined with a nike for her passive and discordia, literally baron instakills
Ok so I get it the extra mitigation hp5 and mp5 huge in conquest, protection debuffs and that emperors armor with the tower buff/debuffs even the stone of fal with the penetration buff is huge on like kumba or ymir...so you do all this stuff and get stuck in a rut still because your team still is constantly loosing..agni support it is :)
Whenever I play the Gebbening I don't normally grab aura items instead building myself up as having a whole lot of health and cooldown cause boy oh boy do I save so many people by just throwing a snowball at them, and as of yet I haven't really gotten any complaints from my teammates about avoiding aura items
My Hel build includes all the defense aura items and lotus crown item that gives protections on heals. I love how enemies always build antiheal to counter me, but with a bonus 90 physical and magic protection (HEL'S light stance passive gives protections too), they aren't doing any dmg either. ESP now since % pen is so unpopular
Hi Duke, love your videos it really helped me with the steep learning curve of smite and mobas in general. You should do a video on how to approach your first ranked matches! I'm lvl 67 now after a few months and have 40 God's mastered, so I went and tried ranked conquest and people play radically differently. Thanks and keep it up!
I tend to go for more offensive auras on agressive guardians (Cerberus, Fafnir...), and more defensive ones on the more "supporty" guardians (Sylvanus, Khepri...) Allways take HW and Sov in Assault though.
I never thought of it like this since I always play with friends and dont build these items unless they ask for them. Im used to playing guardian a bit more selfish since i mainly play clash and joust.
Can you do a video about the benefits and drawbacks of each kind of CC? Slow, Roots, Cripples etc? And where Gem of Isolation falls in with that and maybe good times to use it.
Hey Duke, loved this one thx for the in dept infos on auras! Would you mind considering doign a video on building tanky item on assassin (or mage or hunter) as last item,or not, and who and how you can benefit from it? (for exemple a merc won't always need 5 damage item to one punch somebody and a tank item could save him after doing so) Thx for your amazing work!
One of the biggest things I struggle with in Smite is getting called out for my builds. It happens at least every other game and it's always me getting called out. So my question is how do you approach someone critiquing your build? When do you take their advice and when/how do you defend your build when you feel you are in the right? An example from a previous game I had: I was playing Geb support and built Sovereignty, my mid called me out and said I shouldn't have sov cuz it was trash. Instead of trying to argue with him I sold it and replaced it with something else, Midgardian Mail I think (since the enemy had an Artemis and Mercury). Later I built Magi's Cloak since I had the gold for it and the enemy team had more crowd control than my shield cleanse could handle, again I get called out for having it and so I sold it and bought something else. At this point I was way behind due to inefficient gold use and couldn't be effective in any team fight, causing further flaming from my team even though I took their advice. So when someone calls out your build, how do you respond? Do you listen to any of their advice? If they're right do you change it even though it would set you back on gold? If you feel they're wrong how do you know they're wrong and how do you deal with it?
Know youre items and know why you build them, for example, i am a very aggressive support who tends to lay down an enormous amoynt of cc, as well as body block and generally force the enemy team to look at me, so i build "selfish" because im a frontline support. If the way you play makes your build effective then build that way, and if anybodys telling you to sell your build (outside of super late game where you have endless goddamn gold) then you either have one of the like 3 actually pointless items, or theyre an ass
This just goes to show how little the difference is between wearing auras and not wearing them. You've just confirmed that I need to build selfishly since i play at lower ranks and that gold or below isn't going to be able to do enough damage to push them out of lane to keep me alive. Building selfish gives me more opportunity to stay alive and that's what counts at me levels.
Would you mind making a video about how to build support? I stopped playing smite a good while ago (the last core item I remember is sov/hw) bc life got hectic. I reinstalled and am now completely lost on as to what the f*ck to build 😅
How does mitigation works and base defense? I find anti intuitive that with 1000 phys damage and 40 defense you reduce it to 700, id love an explanation
Lululipes it can't be this way since it is 100/(100+x) z being the amount of protections so having no protections at all would do the original amount of damage it can't be amplified unless you have a negative amount of protections which is impossible to obtain.
Selfish support is the best support, I get the usual 40% CDR and spam away. My team doesn't need the extra protections when the enemy carries are dead.
