Lots of different things people said about the script and all i can find is the scenes olivia cut which were of her and harry talking about victory mostly slower scenes but add a lot of context that made the movie better. same with the whole she wakes up and reads her obituary in the paper. there's no info given on that existing in the script to.

    Did they ever explain Peg being pregnant? Was the real-world Peg pregnant? If yes, do they just throw out the real-world baby and give the mother a SIM baby in Victory? And do they just simulate giving birth for the woman?

    The whole "die in the simulation, die for real" thing is the most confusing aspect of this. Why is that even a feature? Wouldn't it make more sense for death NOT to be a factor in an idealized fantasy prison? Make it LITERALLY impossible for the women to escape, even via suicide? Or, y'know, murder their husbands? That feels like a pretty big oversight.

    The part about him dying in Victory equating to him dying in the real world is an interesting bit. I didn't even catch that plot hole when I watched the movie myself. However, I think the concept of dying in the simulation which causes you to die in the real world, in this movie reminds me of what happened in the first season of Sword Art Online. Essentially, the use of nerve gear (think really fancy and advanced VR headset) allowed them to fully dive into the games and move around seamlessly (like in this movie). However, they end up trapped in the game and if you died in the game you died irl. This was possible because (and don't quote me on this it's been a while since I've watched SAO) the nerve gear was able to connect to their nervous system as it put them in a temporary paralysis to keep their in-game movements from happening outside which could cause injury. So when they died in the game the gear essentially fried their brain resulting in their death in the real world. So long story short, I wonder if that's what they were playing at here but because we were rounding up to the end of the movie they just sort of glossed over how their death in Victory would translate into the real world. But using this logic, you don't have to replicate what killed them in the simulaiton. So even though the dude gets stabbed in the simulation, his physical wounds don't necessarily have to mimic that. He's just dead.

    • @MyLittlecat1
      @MyLittlecat1 Рік тому +23

      The nerve gear would shock them to death basically. The electricity wasn't properly adjusted so the headset would kill them through static.

      YESSSS! THANK YOU FELLOW SAO WATCHER! ALSO, it makes sense for u to die in real life if u die in VR. It's like when u die in ur dreams ur likely to die in ur sleep. I thought the most interesting thing was about how jack actually went out to work everyday after starting Victory in order to afford the virtual lifestyle he made for Alice vs how he forcefully took her away from her life and career.
    In a way, he is right. They were a happier couple in Victory because they had time for each other. (Of course obviously it’s wrong that he wasn’t ok with being a house husband and wanted her to be relegated to being a housewife instead even though she has the bigger economic potential).
    I would’ve enjoyed a movie where this conflict is presented early in the movie and the rest of the movie is just them assessing their relationship and the roles they’re willing to take / how both characters compromise to keep the marriage. Instead of a movie about dumb incel men, it would’ve been more interesting as a relationship study.

    • @mikemcdonald1999
      @mikemcdonald1999 Рік тому +4

      I think the scenario presented in the movie (the first 3/4's anyway) works as a mystery thriller. Victory already exists and it's a going concern with the men presumably being the willing part of the participation and either stifling their wives or living out this fantasy whole cloth.
      I would have liked to see the lead up to how some of the people got there. Did they drug their spouses and slap the devices on them? Are the husbands all incel losers working retail to afford 8 hours of virtual "bliss"?!

      Pierrot Pierrot, I think I don't understand what you mean when you say "in a way, he was right because they are a happier couple in Victory". How long has their new life been going on before she started breaking down ? To me it looks like they are "vacation happy", a feeling that you enjoy but that it is not meant to last. I think she would have broken down eventually. (Remember how she is crushed by the windiw she cleans ? Isn't it a metaphore for the domestic life oppressing her ?)
      It's a bit of a stretch, but I imagine that if she was not obliged to fulfill the duty of a perfect housewife, she might end up just as her husband was in real life.

    • @pierrotpierrot4768
      @pierrotpierrot4768 Рік тому +2

      @@myriamydri5148 yeah I agree. It’s a “honeymoon” happy phase, but it was a phase that they could not have in real life because Alice was so busy working to accommodate for his dependency. So I believe that the husband got what he wanted to prove in victory (at firsttt) because once Alice was free of the burden to provide, she had more time and love for him. Unfortunately, obviously this is not the actual real answer to his question because he didn’t marry a complacent woman. Alice wants to work and is actually proud of her career, so she becomes restless and starts being curious about her surroundings and wouldn’t let any mystery go. I actually find this to be quite a sad story because they looked so loved up in the first part of the movie, which means that they do actually love each other - but miscommunication and lack of understanding towards each other caused them to have different expectations of the relationship.

    • @maddog9265
      @maddog9265 Рік тому

      i don't think he had to pay for it all. for example, he truly believed that she would be happier there and that he was saving her even though he wasn't. but to help his insecurities he wanted to make her happy but assumed that her not working and doing nothing would help. so i think that he had to work to keep the apartment they're at, a place to store their bodies and so he could take care of her when he's back in the real life. SO they could live this virtual life forever where his own egotistical needs were satisfied. it's common for insecure men to run away from their problems and deny it and that's what this world is. he literally couldn't face alice finding out the truth. but i believe this is why he said he HATED having to work in the real life everyday because it's not ideal to have to take care of their real bodies, i don't think he would mind if it was to pay for the simulation. but of course this doesn't matter because at least ALICE won't have to. it's his own sick, twisted form of love. i also had a theory that maybe he didn't get fired or purposely (1)

    This would’ve been a great episode of Black Mirror. But as it being a Hollywood movie it fell flat.
    I think this movie had too big of a budget than what it deserved and that messed with the writing and directing. The car chase scenes were silly, the plane crash was left unexplained, the characters didn’t have much development and it was hard to feel a connection with them.
    A great thriller makes the audience feel uncomfortable but intrigued, the lines of discomfort could’ve been pushed so much more to make this film better. Focus more on deep hypnosis and the reality of women and children being put in here against their will.

(which is terrifying) there was even a story they cut out that alice didn't even know him and she helped him at the hospital and so jack liked her, kidnapped and picked her. but then they decided to have them together but i assume (which i believe we saw) that he still had to knock her out and bring her somewhere either way. also his mental health results came back "fair" not "good" suggesting that he could be receptive to manipulation or hypnosis.

(even though its very common, you would do anything to believe youre not the problem) this instantly made these types of men listen. hence them eventually agreeing to the victory project. so his eval showing fair kind of just proves and shows that he was AND is still subject to manipulation. i hope that clears things up.

While I relish equality, I recognize capitalism forcing two adults to create income, depriving one another from sanctuary and rest. There was genuine connection, in the guise of homemaking and bread winning, there was time for the two to connect, and while I don’t agree that patriarchy is what fosters this relationship, I see the importance in connection between spouses. I hope as the wheel turns egalitarianism grants humanity this connection, as it’s necessary for the enrichment of life.

    This movie reminds me of - "The Stepford Wives" it certainly has a few parallels between them.
