I totally agree about the ending, it sort of felt like an easy way out. Like when you write a story in elementary school and you don't know how to end it so you just say "it was all a dream" at the end
I'm pretty sure that Jack and Alice weren't actually married in the real world. I believe they were dating and had broken up - they had different last names, and when he showed up to kidnap her he came with flowers - as if they hadn't seen each other for a while and he was trying to get back together. Not to mention the whole "chosen wife, preexisting relationship - yes" had some extremely creepy implications - that probably most of the other "wives" were just kidnapped by their incel stalkers. The way Violet's husband (I think his name was Bill) reacted at the end reminded me of a spoilt child that had his toy taken away. Coupled with the fact that Violet constantly looked like "a deer in headlights" (they even said so in the movie) makes me believe they didn't have a preexisting relationship and she was just kidnapped...

I felt that the B&W dancers were intended to represent maniacal perfection, grace and synchronicity that women and girls are expected to display at all costs that end up driving us mad, ironically. I enjoyed it because I felt it was a grounding, overall commentary about men's desire to subjugate us to rigid or idyllic forms of femininity that will always exist (like the guys from the Daily Wire and manosphere in general), especially where women don't have the freedom to tell the truth.

I wouldn’t say the meaning of the movie is “misogyny bad”, but rather an analysis of misogyny with some nuanced takes. I think that it is a detailed observation of the mind control within the patriarchy and the real world sanism that women dealt with as a result. This how it really was.. a man decided she was making things up, a man decided that what she saw wasn’t real… and then treated her for insanity as just another way to gaslight her. This film is a super realistic take on misogyny, mind control, gaslighting and sanism when it comes to dialogue… it echoed the real world so chillingly because I’ve heard these things all my life, the common phrases that gaslight woman that are so pervasive to the point that it’s normalized.. especially when sterotypes are laid over her every time she tries to confront something. This movie shows what it’s like to be a woman in a relationship with a man who is a misogynist and simultaneously in a social environment that is influenced by misogyny.. it’s so alienating emotionally.
Did Jack really do it to make Alice happy though? I took it as him gaslighting her by saying that right before she killed him. He trapped her and took away all of her autonomy after she had been supporting both of them while he was jobless and doing nothing around the house! At least that’s how I interpreted it. Good video! Would like to clarify some things. The black and white dancers are the loading screen into the game. When the men go to work, they leave the simulation to go into the real work to work (maybe for Frank, maybe just their own jobs) and return for a few hours later.
There were a few things I liked about this movie. The cinematography and some of the performances, particularly Pugh, were outstanding. The twist kinda ruined all the good will I had for it though.

Any sort of medium should make one think (at least to a certain degree), but it feels like some things were introduced or even established only to be brushed over. It left me thinking …is that all? I think that what the writing got wrong with its comparisons with the "real world" in the movie and the fantasy world and the actual real world is that the influencers that Frank is supposed to be modeled off of are usually marketing themselves as self-help gurus who preach the message of self-improvement and that yes, the world is unfair, but you cannot change that the only thing you can change is yourself. Even in the movie, the advice that Frank is giving in his podcast is inherently self-motivating but the message and the results (with the men trying to control their women) are inherently different things with conflating messages. Like how does what Frank is saying in the real world even correlate to weak men trying to suppress women? The message is "gain confidence and become a stronger person" not "women are getting stronger therefore you have to control them and not change yourself"

Was really looking forward to DWD after Booksmart. It did not live up to the hype. If they’d had 40 mins instead of 20 mins to sit with the twist and explore the themes of its message, I think it COULD have been really good. As it was, big disappointment.

Hey everyone! I wanted to address the issue with the volume because numerous people have pointed it out to me. I have made a note that the background music is loud and distracting. I will improve on this when editing my next video, and future videos. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, and I'll do better next time!

Was really looking forward to DWD after Booksmart. It did not live up to the hype. If they’d had 40 mins instead of 20 mins to sit with the twist and explore the themes of its message, I think it COULD have been really good. As it was, big disappointment.

Just a small critique: The music playing in the background while you were speaking was a bit too loud and distracting. For me, as someone who is learning English as a foreign language and has tendencies of adhd, it was so difficult to concentrate on what you were saying.

Olivia Wilde misunderstand JP, just like the male comments in his lectures, who want to hear the messege “women be dependent on your husbands”. JP thinks that women who are married and have children are on avarage more happy then woman who dont have children. Not that women should not work. His own daughter is financinal independent while being married and has a child. Truman show, the city of women, a special day and sephord wives are much better films with the same messege.
It's funny it's actually single and childless women that are the happiest demographic.
Single Women live longer than married women, while married men live longer than single men.

i still find it really weird how easy people pile on jordan peterson. wilde constantly mentioned that the pine's character was based on him because of his "king of incels" status which is not the case? jordan peterson has been very openly outspoken against incels. he's not wrong for calling out wilde as a bully for piling on him. like fine if you don't like it but it doesn't sound like you actually know him, it just sounds like you hate him and think yourself above him because of hearsay in social media.

The compelling idea you raised is that of men in the 50s seeing women as objects. HOWEVER you don't point out that women too in the 50s saw (and today still see) men as success objects. Trying to sell objectification as misogyny is a stretch and to only point out the objectification of women by men but leave out the objectification of men buy women is #disingenuous... Ultimately Humans objectify each other, it's not normally a function of hatred but rather a consequence of biological and sociological programming. Male's reptilian brains cannot help but to see women as sexual objects because biologically it is etched in their DNA to spread their seed, so this animalistic objectification is nature not hatred. The a large part of the most male objectification/gaze comes from biological testosterone enduced urges, NOT out hatred of women. What is the female equivalent of incels that society calls out with disdain? You failed to provide even a cursory look at the systemic inequalities that women faced, which in the decades since the federal government has continued to take steps through administrative and legislative action to remedy.
