There's a documentary on hip hop that came out a few years ago where Jean Grae said labels gave radio stations a list rappers NOT TO PLAY. They showed who's on it & Talib Kweli, A+, & her were on the list.
I'm white and completely agree with Wise. Growing up I saw how kids started modeling their whole lives around hiphop. But they're listening to the commercialized version that promotes sex, violence, and drugs only because the labels know those are popular vice topics. Kids are losing their faith in society before they even get in middle school. That's why I love listening to real, positive hiphop like Wise, it gives me hope that there are still positive messages being received out there. Peace
i had knowledged this yrs ago; but one day in the pj's of yonkers ny(schlobaum) i witnessed a group of children(lil girls) 4-8 yrs old singing the song "i kissed a girl and i liked it" (think it's katy perry ??) and it was like a slap in the face to re-awaken me that what wise was talking about is so(sadly) true; something has to change(speaking to myself first) or else they will just keep dumbing us down...
I call his and similar talks and speeches "Lift me up for a day" speeches or talks. There's absolutely nothing stopping us from building the industry that he and I speak of but it will take more than inspiring talk. It will take work that neither he, I, you or the Nation of Islam is doing effectively.