Depends on the support, gods like geb cant strait up kill someone with all defence so aura is better, but with baccus you one hit people with all defense a little more cooldown is better
Thank you for making these videos. I’m new to the game (just at a week) and finally starting to get a basic understanding... any way you could make a video explaining the scoreboard and ranking at then end of the match... I’ve had one or two times when I was lucky enough to do the most kills and die the least, but am at the bottom of the scorecard. How exactly is the score calculated? Thank you
Tiarnán Hart I would go blessing tier 1 thebes then into boots unless you have enough your first back for full thebes. The extra from tier 1 thebes makes you decently tanky for the first couple levels
I generally get the reinforced ones so I get stacking protects which lasts long enough to get thebes and gives the movement speed earlier so you can get back to lane to earn xp and gold faster
Tiarnán Hart I'm talking about first item at start of the game. 1st tier gauntlet is light years better than 1st tier boots for support. It let's you play more agressive and set up your Hunter to either get an early kill, poke them out of lane or invade their camps. Playing support you're better off with +100 health over +6% Ms. Cause either way when you get back unless you got out pressured you should have enough to get full boots any ways
Tiarnán Hart same reason hunters get tier one devos or trans and assassin's tier one crusher first item. Tier one boots don't help at all for the first few levels since it just gives you +6% movement speed. You're better off starting your 2nd item and then going into boots on your first back and completely the item you started once boots are done
You don’t have to get all 3. Some characters make good selfish supports. Sylvanous for example, can get the two healing items instead of sovereignty heartward. Together they offer more survivalibility with his heal. But the most selfish build should at least have Thebes or a heartward sovereignty.
Too bad 9 out of 10 players that constantly choose to play only mage/hunter aren't skilled or strategical enough to kill the enemy team without hindering their own team...
1,2,3,4 is a bad set up. Taking your fingers off wasd is not good in anygame. Things like spacebar or mouse buttons naturally have fingers on them. He clearly uses the alternative keys than wasd but the rule stands. You dont want your fingers off your movement keys.
The passive aura of Pestilence, along with other anti-heal effects like Brawlers, applies to ALL TYPES of life gain including active and passive healing /lifesteal no matter the source (ability, passive, item, consumable, relic, fountain effect, natural HP5/MP5, etc). One exception that I can think of is Chronus ult, which isn't healing nor lifesteal but a reset/restore but 99% of the time an anti-heal effect is a HARD COUNTER to all of the restoration effects that can come into play which is why it's stupid AF to see players ignore these options so often.
How to win every arena game: Play a guardian and build full defense auras. You may ask, what if they other team does the same thing? Don't worry, the other team is three mages and two assassins.
well for one the general player base and the average level of skill is probably better. i play on xbox at reasonable elo and the people i get are generally horrible (even ones with 100+ days). just learn the controls and adapt to the skill gap and youre good.
I hate selfish building Tanks , the team works so much better with at least a few aura items, i've also loved your videos they help me build smarter and how to work around different comps
Christopher Meyers but I have to say, there are tanks that work much better with selfish items than with auras, kuzenbo for example, xing tian, even geb sometimes works better with selfish items, ymir, ymir performs much better with 40% CD than with auras, he helps way more with that, Bacchus, he needs some damage too
That is a good point , i mostly play guardians like Khepri who work well with aura items , there is nothing wrong with building a little selfish , but when you see your tank pick up bulwark first item it can be a little annoying
Christopher Meyers ye I mean there are selfish items that suck, I main supports, I never pick bulwark, why would I, if I want something selfish I pick gengis because it gives me cd which can be used to help my team, though physical items are different, because in 90% of the matches you'll have to build something against adcs, or breastplate, but selfish builds are trash. Remember in season 2,and I think in season 3 too, that the average build for tanks was, CD boots, breastplate, bulwark, Gaia, mystical and ethereal? Those good old times when tanks had just to do that, tank, they weren't supports. Now I don't think it's viable, unless you're like really ahead in the match, I've seen ares going pen boots, mystical, void stone, spear of the magus because of the huge stomp, but if not, done be selfish. And I'm not a big fan of aura items if you're losing, I feel like they make the support snowball to death
Yeah a lot of building depends on how far ahead or behind, if you are behind you can lean towards cheaper items that soak up dmg and allows you to front line more and get cc off so that can help mages and adc's who are behind , while being ahead lets gods like you said , Ares or Bacchus go dmg.
