There is nothing like a 3.75 o-ring figure. Super7 stiff plastic was an attempt to hit nostalgia nerds, but a definite miss for me. I didn’t know they did any o-ring re-releases, so I’ll likely never find the storm shadow and snake eyes, but Amazon has the duke/commander and cobra troopers. As of this comment 2-2-24. Yea they’re a little pricey, but dude have you seen any NECA toy prices? lol. Absurd. I’ll be getting whatever o-ring figures I can find. This is beautiful!
I got 2 of the trooper packs on preorder. and 2 haslab skystrikers on order. I also got 2 sets of stormshadow/snake eyes. I wish we can get a 4 pack of the troopers though. Im excited to see what they reveal this coming Wednesday.
This version has already been reissued, in 1997 and 1998. Still waiting on 1985 Snake Eyes to be reissued unless the tooling is missing maybe it’s not possible.
My most anticipated video in a while! I am so happy o-rings are back and I backed the Skystriker as well. I thought this review was a great review and I agree with it. Although I love the ReAction Joes and I have wave 1 and 2....I want to be collecting more o-rings too. And I also want the experience be closer to Origins. Origins is the gold standard for giving collectors a wonderful experience with nostalgia based, kid-friendly figures...at retail.
Wow, I just got my set today! I haven't opened them yet and wanted to find a video to watch, a viola, UA-cam algorithm strikes with your video at perfect timing. They read my mind. Great review too. I also like the playability of these less articulated figures.
Nice Video Jay 👍🏾as an adult 6 inch collector this set definitely took me back and I have been buying O ring figures on the secondary market. I was expecting more single carded releases after the live stream. This is definitely the ultimate toy line and where it starts for me, I would just love to get more.
I'm backing the Striker but what I have seen QC wise with the cobra troopers and dull plastics, ehhh I reserve judgement whether I will indulge any further.
Dude, be carful storing the nunchucks in Storm Shadows Backpack bent like that with both handles in there. I did that, left it for a while and found them snapped. Thankfully I bought 2 sets, and the accessories are not on the cards, so if I really want to double-chuck I still have 3 left, but that nunchuck chain is very delicate... don't let the flexibility fool you.
You know the info card issue could be fixed pretty easily if they wanted to do it multi-language and still have them retain their original style. Have the full standard card back written in English, and provide a QR code where you can view it online in different languages. You can even have the alternative language info cards be available in high res files so international fans can download them and print them.
You're both right. Besides, English is the common language that most of the world learns anyway, so they probably want file cards in English too. Sometimes people can't see the forest through all the trees in the way!
I got mine in today but they both have fairly loose arms that I am sure will be spaghetti if a kid was to play with them for long. They do bring back memories, but the way Hasbro is handling this line I think I am just going to stick with their Ultimates Line of toon figures. Also, when did my hands get so big that 1:18 scale feels so tiny?
I really hope that they release single carded figures at retail. The Super7 stuff, I put in the turrents and driver seats of the vehicles. No need for articulation if all they are doing is sitting or standing.
If they did a big launch of a large amount of figures I feel it would work. Go in reverse order. Release a retail line of "Battle Corps" reissues and it'll probably pop off. Make them very cheap and affordable. That was a huge key to the old ones. Go to the grocery store and beg Mom or Dada for a reasonable little toy. Do some chores. It worked.
A lot of the tooling for O-ring Joes is missing or destroyed. Not possible to relaunch the whole line and doing in cheap in today’s world isn’t possible. Just look at the 97/98 and 2000 reissues, tons of tooling was simply gone even then.
