my brother GF used to drive one of these, every once in a while I and 2 other guys would lift up the car and turn it sideways so it would be parked into a parking spot. We once got 10 people to lift it and we walked it slowly around a building. that's a super light car.

Love Scott’s channel! And love to see cars 20 years old, or over 200K miles. But here in Canada, the cars get so rusted that, it’s almost impossible to last that long. Really want to see Scott to make a video showing how to rust proof cars!
@gwsheipang I’ve still seen Canadian cars with high mileage ( over 500,000 km ). Our old tenant is still driving her 2004 Matrix with 400,000 km still drive’s pretty much just like it did 19 years ago. It’s a Kamloops car, only a rust spot from a scrape on the rear door, no other places. Other than the front struts being blown that’s the only thing wrong with it. As long as you rinse salt off regularly & wax the paint so salt doesn’t stick the cars won’t rust.
Basically an overglorified civic... but its still a honda. Even though some of the cosmetic parts are getting hard to find, most of the mechanical parts are still abundant, even on the aftermarket side. If they're maintained properly, they'll probably outlast the owners.
I work traveling around US, usually I do 6k-7k miles per month, the company only has corollas and accords between 2002-2010, most of the cars have more than 400k miles, I started with an accord with 780k miles, so yeah, Scotty is right about Honda and Toyota
One of the top 2 varsity highschool cheerleaders/athletes in my school (in 93) had a soft purple one of these. Admired it's looks a lot. Her family is rich powerful good looks status etc. I got a used Mazda MX-3 bright purple next year (my parents did buy it). Her version of this car was super understated class. No spoiler. She always got the very best assigned parking spot front row (TX public schools charge $ for them). I had to wait for Jr/Sr year for similar parking status. Scotty, these were super not over. The top cars in 93. Great pick for a video.
I like those, but finding OEM parts is like finding a needle in a haystack because they don't make them anymore and they're not seen quite as often anymore.
Hmmmm; Scotty, you need to come to Montana!! In the mountains it’s cooler in the summer. BUT; in Billings or the plains, it can get hot. Here in Billings we went over 100° multiple times;10x or more, this last summer! Unusual yes, but It gets hot enough!!! AC is important here.
That steering knob on the Honda is silly excess. On my old Studebaker, with its 16 turns lock-to-lock, a steering knob for parallel parking was a near necessity.
80's and 90's Honda had bullet proof engines and transmissions. The 90's Honda chassis had better rust resistance but you cannot go wrong with all their models. As an owner of 88-91 Prelude's, 88 Concerto, 89-92 Accord, 93-96 Accord, 92-98 Honda, CR-X Del Sol and even the 88-91 CR-X and still own them all, I can say they all have their original engines and transmissions and many still on the original ECU, starter, alternator, distributor, power steering pump etc. They are a pleasure to drive, pleasure to do routine maintenance, saved me lots of break downs and angst compared to buying others. PS: They not only saved me lots of money from depreciation, they are actually making me money now that they are appreciating.
I went on a date back in the day with a gal that drove a Del Sol. It was all I could do to fit in the car, and once inside, there wasn't much we could do- no "elbow" room!
Scotty's looking better in this video. Earlier video he looked over worked or ill. Love seeing a true master share his accurate overview of cars based on knowledge. Wish there was even one politician or journalist this honest in our world now.
Montana does get hot in the summer. Missoula hit 90 degrees for 22 days in a row last summer. But it is a dry heat. It was so a dry last summer in Montana that almost a million acres burned.
There is a guy in our county car club in Northern NJ who swapped the 3.0 liter V6 from the 02 Acccord into the Del Sol & made it a center drive single seater. We all still called it a Del Slo. I preferred my 00 Prelude.
That little bucket brings back memories. I remember rolling around with my friends from high school in that little ride with the annoying exhaust. mmmRRRRRR! mmmmRRRRRRRR!
Hondas are like legos!! Most parts are interchangable. Civic, integra, delsol most parts are interchanable and like you said most thibgs are easy to reach
A Civic Del Sol with a hitch ? Sort of like buying the best TV only to watch infomercials. If towing is on a weekly basis, a small used truck or SUV made for the job would be ideal. Cheers to Scotty.
Hey Scotty! I wish Honda would go back to the drawing board and start thinking about and designing cars like the Honda Del Sol! No, I don't want a Civic Si or Type R, something cool and inexpensive!
I’m amazed at the longevity of the undercarriage of Japanese vehicles! Very important for the customers living in frigid climates with salt and stuff. I’m buying a Tundra soon Scotty though I’m not happy there limited to v6 turbo.
Even though it is not stated on the top of the engine, that one also has Honda's VTEC "variable valve timing and lift electronic control" A very sought after engine for sure!
This was my samba green del sol I took to Scotty. What’s special about this engine? Or was it just pioneering state of the art engine technology at the time?
I have 1990 Corolla. Drives very smooth without any vibration at higher speed. Original tranny and engine. Parts are dirt cheap and easy to replace. A lot of space under the hood to work on. No plastic cover on top of the hood.
Air conditioning is not a luxury item when you have had a stroke or have another medical issue, but for most people it still is. It amazes me that air still works for the most part after all this time.
My 97 del sol vtec was the first honda sportster. 160hp stock 1.6 hemi engine thats 100hp/cc aka Ferrari territory. with antisway bars and 4xabs disks. stick. will toast a honda civic r. Repairs in 25 yrs: distributor cap, battery, rotors, brakes, oil. one bearing went out. Only sold as standard. Very rare for a low mile nearly non-existent. It still will launch 0-60 in 5.5.
I almost bought one of these from an original owner…old lady who Garage kept it in pristine condition. My dumb a** didn’t get it and instead got a muscle car. Regret!