Nice advice but you are up against a player mentality that just will not quit. Since Season 5 started, the new player crop want kills over objectives, wins and teamwork. Some examples: forums.smitegame.com/showthread.php?179196-General-Advice-for-Bruiser-Guardians&p=922016 forums.smitegame.com/showthread.php?179297-Mana-for-everyone! (this guy posts the craziest stuff) More players are building damage Guardians and Warriors as all damage with no defense like every Warrior is a Jungler in any mode. PS - Any thoughts on this? www.reddit.com/r/Smite/comments/8xr2sh/im_liking_the_sound_of_this_already/
The nerfs to Titans bane and Obsidian shard indirectly increased the value of protection auras too. But then on the other hand if the enemy mage is a Baron magic def is pointless. Your gonna die even with capped prots :/
Not true by a longshot. Shoguns is nice *if* you're talking about the impact of an AA based god but it does very little for Ability based gods since they only sprinkle autos as part of the damage they deal. The core aura items that Duke mentions Sov, HW, & Thebes provide value to all of your allies be they AA, Ability, or hybrid type gods.
Hawk Hawkissimo I knew I should have clarified lol. If your team has two or three AA gods, it’s great. I tend to use warriors that benefit from basic attacks but I also like to use shogun on guardians to help my carry out. Other than that, it does a lot more for yourself as well
Again, just because you increase the AA spd for yourself and your allies doesn't mean that you're getting "more" as many gods are ability based and gain only minor improvements to damage burst by increasing attack spd. Yes, the other aspects of Shoguns are nice but as Duke's video shows the impact of mass damage mitigation from improving the protection values of all allies around you should not be underestimated, as well as the sustain aspects that come with Sov & HW over other choices - which can prove vital in making early successful pushes vs objectives to snowball a win! And while most are focused on conquest, I want to cry when I play assault mode and find that the majority of people fail to understand how much of an impact these choices will have in this mode.
Hawk Hawkissimo well why can’t you buy shogun AND protection auras for your team? I didn’t say those items were bad, but shoguns is nice because you get extra attack speed without sacrificing a defensive item plus you can stack an attack speed item on top of it and it’ll be better lol
You can, just like you can build att spd Khepri, but just because you *can* doesn't make it a *good* choice or suggest that it's "the best item in the game" which is word for word what you said above. You've added nothing to support this claim, and it's further devalued because you added the suggestion that this is particularly true for warriors even though it's silly to suggest that ALL warriors should prioritize att spd and/or that any other god is super OP once they gain an att spd buff - which would be the only means by which Shogun's could possibly be considered "THE BEST ITEM IN THE GAME". *Yawn* This topic is now boring so feel free to continue without me but my suggestion is to pretend that you never made that claim and just move along as well or your just going to sound more and more silly.
Love the auras information as a support main but slightly cringed at all the missed slyvanus pulls LOL
Can't blame you, my Sylvanus pulls were entirely off until midgame (also somehow all of them too far to the left?). Definitely rusty, haven't played him in ages.
DukeSloth Still better than my pulls xD
SUPPORT MAIN!!!
4:21 ‘You will not take 1000 damage in one ability ‘
Baron: Hold my beer
Forgettable Legends hold my brew*
Ftfy
Thanks for taking up my suggestion, Duke!
Sergio Fernandez Good idea buddy!
Are you my brother?
Thanks for this. Really needed an in dept video on tank items for builds especially aura.
'you wont take 1000 damage from 1 ability' clearly u haven't met the broken baron samedi who did 1.2k each with his 1 and 2
Khalid Amin Or try and beads out of his ult, fail because his ult is too long and then take 1000 damage
Raiden Litke EXACTLY
Louis Schuler he said that the 2 abilities do 1.2k damage "each". Meaning they still do 1k damage with a single ability
Louis Schuler I haven't seen his 2 reach 1k but I've seen his ult and 1 do over 1k each so he does have that potential with those 2. Most gods can't survive those 2 hits together
I'm with you but we do need some CDR items that are auras...
Could you show an image of an item every time you mention it pls? I have smite on another language and its kind of hard to follow what you are saying.
Sorry about that, didn't keep that in mind. I'll try, though I don't have that much time at the moment so sometimes I have to rush the editing a bit. :/ Will be back to normal in a month max!