The only thing I think you're not understanding with Hasbro is that they are now a greedy company that wants to exploit fans' love for a toyline. You mentioned that Cobra Trooper/Officer 2-pack being expensive.. I agree, so do many other fans that loved the o-ring line... But Hasbro is wanting to sell the o-ring figures constantly around $40 for 2, watch and see - if you think I'm lying. So while I love the o-ring line, Hasbro would have to do a few things to make it an absolute hit like they were in the 80s. 1. don't sell them for over $5.99 or $6.99 per figure. No one is going to consistently buy them at $20+ per figure. Hasbro always says its for the Fans.. well how about selling stuff a cheaper prices then? That would help the fans out greatly! At cheaper price points MORE figures would be sold. 2. stop with the old style necks, use the necks from the 85 and up o-ring line, even if you have to "redo" old molds, just do it! 3. make the vehicles for the o-ring line!!! - again, at reasonable prices!!! 4. make NEW vehicles and figures as well as bringing back old favorites. 5. bring back the old file cards! - ones with more character information instead of a few lines in several different languages! Hasbro is an American Company, print it in English, the fans from other countries will find ways to translate.. plus Hasbro Pulse doesnt really ship outside of America, right? so why bother with the different languages then, anyway? 6. bring back the mail-away special offers, that use the flagg points again. - cool stuff.. even if rare repaint, its ok. Just do it. 7. make playsets for them, even if just like a small scene.. like an alleyway or something kind of diorama-ish.. 8. make more factions, or more new figures/vehicles/playsets of existing factions. - like.. a Dreadnok swamp hideout.. or some new figures/vehicles/playsets for the oktober guard.. if done correctly, the relaunch of the o-ring line could be a massive success! But more than likely greed and laziness will overtake them and they will want to only make a few products and sell them at expensive prices. We are already seeing it with the classified figures, already repaints.. even the ONE vehicle they made (the RAM Cycle), instead of coming out with a different vehicle, they instead just repainted that in Tiger Force colors! - if they were smart they would at least try to hide their lazy plans a little.. and first make a new second vehicle.. THEN make the tiger force repaint on the RAM.. then make another new vehicle, then make the repaint of the 2nd vehicle.. while it would still be predicable, it wouldn't look AS bad as it does now.
May sound silly but I'm not opening mine and they are staying locked away in a drawer. I'm hoping the small investment today will pay off for my grandkids when they get older. I have plenty of loose vintage o-rings to display and play with. I'll update this post in 30 yrs with the results.
Dude we're definitely from the same school of thought. Gen Xers and Older millennials have a hunger for this line to be in stores and rereleased. I want what they never gave us. 3-4 pack builder sets of vintage bats, 86 vipers etc. By 2001 Hasbro sold almost 400,000,000 figures. Worldwide. I'm very active in the O ring Joe community on Instagram. We're all still around. We need this. Hasbro is sitting on a goldmine. Why can't someone like me or you or the countless Joe bros be on that board for ideas? Lol . final words. I emailed them in Feb of 2021. I said you guys should rerelease the original 16 figures from 82 with the 83 articulation for the 40th anniversary. They replied that's a great idea we love hearing from our fanbase. What? Lol fanbase. I'm a consumer and I I want to consume this line again!!
I want to have the option to have custom built o-ring figures... including choosing molds, colors, weapons, naming the figure and background information. C'mon now it's 2022. I finally have money for this, lol
You won’t get faithful 86 Vipers because the mold for the legs is destroyed/missing. That’s why the 97 and 2000s reissues had BAT legs. In 1997 they tried reissuing the OG 13 in the Stars and Stripes forever pack but because of missing and damaged tooling they couldn’t faithfully do it. Now unless they’re willing to spend the money to retool all those old figures I feel like any new O-ring line is going to be 97/98 and early 2000s all over again.
2 years late to this. I wish there were more O-Ring offerings. They could ship them "unassembled" so the only thing that has to be done is the mold. Instead of having to pay someone to assemble them.
So it looks like Habsro has already abandoned the o-ring line. Super 7 is supposed to put some out but not a lot of info has been released and I'm sure it will take a lifetime to get them to market.....if at all. I'm bummed.
I just can't get past the way the eyes are painted on these new o-ring figures, they look like an emoji of a pair of eyes rather than actual human eyes. The vintage figures had more life to them
Great review, Jay! I completely agree with everything you said. I love the new o-rings, but was disappointed in the price hike, especially considering I thought the $40 was already stretching the limits.. I’m curious, did you end up ordering 2 orders of the new Cobra trooper and soldier o-rings, or did you stick to 1 order due to the price hike?
@@GeekDadLife Me too. I thought they were going to be cheaper, as I thought the the $40 for the SS SE set was a special packaged set, but after the rose the price, and added Megahiss, which I bought, I was kind of maxed out. I guess the Cobra ground crew with the Skystriker will have to fill in for army builders.
I love these. I wish they announced some more figures and showed us some more digital renders. It’s a shame it’s very slow. I guess bricks and mortar retail don’t want this line? But that’s strange cos Walmart bought the Vintage line, and this replaces it. But then maybe Walmart didn’t like the sales for that line?
@@brushstroke3733 Duke, Cobra Commander snd Baroness are all announced. And not coming as you suggest. But nice ideas. I do want the other figures you mention.
I'm glad us older guys have these remakes, but for my son I want more of the modern style 3.75" figs... the O rings break after time and they just don't look the same in the eyes of my 7 year old.