The Honda CR-X Del Sol was one of the first cars to change the design cue from the boxy design of decades before (70's and 80's) hence the largely negative views on curved cars. Also, the Honda CR-X Del Sol won Car of the year by Road and Track on a comparison with the Mazda Miata. The Honda CR-X Del Sol accelerated faster, had more storage, braked better, had better economy etc than the Mazda Miata. More than 30 years later the Mazda Miata acknowledged the Honda Del Sol by making the Miata RF which is essentially a Honda Del Sol.

I have a 95 with over 350,000 miles, rebuilt engine, transmission, clutch, etc... Runs strong!!
This year proved that it can get really hot in Montana.
Yes, the cop pulled me over for going 110 mi/hr on the freeway in my 1996 del sol. Those were the days...
I have an 80cc two stroke Honda scooter from '83 and it still purrs like a kitten.
This samba green sol here is mine. Where are you located? You have quite the collection!
Of all Japanese car brands, Honda is my favorite by far!
I haven't seen one of these in atleast 10 years. I always liked the design of them.
Montana does get hot in the summer. Missoula hit 90 degrees for 22 days in a row last summer. But it is a dry heat. It was so a dry last summer in Montana that almost a million acres burned.
My 93 Civic ex has that same motor. Nice
There is a guy in our county car club in Northern NJ who swapped the 3.0 liter V6 from the 02 Acccord into the Del Sol & made it a center drive single seater. We all still called it a Del Slo. I preferred my 00 Prelude.
Way to go Scotty! Ive been waiting a LONG time for you to review the del Sol!
All I buy and drive is old Hondas. Driving a 03 Element now. Easy car to work on.
I LOVED THIS CAR. My mother had one and I used to take it for a spin. Wanted it so much for myself!
I owned it's ancestor: A 1988 Standard Transmission Honda CRX. It was a fun little ride!
@LabRat Knatz Plus, as an added bonus, they turn on a dime and are very easy to park.
In the mid 90’s I was in Jr High and thought these cars were called De La Sol because I also listened to hip hop music back then.
Great clip Scotty👊🏻😎
A Civic Del Sol with a hitch ? Sort of like buying the best TV only to watch infomercials.
If towing is on a weekly basis, a small used truck or SUV made for the job would be ideal.
Cheers to Scotty.
I has a 93 and it was a fun ride. Had it for a long time. Only trouble was the roof gasket leaked when it rained but, otherwise, a great ride.
Hey Scotty! I wish Honda would go back to the drawing board and start thinking about and designing cars like the Honda Del Sol! No, I don't want a Civic Si or Type R, something cool and inexpensive!
I still love how excited Scotty gets we he finds a Japanese car with 200+ thousand miles.
Yup! I wish I can bring him my 01' accord with 300K+ miles.
@@huckleberrymulberry4764 I have almost the same exact car but in red a 93’ Si, it’s essentially one of the first “VTEC” engines Honda produced
I have 1990 Corolla. Drives very smooth without any vibration at higher speed. Original tranny and engine. Parts are dirt cheap and easy to replace. A lot of space under the hood to work on. No plastic cover on top of the hood.
Scott. That's orignial seat. =]
0:57 The cat. Hilarious. If I ever got a honda it would be the new trail 110.
Another spot on review, I love my del sol!!
1980s and 1990s Honda’s, and Toyota’s were legendary.
Air conditioning is not a luxury item when you have had a stroke or have another medical issue, but for most people it still is. It amazes me that air still works for the most part after all this time.
Why stroke?
My 97 del sol vtec was the first honda sportster. 160hp stock 1.6 hemi engine thats 100hp/cc aka Ferrari territory. with antisway bars and 4xabs disks. stick. will toast a honda civic r. Repairs in 25 yrs: distributor cap, battery, rotors, brakes, oil. one bearing went out. Only sold as standard. Very rare for a low mile nearly non-existent. It still will launch 0-60 in 5.5.
CRXs are one of my favorite hondas ever. del sol is a master piece
One of my favorites was the Mazda MX3. Loved that car back in the day.
I almost bought one of these from an original owner…old lady who Garage kept it in pristine condition. My dumb a** didn’t get it and instead got a muscle car. Regret!
I have an 92 Honda Accord it's like driving a piece of history.
I remember seeing those at a new car auto show in Boston back in '92. Can't believe it's been almost 30 friggin years.
My 1995 Civic has about 209K miles on it, and still runs great.
Great video Scotty! Please do a new one on your 94 Celica.
Wait, so this Honda has 386,000 klm on it?! WOW....😲 Love the green paint. 👍
First time I laid eyes on this Car was from Gran Turismo 2. Classic JDM Honda
Last year in Montana, it averaged 100 from June-September. It was a blistering summer. We get temps from -40 to 115 every year.
It gets THAT HOT in Montana?!
*And* that cold?!?!
Holy crap! I thought we had it rough here in Massachusetts!
@@davecrupel2817 Most winters are mild and it gets down to -15 or so. But most summers are 90-100 with 105 spikes. But some years we get the extremes. Every 10 years or so we get about 5 feet of snow. Mostly it's about 1-3 feet though. This year has been unusually warm. We did have a -10 spell for a few days though. Now it's 50 something outside. This last summer sucked!!! without A/C.
Love this man, truth and honesty, the man's a legend.
Most Underated 90d Honda & because of them getting slept on its gonna be so valuable rare and in high demand Seen it happen with hotrod the the desirable stuff gets to pricey they go to the next best and so on
Bought my first 2 months ago with 200k miles. 95 si z6 manual still in pretty great condition. Solid little car
Bring back the Del Sol, Honda!
(SAME BUILD QUALITY!)
scotty’s enthusiasm never ceases to amaze me
Using a Del Sol for towing should be a crime IMO. Nice car tho