Oh hes, i'd love that. English isn't my first language and i dk mostly the item in english
So we're all just going to ignore that wicked display of saving ass at 6:10 ?! As a support main, that was a nice save
Thank you :D
Can you make a video on what your assassin main says about you? I love the series, but you never did a video on assassins. Also, I like how you're taking community feedback and turning them into videos. It is wonderful to know our opinions are being heard.
Thank you! :) I did make an assassin one though: ua-cam.com/video/xPZpTWgT9f8/v-deo.html

The more you explained it, the more I believe the auras are less worthwhile than CDR.
Whenever I play the Gebbening I don't normally grab aura items instead building myself up as having a whole lot of health and cooldown cause boy oh boy do I save so many people by just throwing a snowball at them, and as of yet I haven't really gotten any complaints from my teammates about avoiding aura items

I love how enemies always build antiheal to counter me, but with a bonus 90 physical and magic protection (HEL'S light stance passive gives protections too), they aren't doing any dmg either. ESP now since % pen is so unpopular
And I get the new movespeed item that builds from bumbas mask for mobility so I can escape
My win rate with this hel build is way better than my win rate with just CDR and power

I never thought of it like this since I always play with friends and dont build these items unless they ask for them. Im used to playing guardian a bit more selfish since i mainly play clash and joust.
Shoguns late game is invaluable imo. Really tips the offensive scales. Defense aura items are best early so you get the protections most of the match.
Can you do a video about the benefits and drawbacks of each kind of CC? Slow, Roots, Cripples etc? And where Gem of Isolation falls in with that and maybe good times to use it.
I would like to see more auras on phys def items. Only 2 really for supp where there's heart pest void and shogun
Hey Duke, loved this one thx for the in dept infos on auras!
Would you mind considering doign a video on building tanky item on assassin (or mage or hunter) as last item,or not, and who and how you can benefit from it? (for exemple a merc won't always need 5 damage item to one punch somebody and a tank item could save him after doing so)

I hate the punishment for selling items
Ppppp
Same, i can't put auras because i need cooldown as a support. See ur game playing with 16 CD makes me cry
Great video, thanks for the work!! ... those pulls though :P
This just goes to show how little the difference is between wearing auras and not wearing them. Are there any scenarios in which other roles than support could consider building (or even rushing) aura's such as sov, heartward or thebes?
How does mitigation works and base defense? I find anti intuitive that with 1000 phys damage and 40 defense you reduce it to 700, id love an explanation
Eftkud12345 it's "Damage value" * (100/(100+Protections)). So 1000*(100/140)=714
Lululipes you can only do true damage at the max so there is no amplification if you have more pen than they have protections
Lululipes it can't be this way since it is 100/(100+x) z being the amount of protections so having no protections at all would do the original amount of damage it can't be amplified unless you have a negative amount of protections which is impossible to obtain.
I often go to cdr first, then I build my aura items, but yeah I have to build them more often
If you notice the opposing team building pen do you change these items out or hust build damage reduction and go from there?
Keep them most of the time. The auras will still benefit your teammates in either case.
You're vids are a great source of info! And you're awesome for responding! Thank you!
So if the whole team let say gets all the aura items while all being gaurds/tanks how much reduction you get if or before it caps?
BTW do Sovereighty and Heartward stack if 2+ on the team have them? I read elsewhere they do not but it seems here you say they do.
They won't stack together. So you can have two people have them but when they are together only one will buff
I am one of the guardian players who try to fit one or two fitting aura items. Sobek? Void and Pytha. Khepri? Sov and thebes. Do I do it right?
Being a support main and having my fav support get disgraced make me cry on the inside. Love the vid
Thank you
Aside blessings, Gauntlet of Thebes is always my second item after shoes for support and guardians and sometimes if I chose warrior outside conquest.

You're better off starting your 2nd item and then going into boots on your first back and completely the item you started once boots are done
Tiarnán Hart I forgot that tier one thebes also gives you +10 hp5 so it helps your substain and ability to tank stuff aimed at your carry
You don’t have to get all 3. Some characters make good selfish supports. Sylvanous for example, can get the two healing items instead of sovereignty heartward. Together they offer more survivalibility with his heal.
But the most selfish build should at least have Thebes or a heartward sovereignty.
