- GH 04-05-79 -- Thursday / Episode 58 (full episode) - Part 1 of 2
This episode that comes straight from the ABC/GH vault!!
Take note of the clapboards at the beginning, showing tape & air dates, and the on screen time counter... The unedited episode doesn't have fades between scenes and there are blackouts in the spaces where commercials will appear (I deleted the long spaces to post on YT). VERY COOL stuff! The picture is CRYSTAL clear!
~Takes place just before Jeff tells Rick that Steve Hardy is his father; followed by Scotty & Laura's meeting with Rick & Lesley when they ask for permission to get married.~
Part 2 -
Scotty gives Monica the cold shoulder. Jeff is dodging Steve & Rick -- for different reasons. Gail tells Monica about Scotty's questioning. Dan & Jessie return from their vacation in Canada. Dan is persistent in his quest to marry Jessie. Jessie isn't sure yet. Luke almost 'spills the beans' in front of Scotty. The "evil" Bobbie is in full swing. Anne tries to talk with Jeff about Jeremy, but he is summoned to 'big brother's' office. Heather continues her crusade to erode Diana's sanity.
These old episodes are like old songs...they take you back to a time in your life, memories of people long gone...thanks for the melancholy.
This was a Masterpiece of a S0AP Opera back in the day!!
I really miss the old hospital set. It was great and should have never been changed
This was "the new set" back then ... I remember when they introduced it, it was a revolutionary leap forward
@@Marcel_Audubon wowww
As I watch these, I cant help but notice what a wonderful job these actors did in developing their characters- amazing- and let's not forget- Dr Jeff Weber went on to be our beloved "McGiver".... so much talent
Yes, he is a sheer delight here! He is 79 years old now though. Still fun to see him as a younger sexy doctor!
@@USAjock9 Richard dean anderson is not 79....google him...but this was the best heather and the show was great back then....nowadays it is woke trash

Love Scotty
When General Hospital was still General Hospital and the storylines
were great and had more interesting characters and the mob was only
a minor part of the stories and the hospital was the main focus of
General Hospital and they still had that great ending with the credits
rolling up the screen with the hospital in the background.
But but but prior years.. Nurse (Jessie) Brewer was one they stopped showing and one I grew up seeing and thought a comforting presence (although I was young and didn't really pay attention to all story lines as my mom watched)
Edit: YAY!!! 😊 They showed Dr. Steve Hardy and Nurse Brewer! (They reminded me of the, kind, real life doctors and nurses I had encountered in my young life)
So great to see Mary O’Brien’s Heather again and her mom Alice Grant.
Such wonderful stories and memories.
Great writing back then. Plz show more of these classic episodes. Gail is so pretty.
Loved, loved, LOVED Gail! Such a wonderful, beautiful friend.
Gail brought a level of class wherever she went. She was a good friend to Monica. G.H. was so good back in ‘79 & ‘80.
Watching this brings back wonderful memories with my mother when I was in my teens. Thank you!!!
12:00 Luke........OH my gosh he was just as funny then!! Then to say good thing their father didn't have a car cause of being too drunk to drive it.......TG was so spot on right from the beginning. AMAZING he is!!
Some viewers might not know that at one point the writers were actually toying with the idea of having Jessie sleep with Dan before marriage. But Emily McLaughlin vehemently disapproved of the idea so they nixed it. I remember a scene where Jessie actually picked a fairly revealing night gown to take with her on their ski trip. Jessie had been very lonely before Bobbie moved in as her room mate. Jessie's notorious last husband Phil had been murdered 5 years earlier in 1974. If memory serves me correctly that was the last front burner story line that Emily had. But she had been front and center as one of the anchor stars of the show from day one in 1963.
Thanks so much for the info!
Terrific epsiode!! Thank you! Brooke Bundy and Craig Huebing were so good as Diana and Peter such a tragic couple. I was a huge Valerie Starret fan, but Brooke is so good an actress. The writing is superb!!
I loved Valerie Starret who originated the role of Diana and I was angry when she was replaced. But I grew to love Brooke Bundy. She was a terrific actress. After she retired from acting she went on to teach acting at a college.
I will also never forget her guest spot on The Brady Bunch where she played part of a couple that adopted 3 boys of different ethnicities. One was black, white and Asian. She called her family the "Kelly Rainbow. Lol.
I also loved Craig Huebing and grew up watching him. To this day I still think he is one of the best actors in GH history. Not even Tony Geary or Maurice Benard could best him IMO. This is back when Doug Marland was writing the show and his writing coupled with Gloria Monty's production values quickly saved GH from cancellation and shot the show up in ratings. by 1978 they were in second place and by 79 they took the number one spot from All My Children. GH stayed number one until 1988 when YR finally beat them. But GH stayed in the top 3 and was YR cheif competition in the 90s.
What an absolute gem of an episode from a very well and intriguing era in G.H. Timeless. Thank you.
