  • Somewhere on Earth - Best of: Alaska, Costa Rica, Micronesia & Morocco | Free Documentary
    00:00:00 Alaska
The land of pioneers and the gold rush keeps cultivating our wildest dreams, from the Kenaï Peninsula - a land sculpted by the sea and glaciers - to the Katmai - the sacred land of grizzlies.
We meet Libby, the passionate lover of mountains and the sea, Lionel, the adventurous guide in the Katmai National Park and Danial, the enthusiastic bush pilot.
    00:51:21 Costa Rica
A blend of science, passion and mystery, Costa Rica is a kingdom of stunning volcanoes, majestic waterfalls and of course, fierce surfers.
We meet Eladio, the man who lives between the volcanoes and the sea, Manolo, the old lonesome cowboy and Claudine, the biologist.
    01:42:35 Micronesia
Micronesia, 2000 little worlds surrounded by the vast ocean; the one thing they share is the feeling that the Pacific Ocean is their only link to the rest of the universe.
We meet Augustin, the solitary sentinel of a cursed city, Pasan, the tribal chief, and Bruce, the dedicated traveler.
    02:33:50 Morocco
A harsh land where the bashing winds sculpt spectacular landscapes, we discover the secrets of the saffron, the traces of the mythical desert caravans and the High Atlas Mountains.
We meet Abdullah, who will teach us the secrets of saffron, Julia, a nurse and Ali and l’Hô, the guides in the Sahara.

If there’s any worthwhile resolution it’s gotta be TRAVEL. If you do it by train, plane, bike,
walk or watching a documentary (yes, that counts too) travel. There will ALWAYS be something new to discover and things you recognize. Our planet is Amazing. And the Somehwere on Earth series is pretty good too 😉
    Happy New Year everyone.

I want to travel so bad, as I've barley been out of my home state of Pennsylvania and it's a horribly depressing area of Pennsylvania. Ripped apart from Anthracite coal mining days, our streams r polluted and mountains demolished. I look at the docs u guys often show and dream about getting to some of these places. I'm an artist/illustrator and would love to do a project someday painting and drawing the areas I get to see. If ya do that type of documantary hmu lol. Until then I can watch ur docs and dream.

When I was a child my adopted.father leased 2 islands and mined it for the tungsten metal. That was late 50s and early 60. It's gorgeous there. I think we were the only folks who wore clothes
Love to visit again it is magical
Dad had been a army colonel in the Air Corp in wwll. Polynyesian people have a wonderful culture and love their paradise. Dad talked of the the stone with holes in them which were history shows representative of their wealth. Pops used a ham radio to talk to the outside world. Wish America was so simple today. History is cool so is travel

Growing up in a rural setting taught me a lot. I spent the vast of spare time in the woods and around the streams/rivers. It taught me that I could be alone deep in the woods, and as the gentleman stated, you really do have to very self and situationally aware. Nature can be your best friend or worst enemy.

As an Alaskan, Kenai is pronounced “key-ni” long “e”, long “I”. Also, most of this is on a peninsula and your pin o Alaska pops up in the very middle of the state, in the Fairbanks area. You’re several hundred miles north of the peninsula. I do get a little prickly since so many people know so little about Alaska.

Nan Madol water city in Micronesia was built 3 times closer to to when the Eifel Tower was made than to when the Coloseum in Rome was built. It was built between the 13th and 17th century and it was the ceremonial and political center of the Saudeleur dynasty, which ruled Pohnpei until about 1628. So basically it was built after the UK parliament building was.

Ohhhh, was that Eivan Kilcher in the first part of this??? Damn sure looked like him & the pronouncing of his first name as "Ay-vin" was weird and he seemed very introverted and soft spoken to the way he is now. I'm thinking this doc is from 2009 as the cute Blondie said "Mt. Redoubt just erupted in April of this year" and the last time Mt. Redoubt erupted was in March thru July of 2009.
So I'm pretty sure that is "I-van" Kilcher as he is now known lol and it was before he met Eve and turned from a sheltered young guy into a rugged and self confident Reality TV star. I like all the Kilcher's (ecspecially Jewel bcuz of her crooked tooth) and the show, but damn the pronunciation of his name and he was a strange fella.
All tho I'm still not certain it is him...Is it Eivan Kilcher in the first segment?