I mean, if you want free armor, get an Ares. Else let the support build tank and body block what he can.
Teeds plays Baron in every video you release.
I play selfish support.
I support my team by killing the enemy.
Trent Mason don’t have to tank anything if everyone’s dead
Death is the best CC fam a lam
Too bad 9 out of 10 players that constantly choose to play only mage/hunter aren't skilled or strategical enough to kill the enemy team without hindering their own team...
That's what my buddy says whenever he plays a guardian. I"m seldom impressed.
Oh so you're an ares main
Was their team using a Scylla in jungle? I hope so, because that's spicy
Can you do a video on Shaman's ring's effect?
There should be a god that can pull an enemy out of their ultimate with their ultimate.
What the heck is up with your keybinds? a, w, r, and spacebar?
Jake Andrews it feels comfortable for him
1,2,3,4 is a bad set up. Taking your fingers off wasd is not good in anygame. Things like spacebar or mouse buttons naturally have fingers on them. He clearly uses the alternative keys than wasd but the rule stands. You dont want your fingers off your movement keys.
He uses ESDF to move around
That's weird man
Does pestilence work for life-steal?
The passive aura of Pestilence, along with other anti-heal effects like Brawlers, applies to ALL TYPES of life gain including active and passive healing /lifesteal no matter the source (ability, passive, item, consumable, relic, fountain effect, natural HP5/MP5, etc). Bless the friendly aura geb
Am I a weird support for almost always using sov heartward and thebes lol.
Cassandra Weatherwax nah you're an actual support
I only build sov and gt. I pick oni hunter over hwa.
How to win every arena game: Play a guardian and build full defense auras. You may ask, what if they other team does the same thing? Don't worry, the other team is three mages and two assassins.
So it's not a bad idea to sell sovereignty late game
Any tips for playing smite on pc? I just switched from ps4 and its a bit hard! Thanks!
What exactly do you need help with? I mean, it's the same game with different controls mostly :)
well for one the general player base and the average level of skill is probably better. i play on xbox at reasonable elo and the people i get are generally horrible (even ones with 100+ days).
just learn the controls and adapt to the skill gap and youre good.
LatinSpeedster Do you usually play pc? I switched for awhile (Xbox) and had no issues, but I'm pretty used to pc.
DukeSloth Im having problems with my keyboard, mainly activating my abilities, (normaly I hit the wrong ability in the middle of combat)
Memphoris No it's my first time on PC
I was just about to press that like button, but then i heard you say realm royal....
I play selfish support only but it works almost all the time so....
datdrakeduck he doesnt mention how those aura supports are background supports like khepri
Yea but the one's i build selfishly are Sylvanus, Ares, & Athena
I hate selfish building Tanks , the team works so much better with at least a few aura items, i've also loved your videos they help me build smarter and how to work around different
comps
Yeah a lot of building depends on how far ahead or behind, if you are behind you can lean towards cheaper items that soak up dmg and allows you to front line more and get cc off so that can help mages and adc's who are behind , while being ahead lets gods like you said , Ares or Bacchus go dmg.
selfish build tanks = solos
Nice advice but you are up against a player mentality that just will not quit. Since Season 5 started, the new player crop want kills over objectives, wins and teamwork. Some examples:

More players are building damage Guardians and Warriors as all damage with no defense like every Warrior is a Jungler in any mode.
PS - Any thoughts on this?

I am one of those supoports
Duke, who is the "you" of Paladins
The Mast of Paladins is KamiVs. The DukeSloth of Paladins is probably Jayflare.
Defense aura = tanky team
The nerfs to Titans bane and Obsidian shard indirectly increased the value of protection auras too.
But then on the other hand if the enemy mage is a Baron magic def is pointless. Your gonna die even with capped prots :/

aure are nice caz not getting one shoot is nice xD
❤
Support items suck now
The gameplay shows us once again how useless sylvanus is.
What the... Why is this sylvannus leveling his 1.
Shoguns is like the best item in the game. Especially if you play a warrior lol
*Yawn* This topic is now boring so feel free to continue without me but my suggestion is to pretend that you never made that claim and just move along as well or your just going to sound more and more silly.
noob tree lol
why you always put awful plays to the background ? is it you or someone else ? i really wonder
Nice bot gameplay