When General Hospital was truly good especially the Rick & Monica affair. It must seem so strange to ppl to see Laura in love with Scotty and where Luke and Bobbi were at that time but it so authentic as they evolved. Watch when handsome detective Joe cones and discovers what Heather is up to....I really miss my stories as we called them back then.😂
Poor Jessie. Emily McLaughlin was so luminous even here.
Heather's plan is brilliant, and what a contrast to the trash of today.
US Soaps were SO much better 40-50 years ago.
This is when I started watching GH, DOOL and Y&R as a kid during summer vacations and school holidays.
I still watch all 3 today but they are shells of their former selves.
Leslie Charleson (Monica) is such a naturally authoritative actress. I always found her to be the most believable.
YAY!!! You are the BEST!! More vault vids! I hope (as I know you do) that you stumble on the late summer - winter 1980 + missing vids from early 1981!! Fantastic as always!!
The acting was great on this show!
Oh, what great memorie's!!!! So good to see this!!!!!!❤❤❤!!!!!!!
so glad these are available to watch. Thx God for Iron Mt, keeping them intact!
GH today needs to focus more on the hospital and less on mobsters. This was the good old days!
Bobbie: "...no reason for him to treat me like that." Really??? Faking a pregnancy to trick him into marriage isn't a good enough reason? She's lucky he was as civil as he was to her.
In real life I don't think anyone would be nice to Bobbie again.
Scotty was sort of mean to Monica there.
I forgot how friendly Luke and Scotty were back then. "Uh...cuz he's got his father's car"? Lol!
did you miss the part where Luke was telling Bobby how he was going to "get even with Scottie": Thinkinge, and if memory serves- there was no love loss there- well before Laura
Scotty is pissed at Monica because he knows about her affair with Rick.
@@karenjohnston4020 You either misheard or didn't understand. Luke said "and [if] I hear the words just once 'reform school,' 'Laura Webber,' or 'how am I going to get even with Scotty?' I'm walking out!" He's sick of all Bobbie's scheming against Laura and Scotty. There was no hostility b/t Luke and Scotty before the revelation of the rape, although Luke obviously grew to resent Scotty more and more for having what he, Luke, wanted and felt he could never get. Sort of a lower-key version of Bobbie's obsessive jealousy.
☝🏻☝🏻✅
Monica deserved it!
MOB is soooo good in this ep....that last scene with the "little blue suit" is so well played by her - the subtle facial expressions, the smug look of satisfaction when another one of her tortured phone calls gets to Diana.
When Jessie broke up with Dan that was the dumbest thing she ever did. This cat and mouse game lasted for 2 years.
I really wish Jessie and Dan got married. They were so good together
@@Creating2413 Then he ended pursuing Ruby for several years, and she said no. Dumb. DAN was a catch.
@@mikemontgomery7857 I agree. Dan was so kind hearted and generous. He was always helping everyone. The sad thing was I think Jessie really cared for him but just hadn't fully healed from her past. But any lady would have been lucky to have him!
@@Creating2413 Ruby thought she wasn't good enough for him.
I miss this Scotty so dreamy.
Reminds me of Christian Kane
Yes
LMAOOOO Luke cracked me up at 12:00!!!! Sigh god I miss this era 😢 but more than anything I wish I could see Luke and Laura together again and happy forever like Herb Alpert and his wife Lani
same!
Luke raped Laura. I don’t see how that’s a love story?
Sadly that cant be, primarily because of thier age difference. Tony Geary now is nearly his 80s while GH is just in her very early 60s. Even if Tony Geary ever did agree to come back for a visit he would still eventually leave and we cant expect Genie Francis to leave her iconic role on the show just to have her character walk off into the sunset with Luke. She still has bills to pay and doesnt seem at all ready to retire herself. So we would still have to see Luke and Laura part. Id love to see Tony and Genie work together again. But the premise of Luke and Laura living happily ever after is just not feasble. Perhaps when Genie is actually ready to retire she could talk Tony into coming back to take her off canvas. But sadly he could be dead by then. That's the reality of life in the mortal world. Contrary to Mick Jagger Time is not on our side lol.
But on the bright side there is an eternity coming after we give up the ghost here.
Heather is so devious. Love it.....
At this time Alice didnt know that PJ was actually her grand son Steve Lars. But when she found out she hit the roof. But she later decided to keep Heather's secret until Diana found out after Peter died of a heart attack. I really hated how they sacrificed Craig Huebing ( Peter) for this plot though. He was an incredible actor and I still miss him today.
I agree about Craig Huebing. I think the show was trying to clear out as many characters as they could from the pre-Gloria Monty era. I also was very disappointed that they found a new actress to play Diana. I preferred the original actress.
@@jeremyberman7808 I preferred Valerie Starret also. I have so many memories of growing up and watching her stellar performances as Diana. I got even more angry when I read in a soap mag that they replace Valerie because they wanted a "more youthful" actress. Valerie didnt look old to me and I was a child watching her!
That Heather was always bad news!!!!
thanks so much for posting these!
McGiver! 😂✌️. Wait. McGyver? Yep. 👏👏
Yeah McGyver Richard Dean Anderson
Jessie Brewer's home! Wow.
