This cutscene right here to me is what makes Double the best Maverick henchmen of the entire X games, even more so than Vile. I love Vile and all, but even he didn't have this type of violence and psychopathic nature to him. He lived for the thrill of the kill and it's what makes such a memorable Maverick. It's a shame they never brought him back for another game because he clearly had more untapped potential than even Vile and Dynamo did. I understand he couldn't do the same disguise again because they clearly would have recognized him, but he could have been rebuilt into something else entirely and have his true form be something else as well, maybe even more sinister and dark than before.
Vile definitely lived for the hunt, he was imprisoned because of his brutality and constant collateral damage before Sigma took over. Plus Vile has the added benefit of returning in two other games, so they can do even more with him. While No one is gonna be more Iconic than Vile, Double is easily the runner-up, and considering he only got a fraction of the screentime Vile got, that's high praise right there.
The fact that double transformed already in this scene, however when you reach the final weapon. Double was waiting for you in his innocent form. That’s pretty messed up… 😂
I wonder how they would do Double’s transformation in a modern era. Double was such a great villain for the series, especially with how he KNEW his weakness and so made it harder to beat him by exploiting it.
This honestly surprised me when I first saw it, I saw his true form on the box art but after reading his bio in the museum I thought this would just be some sort of extra boss. But nope, iris gets a set of knight armor and double just flat out double crosses you.
