Wow that bike brings back memories back in the early 80's when I was a teenager my Father had a 80 Z1-R just like that he had a weisco 1075 kit in it with CAMOTION cams, 29mm Mikuni smoothbore carbs with stacks, Dyna S ignition and a 4 into 1 Kerker hearder with a Karata Glide centrifical clutch. Man that bastard was a quick streetbike in it's day "thanks for the video it brought back a bunch of really old but good memories."
Nice to see such a nice resto on this bike. Very beautiful bikes IMO. I have an '80 Z1R that is "in progress." I was the second owner and had picked it up in mint condition in the mid 80's or so. Raced it around a lot with my friends. Went down a few times. Chased by the popo a few times (caught a couple times....oops). Sold it to a friend about 23 years ago because I was enjoying my GSXR1100 too much. Friend rode it home and parked in the garage. Took the carbs off and drained the fuel tank. Sat ever since. He finally sold it back to me recently. I put the carbs on, put gas in it, battery, started right up. So now working getting it road worthy (with an old ATP kit...hehe). One of these days...
Sweet Jesus that is a wonderful restoration, you do very nice work. I love my ZRX but there is something about the two valve, air cooled motors that just gets my blood flowing. Great collection of fine Kawasakis. I need to get a GPZ so my collection can be complete.
i have one Z1000 2010 model but the old school always impress me!I wish to had one Z1R like yours!!you done awesome job and i feel maximum respect for this generetion and this bikes!Greetings from Greece!!By the way the name of the song?
Very nice restoration of an iconic superbike. I've just picked up an '81 GPZ1100B1 and I'm debating whether or not to restore it. It's totally original apart from a 4 into 1. I like the patina but I also like an "as new" bike. Dcisions......
just beautiful,... would love to hear how to's on some of the resto, like whats the trick to getting the forks to look like that,... is it just elbow grease? sanding or what?
SWEET ! Just picked up a KZ 1000 CSR with only 31000 on it and it needs some TLC. Any tips on restoring the plastics. There not broken but looking their age...Any help I would appreciate.
I owned an 1980 Z1R, unfortunately it was stolen in 85', what was or is the difference between the U.S.A model and the Euro/ Asia Z1R-II models ???................ Great job on the restoration, probably better than new!?
