The first song is criticism of Japanese culture. The pressure to always be happy despite it being a country with one of the highest suicide rate. The part about the suicidal thoughts and then immediately followed by "be happy unless you want to attend your own funeral" is about Japanese society completely ignoring suicidal people, and more often than not tells them they better off dead than unhappy.
It can also be about the Japanese continuing to uphold the culture that contributes to those suicidal thoughts. Part of it is owed to the work culture, and if you don’t fall in line and sacrifice your personal life for your work, you will no longer have a job.
Also PS there made by Phineas and Ferb creators so that should give you some info on how funny it is

Ondine is a sea creature (called ondines, the play is named Ondine) and creatures of her kind need to have a human husband to obtain a soul and "keep them in check." If the husband is not happy, they'll die at the hands of their wives.
"The knight who jilted Ondine" That's Hans, the knight who Ondine loved in the play.
The lake references Ondine's homeland and culture.
So the song has a double meaning.

About Len being put in a maid costume in the third song... yeah, that's just how Len songs go. It's a well-known meme/trend that when he's put in a song- most likely singing it, in most cases- either one of two things will happen: the song will have him be sexualized or sexualizing someone/something else in some capacity (by appearance or stuff he says), or Len Fucking Dies. It's either Horny or Horrors, with little in-between.

But his interpretation is not wrong either. That's the thing about vocaloid songs. There's no "only THIS interpretation is the right one". And sure the song could just be memeing, but his interpretation can ALSO be right. And that's the beauty of vocaloid songs
Kagamine Rin and Len are mirror images of each other! So depending on the song you can interpret them as siblings, friends, lovers, even two sides of the same person! I love how you interpreted Maid Factor as a self-discovery story

Still waiting for him to listen to some more story oriented songs like Assassin Princess, Sand Planet or Seraphim on the ring, they all have awesome visuals AND are great songs, really recommend.
If it helps, Len and Rin are twins, or mirror images of one another, take your pick, but most default to twins. They frequently will play as lovers though in songs, but also sometimes siblings. There's actually a really fascinating song series from them about reincarnation and how cruel fate can be, The day I figured out all those songs were connected and not jsut separate stories, I was jsut astounded.

I think a very good way to find lighthearted songs is to go for the silly ones like teto territory, triple baka or po pi po
Here are some happy Vocaloid songs for you:
Sweet Magic - a song, basicly about a girl trying to win her crush's affections through sweets.
Childish War - a song about a brother and sister expressing their rivalry via a food fight.
Tell Your World - a song that's basicly about the idea of connecting and expressing yourself to the world through song.
Drop Pop Candy - It's a bit hard to figure out, but I think it's about trying to find ways to inject fun and new into days that feel like they've fallen into a rut.

Some older vocaloid songs took the stories as the Vocaloids had their own personalities and lives in the computer! And they helped the producers of people who owned the banks just cause it was fun.
So they'd write songs like Suki Daisuki and Electric Angel to have those sorts of visuals!
My first thought during the intro was "Let's see if those are actual happy songs, or if they messed with him". And than he anounced the first song would be the "Happines and Peace of Mind Committee"! xD

A song I'd highly recommend is Shoujo Rei by MikitoP, the song itself is absolutely amazing and to me perfect, but the story telling in it is fantastic and the story in it is really compelling. The instruments used also sound so good, it has acoustic guitar, steel pans and uses train and ocean noises, its just a divine song.

Awesome video as always! I love seeing you react to Vocaloid songs (though to start a happy list with the Happiness Committee, I'm so sorry...) To explain Suki, Daisuki: Rin (the girl) is literally a Vocaloid inside of the guy's computer. She does just want to convey her feelings but is so shy and awkward that it takes the whole song plus a few detours (like asking him to play games with her as a way to spending time with him). 💛

Nah i feel like that’s Kinoshita’s playing field. mitchie M is more known for how great they tune miku to sound realistic
This is the happiness and peace of mind committee is just one song in a series that tells a bunch of connected stories! It's not the first song in said series, so you are definitely missing a lot of points and story, but that's to be expected. Not many people know it's part of a series since this one song in particular blew up while the others didn't! It's really interesting and the creator of the song's actually wrote a novel version of the stories, but it's only in Japanese, I think. I could be wrong on that, but the point is, there's a whole series!
So, no clue if anyone but me remembers, but there used to be little horror story/rumors about several vocaloid songs a long time ago. The two i always think about are the writer "the disappearance of hatsune miku" not writing the song, and instead finding it in his downloads shortly after replacing his miku v2 bank with the v3 bank. The other is "electric angel" showing up in an email after the writer REFUSED to upgrade his Rin and Len banks to v4

I highly recommend the Song Daughter of evil, and it's part two that explains its story a lil more, Servant of evil, both songs are connected, and it has some animation videos of these songs separately, either way, both songs are really good!

I've said this once and I will say it again: You should listen to some Project Sekai songs! They're vocaloid songs, but covered by real people with vocaloids singing alongside them!
Some good ones (in my opinion) are:

- ID Smile (N25)

This! Though just to clarify, it's not just a few real voices mixed in; it's a lot. Like, rather than thinking of them as "vocaloid songs with a few real voices mixed in", it's closer to "real people singing vocaloid songs with some vocaloid voices mixed in (to varying results)". Also, many of the songs in Project Sekai has two versions: the Sekai version (the aforementioned "real people with some vocaloid") and the Virtual Singer version (typical vocaloid songs that has only vocaloid for the vocals).
And for those who don't know, Project Sekai is a rhythm game featuring vocaloids (Miku, Rin, Len, Luka, KAITO, and MEIKO) singing alongside real people. The game has five different groups, each representing different genres (though it's not strictly enforced):
- Leo/Need (L/N), a girl band doing primarily j-pop and rock songs
- MORE MORE JUMP! (MMJ), an idol group singing typical Japanese idol songs
- Vivid BAD SQUAD (VBS), a street music group performing, well, street music (usually EDMs)
- Wonderlands x Showtime (WxS), a theatre troupe usually performing quirky or theatrical songs
- Nightcord at 25:00 (N25, or 25ji for the Japanese version), an underground music group that sings songs touching on darker themes
You can check out songs from MMJ or WxS if you want happy vibes (though whether or not the lyrics are actually happy largely depends). If you want dark and depressing songs, check out ones from N25. L/N and VBS are largely mixed bags in terms of vibes, but do check them out anyways if their genres are up your alley.

I interrupted the last one as meaning like how some people might ignore others because internet addiction and miss things like a person confessing to them. Ik my interrogation is probably much different then the actual meaning.
Also the maid one being interrupted as figuring out their gender identity. Real helps me alot, because I'm bigender and struggled with accepting that myself.

There are a lot of amazing english covers of them though, if that ever becomes something you are interested in!
Btw, the Gero versions all have the same visual artist behind them. So while I like both the original and the new arangement, I'd recoment the Gero versions.
I love seeing you watch these and would love for you to see more series of songs that interconnect like the one with both rin and len in something of evil

MATHEW! I'VE BEEN MEANING TO GIVE YOU A RECOMMENDATION! kept forgetting tho lol Since you understand the appeal of vocoloids now, please react to TELETUBBIES THE MUSICAL (PARODY) by Nine Aetharia! All the singers are different vocoloids, the music is all original, the story is fascinating, and the art style is really cute! (Animatics rather than animation tho) It's just under 30 mins long, but the story is paced really well. PLEASE watch it, Nine Aetharia really hasn't gotten enough attention for this genuinely fantastic musical done entirely on their own!
