The Dubai Airshow 2023 was the first airshow to feature a showdown between India's Tejas and Pakistan's JF-17. I'd love to compare them, but sadly the Tejas went tech today and scrubbed its display after take-off. But I did get to see the JF-17A Thunder Block-2.

Third time lucky: today I finally got a
back-to-back comparison between JF-17
& Tejas. This is not a comment on
operational capability. Both were decent
displays but I think the Tejas narrowly takes
the win, with a more cohesive, flowing
sequence. The smokewinders helped, too.

Most people are already tired of that comparison.
China is not going to be putting much more money into JF-17's development
and neither is the PLAAF buying any of those planes.
That says everything.
China's plan to create an F-5 Tiger equivalent (i.e. JF-17) that they could export to countries which support their foreign policy as the US did during the Cold War has not turned out as expected.
The F-5 was a great plane for its time.
Even the Soviets shocked at how well the plane performed when they pitted captured F-5 jets against the Mig-21 in mock combat.
The JF-17 meanwhile has been grounded by practically all of the (few) states which China gifted these planes -- due to safety issues.

I hope the AMCA engines are developed with GE
and both then go on to push it into military and civilian usage.
Building a future arms ecosystem with America
is one of the more important strategic initiatives for India.

Year 2300 india is yet to decide engine and engine partner for amca and tejas mk2.
I think it is in our strategic interest not to reveal the name of the company we r going ahead with for the engines otherwise the company will start arm twisting us for more money nd less services.
Dude india has signed to develop engine with safran, its in drdo own interest not reveal publicly the name of safran other wise we have a deal with ge for their f414 engine also and they might pressure drdo to work with them for next engine, drdo chief are always advised not to share details of these things in publicly so to not harm deals with other partners

With general electric(USA) playing hide and seek for even our extra orders of ge-404/414 engines for 100 tejas-mark-1a orders leave alone for amca-mark-1 and amca-mark-2 engines highly uncertain, and our indigenous 5th generation aircrafts amca easily more than a decade away, now iaf should seriously think of outright purchase of 5th generation aircrafts through either mrfa-2 competition Or outside it if we have to keep pace with our principle adversary china.

May be an option could be.. different type of engine with each different vendor... fighter jet engine, helicopter engine, passenger / transport plane engine, open propeller engine, etc
I heard that Safran might be a choice since we both need next generation engine so we can together develop the engine, while in the case of rolls Royce or GE they are giving the technology they already have. AMCA mark 2 should we 6th gen otherwise we will be lagging behind.
5th and 6th are all meaningless.
many 4.5+ gen aircraft can outperform so called 5th gen aircraft in many categories.
decision should be based on long term cooperation on engine and aircraft development for military and civilian sector.

we have never seen those claims tested.
the F35 has to rely on the F-18 Growler (EW aircraft) to jam enemy radar before it enters the battle space.
so how well does it stealth really work ?
with modern AESA radars, stealth is getting uncovered at longer and longer ranges.

It’s better to go with Saffron because it’s looks like they would loose if they ditch us.
I think Safran has much better chance because they have already worked with HAL and other Indian subsidiaries. So Diplomatically and Economical France has a better chance.
One thing to know and understand is that Indian government never open up it's card too early or too late. 😂😂

Well it was not decided which company india should move on with, so i always say that we should not never believe something hardly unless we see the actual official reports.
And what i think is, both safran and GE have a 50/50 chance in this. As it will be much easier and efficient to develop, and also since we are already going to use American engines, not to mention US have a very good R&D dor 5th gen platforms and engines. Whereas, french 5th gen fighter program (collaboration between Germany, france and other countries) is itself a mess, theres 0 clarity when the 5th gen fighter will ever be developed or even if it will come of not. And the thing is the 6th gen engine we were going to build in collaboration between safran and HAL, was also going to be used in French future 5th gen fighters. So french even if they have a good setup of helicopter engines and 4.5 gen aircrafts, there work on a 6th gen engine and 5th gen fighter technology is very questionable. But again, we should not believe blindly, there may be things which i missed, maybe not.

We should go with Safran since they have the last chance to ditch us.
China has around 250 5th generation J20 fighter jets which are now getting upgraded with WS 15 engine which is more powerful than the one used in the F22 Raptor. India is still in development of a 5th generation jet AMCA which won't be operational in even 10 years. Either we really pick up the pace and invest in R&D now or we are going to get screwed. The rafale or the Su 30 MKI don't hold a feather to the J20. Don't let ignorant people fool you into thinking it is a cheap Chinese product. It is very real and very very dangerous.

All these terminologies (5th, 6th) are simply marketing buzzwords.
The reality is the world has yet to see 5th gen planes.
Most 5th gen planes have some advantages against 4.5+ gen planes but some really huge disadvantages.
You will know when 5th gen aircraft arrive -- when they can outcompete 4/4.5+ gen aircraft easily.
That is not the case today.
Drdo is most confused body in the world
AMCA will be scrapped in next 1-2 yrs, IAF will go for Su57 or F35 in the end😂😂😂

ok for 3rd gen aircraft which flew straight lines into the enemy territory, fired their rockets and bombs (most of which missed) and got out as fast as possible.
not so for 4/4.5 gen planes, especially for air-to-air combat.
Old Turbojet engine and thrust is not the only parameter for engine design. You really need to learn the basisc of jet engines.