Yeah, it’s funny how kids differ because my 7 year old prefers the o ring style to the modern ones 😂 I will say at least the retro card modern figs were like 13 bucks at Walmart
My question is okay. The "retro" Joes were like $15 a pop right? So two of those would be $30 for two. So how are these for such a mark-up?! That price and well Hasbro's treatment of the Retro line give me pause to enjoy this.
MoTU Origins has such a better price point. It's that merging of the old and new that helps why so many love about it too. Again, Mattel went all in with MoTU Origins. This? This doesn't feel like Hasbro is going all-in.
Yeah I’ve only got back into collecting cuz of Origins…It was the gateway to Masterverse, mega constux, minis all this MOTU stuff (except the CG ones)…GI Joe always been my 2nd favorite line..If I seen these O rings I’d definitely collect em(hate ordering online)….Want to get into classified but only seen 2 in store in my almost 3 years of Target hunts for MOTU…Dont want to start collecting em then piss myself off looking for em.
I could not agree more Jay! I love these and think they are amazing recreations but am super bummed that it the 40th anniversary year and I may get to only buy 4 or maybe 6 carded figs in 2022. I really hope they are starting slow and ramp it up to releasing 20+ a year in 2023
I would love to collect the new o-ring figures. But yeah, not in Europe or overpriced on EBay. Already to many types of Gi Joe nowadays. I have a lot of the classics. Then I started to get the Classified which are awesome imho. Then also ultimates came, which i skipped because they are so expensive but boy do they look great. I do collect the ReAction ones because they are really nice too. and now we get the o-rings which are even better. I think i will skip them for now, unless i see them for a fair price in UK or europe. But guess my wife won't enjoy me collecting 4 types of the same toyline.
While I prefer the GI Joe ReAction line and it's scaling with my other ReAction figures (Master of the Universe, Thundercats, Power Rangers, TMNT, Charlie Brown, Street Fighter, etc) I am so stoked O-Rings are being re-released for those with such fond memories of that form factor!
I can't believe they are charging as much for their O Ring figures as we do for the classified figures. It was also disappointing for the 40th ARAH stream that they had all those ARAH vehicles but no vehicle o ring releases. I think Hasbro should of took advantage of tax season and did a night raven Haslab They really only mentioned the USS Flagg by name. Hmmm
Really love the new o-ring GI Joe’s, but the price is an issue. Plus on top on the price you have to pay for shipping as well. But it still beats paying $200 a piece for vintage GI Joe’s.
So tired of not being able to get toys in department stores. Maybe it’s just Canada but we don’t get anything here and if we do, it’s a few pieces that get scooped up by scalpers right away. These companies have a license to print money here. Start filling the shelves!!
I’m confused by this relatively recent trend of these “new” retro figures. Isn’t the whole appeal to retro figures that they’re collectible and from your childhood? Buying a nearly exact replica of something you loved as a kid is like buying a reprint of a comic. It may look the same but is it really scratching that itch? Why not just hunt down the real thing?
Can you afford to buy carded originals to open? Even if you can, would you open them, or buy these and open them instead? Part of the joy of getting them is opening them, or saving them to open later. I wouldn't do that with a carded original, even if I had Bill Gates money.
@@brushstroke3733 I guess the appeal of vintage toys to me is just looking at them for nostalgia tickles and their value. If I wanted to look at them MOC, I’d leave them MOC. If I wanted to display them loose, I’d buy them loose. If I wanted to “play” with them I’d buy a new modern version.
Could Hasbro have done something similar to the joints as what Mattel did for the origins line? Recreate the same o-ring body molds but replace the joint system so that you don't have the rubber o-ring as a weak point or possibly a manufacturing hurdle?
GI JOE = O Ring Figure Anything else, while gives that nostalgic feeling at first glance, is just a money grab and isn't really a GI JOE. Anyone younger than 20-25 doesn't really know what it was like to play with a REAL GI JOE because they stopped making O Ring Figures at the turn of the century. So they all grew up playing with fakes thinking that's just how it was. Stiff Statues=More Money For Hasbro
I don’t mind the price for the oring figures but I also would love to see these in stores with playsets. Maybe they should do what Mattel did and make a new gi Joe cartoon similar to the old one to get kids interested.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I wish they weren't matte and were more shiny like the vintage figures. Also, the way they painted over the pins is kind of sloppy especially on the back of Storm Shadow's arms. Having said that though it beats the heck out of eBay prices on vintage figures so there is that.
I have alot of nostalgia for the O-rings, but it's hard to justify when I can have 6" for the same money. I'm also getting less interested in 100% faithful reproductions. I need something like more poseable MOTU or Classified's (non-shiny shinguard) design updates to generate interest.
