Damn you, I literally started brewing that shit like two days ago. Before even watching the vid my auto cards were clones unctus, aphetto, and some clones and kiora follower with some creature tutors, basalt, Kennan, and thrasios. The deck just plays itself. Lotus field is a card you should consider too
Oh and the two Malcolm trick cards that change creature type. And maskwood nexus. Narsets reversal and borne upon the wind with endurance so that if you pop off you can flash thassas. If they counter borne you can nurse's borne. You have repeat attempt power plus like 9 billion. And my creatures add mana like crazy so it's just a snowball
Maskwood nexus us actually worth in my opinion cuz off the power to be another untappable permanent that puts a creature into play for your intruder alarm.
Agatha soul cauldron so I can steal cool taps make Kinnan practically just win off my 3 activations you'll get a turn from untapping Grim 3 times a turn. But this is a weird ass list it's not gonna do this each time.
Don't think Kumena is gonna be cEDH viable anytime soon personally, but definitely got fed quite nicely with this set. I wanted to build a Kumena deck irl and had been sitting on a list for many months now. Was waiting on a cool art Kumena in the main set and I was disappointed until they released the Secret Lair. I now have to build it lol. On another note, I am very impressed with Hakbal, as a clones and extra turns list. Not cEDH either, but definitly is a wild and fun deck. Each merfolk explores for each Hakbal clone you have at the beginning of combat. Each Hakbal has an attack trigger. Mystic Sanctuary and Trade Routes + extra turn spells and we are cooking
YOOO it's awesome to see people rebrewing this commander again. Haven't seen it since the paradox engine days awesome to see some power creep going a spicy way
I get wanderwine prophets is a 6 drop but with deep root pilgrimage make it infinite turns kind of worth it? Also kioras follower and unctus dont go infinite. Follower says another
Exploring mid-range Zur merfolk myself. Allows for deeproot pilgramage ans intruder alarm from command zone. Probably not the most efficient build for zur, but still a unique alternative.
So glad this series is back. Think I would have taken this deck more towards Ian's strat, but that's just because I'm a RoL fanboy. Both really neat lists. Cal's list feels like "MerfolKinnan". I have an easy one for the both of you. Its kind of broad, but its something I think a ton of people want to see. Its something I think suffers from perception to an extent, but is also clearly worse than similar contemporaries. Many would say it needs the Winota, Kinnan or to a lesser extent, Shorikai treatment. IE: A commander that's straight up broken in how much it brings as an individual card. So I challenge you Cal, the 📺 *John Madden* 📺 of CEDH and you Ian, the 🐐 *Tom Brady* 🐐 of the format, to make the most powerful 🟡ORZHOV⚫ deck you can possibly make! Would also love to hear your thoughts on what a pushed Orzhov commander would look like. Bonus points if you both brew two decks each, one partner based and the other without partners because I already know its Tymna + Armix / Tevesh. The Orzhov Syndicate needs you both. Do the right thing. 🙏
35:18 Bentic Biomancer. I'm just a casual EDH player, I don't know if this combo is known in the cEDH world. Benthic Biomacer + 1 other creature you control + Wizard Class + Thassa's Oracle (in hand, or in library with 1+ card in hand). It can be a bit mana-intensive, but surely you guys can make it work. You are in green after all. With Benthic Biomancer and Wizard Class's third ability, you can draw your entire deck. Do note however that none of both abilities are "you may" abilities, so you need another creature to put a +1/+1 counter on another creature to stop drawing. Then win by playing Thassa's Oracle from your hand. During the draw-+1/+1 cycle, you can also draw Thassa's Oracle from your deck and discard another card frrom your hand, so you don't have to tutor that card per se.
This is definitely not a CEDH thing but this reminded me of one of my first EDH decks which was tribal merfolk with Ertai, the Corrupted as the commander. I'm guessing many people don't know what Ertai does, for a U and tapping, he can sacrifice a creature to counter a spell. I had a dumb combo with Lullmage Mentor & Intruder Alarm & another merfolk that allowed me to tap a creature for U. Anyways this janky pile could infinitly counter spells. Lullmage would make a merfolk token whenever a spell was countered and trigger alarm, untapping Ertai. It was so dumb.
Mothdust changeling is great because it doesnt require haste to do so. It taps itself. Its 1 mana, and it is a changeling. With intruder alarm this and pilgrimage, theres infinite merfolk. What doesnt go into account is mana... idk where to go with this. Maybe cryptolith rites maybe.
So couple suggestions: first is Invasion of Segovia. The front is obviously crap but Kumena can flip it easily enough and then you untap four creatures on your end step and give your non creature spells console which just so happens to tap your merfolk for you. Second, is Encroaching Mycosynth again. Blue has plenty of artifact tutors so this helps you find the Pilgrimage and/or Intruder Alarm.
I really like this card. I put Deeproot Pilgrimage in my mono-blue Emry, Lurker of the Loch Deck, I have played it as a casual commander for years and just recently started moving the deck into a cedh brew. when i first saw Deeproot Pilgrimage my thought was: it slots right into Emry. where I'm tapping a non-token merfolk like Emry to cast spells from my graveyard, hopefully an infinite amount of times, (ex: lotus petal), creating an infinite number of hexproof merfolk along the way sounds good 😄 this card, Deeproot Pilgrimage, with Intruder Alarm untaps Emry to continuously cast artifacts, so I'm a fan👌 (there is a number of other combos/ more synergy potential in Emry too, using this card, that I will be making videos about soon on another new channel of mine. If there is interest I can share details 👍)
No thrasios tymna build? Islandwalkers for card advantage? Reconnaissance mission/toski/kindred discovery to draw a ton of cards? Quicksilver fountain as a stax piece to turn on islandwalk? I love lullmage/intruder alarm as a way to infinitely counter everyones spells and lock them out of the game.
I feel like I am smoking crack, but doesn't Mystic Reflection + Orchish Bowmaster = infinite pings and bowmasters? Cast bowmaster, respond to the ETB by casting Refelction, and whenever you amas it becomes a copy of Orcish which then triggers another etb?
Not if they really cared about winning. This is pretty obv not a high tier cedh deck but could it be viable? Sure. I guess depending on your definition of viable.