For me, more points of articulation are better for posing and displaying, while fewer points of articulation makes for easier play. My personal favorites are the MOTU Origins because they're in the sweet spot between the two ends of spectrum. I like the 30 POA figures too, but find them inconvenient to play with because they are so bendy!
There is nothing like a 3.75 o-ring figure.
Super7 stiff plastic was an attempt to hit nostalgia nerds, but a definite miss for me.

It was also disappointing for the 40th ARAH stream that they had all those ARAH vehicles but no vehicle o ring releases. I think Hasbro should of took advantage of tax season and did a night raven Haslab They really only mentioned the USS Flagg by name. Hmmm
I really wanted more shown as well, hopefully they will in June as some have said.
Do they even have the molds for it?
Really love the new o-ring GI Joe’s, but the price is an issue. Plus on top on the price you have to pay for shipping as well. But it still beats paying $200 a piece for vintage GI Joe’s.
almost every gi joe can be had for about $20. only the rarest exceed that.
@@dark5cythe545 Maybe if you don't care about them being complete and in good condition.
@@TrevorToonArt agreed, I've never seen any joes in great condition and complete even the most common ones for $20
Give us a Viper 2 pack to knockdown the price of vintage Vipers
Nice vid
Thank you!
Try putting out a new cartoon and these joes will fly off the shelves
Hate to tell ya the modern plastic is junk my new snake eyes already has an elbow crack
What? oh no! I would have hoped they would have fixed that!
@@GeekDadLife he is still sealed also. Yeah they were supposed too but guess it didn't work..
Probably it is recycled plastic from landfills of 92-94 vintage Joes 🤭 I do have navy seal shipwreck though
So tired of not being able to get toys in department stores. Maybe it’s just Canada but we don’t get anything here and if we do, it’s a few pieces that get scooped up by scalpers right away. These companies have a license to print money here. Start filling the shelves!!
Yeah, that’s gotta be incredibly frustrating, hope it gets better for our friends in the north!
I remember back in the day (86 87)we could get a action figure for $1. Smh
For me its sharing them with my kids, when the old ones have gotten too brittle to stand up to heavy play.
Can you afford to buy carded originals to open? Even if you can, would you open them, or buy these and open them instead? Part of the joy of getting them is opening them, or saving them to open later. I wouldn't do that with a carded original, even if I had Bill Gates money.
@@GeekDadLife that’s a good point. Anytime I show my kids something from my childhood they just roll their eyes and ask if they can play Roblox. 🤦♂️
Anyone have an extra storm Shadow short sword for sale?? I need 1 for my vintage storm shadow
I do want an original one too. Have a repro though. Cheap but kinda melts.
Talking of O-Rings, I want Visionaries back without the O-Rings.
More! And cheaper, please!
Agree to both!
GI JOE = O Ring Figure
Anything else, while gives that nostalgic feeling at first glance, is just a money grab and isn't really a GI JOE. Anyone younger than 20-25 doesn't really know what it was like to play with a REAL GI JOE because they stopped making O Ring Figures at the turn of the century. So they all grew up playing with fakes thinking that's just how it was.
Stiff Statues=More Money For Hasbro
I like the Super 7 GI Joe sculpts. I think they should take those sculpts and make O-rings out of them. O-ring collectors already have the old toys.
I don’t mind the price for the oring figures but I also would love to see these in stores with playsets. Maybe they should do what Mattel did and make a new gi Joe cartoon similar to the old one to get kids interested.
I think they would be cheaper if they were in retail as well.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to look at the amts of figures being put our by Mattel and McFarlane and still tolerate Hasbro's trickle. Just can't.
Yeah, it definitely adds to the frustration for sure.
It's not the O-Rings that do not love you....its Hasbro.
I have a reissue optimus prime and it cant even stand
$20 per figure? Does anybody make toys for kids anymore?
You have a lot of brass, putting those weapons in their hands. Congratz!
I can't believe I'm saying this but I wish they weren't matte and were more shiny like the vintage figures. Also, the way they painted over the pins is kind of sloppy especially on the back of Storm Shadow's arms. Having said that though it beats the heck out of eBay prices on vintage figures so there is that.
the more everyone simps for this line, the more likely they will up the price.
🤭👍
Overpriced, using nostalgia to heavily ripp you off. It might run circles around super 7, but not around the 20 earlier versions in 4 inch.
I know, it’s a shame it’s so much.
As of late, you can always count on Hasbro to go full stupid, any chance they can get... SMH