You can justify playing intruder alarm early sometimes cuz if they untapped your shit then they just give you an extra turn half the time. It's nasty
Hullbrraker horror and tidespout in the deck cuz fuck it im on kinnan

Surely it's called Zurfolk
@@matticus_p626 you nailed it, literally the name I have in moxfield lol
Please keep us updated on the refining of the deck. I'm excited to see a fully focused

Darting Merfolk is a competitive combo piece that you can almost always bounce back to your hand
Love seeing you guys creativity in your brewing!!! Keep it up fellas!!!

They need a Sultai Merfolk 'tapping' Commander. Access to Black makes this deck so much better.
An upgraded 4 mana Sultai Kumena would be nice.
ive wanted that for years!
I’m loving the new Brewer’s Choice episodes!! Keep up the great work!!

What event is in Columbus?

no i think it's only the "next time" so only one more bowmaster for you frend
I've been playing merfolk in cedh, and let me tell you. These fish are viable
A list would be amazing
How does kioras follower and unctus go infinite?
It doesn't, because Kiora's Follower says "Untap ANOTHER target permanent."
roaming throne could be an amazing addition as it doubles triggers
Would either of you take this deck to a tournament?
Obviously no.
Not if they really cared about winning.
This is pretty obv not a high tier cedh deck but could it be viable? Sure. I guess depending on your definition of viable.
Fuiyohhhh
they them huh
Haiyaaaa
pronouns are so important while talking magic...
We agree! Glad you think so too! 🙂
Thought about it as well 😆
Hey call 30 sucks, 31 alittle bit less, 32 is fine, 33 is meh, 34 starts the "im almost 40 fear" 🥲