Lol -- File clerk Scotty tells Doctor (Monica) HE's too busy to talk
This is great stuff!
I used to lap every second of this period up, savoring every second. This episode encapsulates good serial writing... Each scene involved building tension on long simmering feuds, emotions, desires and secrets. Newer characters are tied to older (would we have given half a crap about evil Bobbi had she not lived with our sainted nurse Jessie? Marland showed the natural and real affection between them). Steve had a story, it seems every signal character was involved in something.msadly, this bal
You summed up the appeal of soaps back in the classic days. Its sad that we dont have writers like the late Doug Marland still writing today. Whats also sad is that soaps dont have the budget to tell well crafted stories much any more. The actors rarely get really long term contracts these days unless they have a lot of clout with the network or producers. These days its like a revolving door so the writers dont have long to tell slowly develop stories and bring them to a fruition. Today's soap writing is so haphazard and hit or miss.
I am truly in awe! keep posting these!
Scottie was so WHITE BREAD, LOL!
Scotty really didnt become interesting until he turned bad after he caught the bouquette at the LNL Wedding. That was a classic and Kin Shriner looked so hot with that beard!
The actress who played Gail subcommed to Alzheimer's...sad
I had no idea ! That is so sad ! I always liked her .
The Hot Scottie days
I like Jeff's hair.Luke is looking good too.
Monica was so beautiful... she's beautiful in the 1980's episodes I've been watching too but wow what a beauty she was in her youth.
I was Team Lesley 100% so when I see Monica from these old episodes, I just see mean, cheating witch. 😂
aaaaaaw, well Lesley was a very, very lovely woman so I don't blame you. I enjoy both. Just as I LOVE Anna Devane but I also reallly like 80's Olivia Jerome LOL@@traceydobesh5446

Bobbi was so pretty until she went to far with the plastic surgery!!!
and she got hooked on plastic surgery years ago. her first breast implants happened somewhere around 81 or 82.
Her and Hunter Tylo (Taylor from Bold & the Beautiful)
@@TheDondon14 Hunter was seriously one of the most beautiful women I'd ever seen. JZ was also absolutely stunning. Damn shame they do this rather than age naturally.
LOL!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣✌️!!!
Do you Remember when She was Lana McLean on OLTL???
Luke!!!!!
THE MAN😊
My favorite.
The writers went through an awful period where no 2 characters could come together without "sending their best" to someone - usually someone they had just seen 20 minutes ago. It got to be ridiculous.
There's only one case of it here, but it reminded me of those black days.
😆
I liked Alice she was old school cool !!
Man Laura I would have picked Scottie over luke any day!!
Not me.
Scott is dumb for a lawyer.
Scottie always had some head of hair.
Hell no Luke Spencer is the MAN
Scott was too bossy
Scotty knows something. I think some of this drove him to want to marry Laura more.
Romabriere where did you get these episodes that actually have the clap boards? I would love to see the good quality versions of any of the Epidemic episodes or the episode where Rick returns home and Leslie confronts him about where he has been all night.
I'm not sure who has it but there was one where Lesley is worried about Rick and waiting for him to come home. I think she was worried about his safety because she finds out that the quarantine has been lifted
There were zero chemistry with Scotty and Laura. No wonder writers hooked Luke with Laura.
I loved Scotty and Laura together before they got married. They had a lot of good scenes. I do think Gloria Monty held back on pushing any really passionate scenes on Genie until she was 17 which was in late May of 1979. Even their honeymoon was pretty tame. Kin who played Scotty was 9 years older than Genie, so I can imagine that might have been the reason.
Totally disagree...in fact they were so popular with young people that they practically saved the show from cancelation in 1978...and the fact that they dated in real life
@@lisacarman167 True and Tony Geary was even older lol. Im sure that's why the Disco rape scene wasnt that graphic either. Genie even had to kidd Jerry Ayres ( David Hamilton) when she was just 14 or 15 lol. That must have been gross for her lol. Fun fact. Kin Shriner was also Genie's first real life boyfriend because she didnt know anyone else anywhere near her age lol. So it just happened lol.
@@frankmc73 Very true. Gloria Monty took a page out of Agnes Nixon's book and started to create younger couples. Kin and Genie were the flagship younger couple. Doug Marland's specialty was writing young love stories so everything clicked perfectly then and the ratings shot up.
The trouble came when Gloria decided she wanted to keep Tony Geary ( Doug had planned to kill off Luke after the rape). But Gloria had other plans. Doug quit the show, Roy was killed instead of Luke and the rest is history.
But Kin and Genie rarely get the credit they deserve for helping save GH!
I believe Kin took Genie’s virginity if I remember Genie’s lifetime bio.
Is there any episodes of when jeff and monica were married
Hold on!!! Jessie & Dan were such an item they were taking vacations? I was watching by this point, but I was wrapped up in Laura, Bobbie, Scotty, & Luke. Why did Jess stop dating him? I remember him trying so hard to get her to date him, but I don't remember them as an item.
For one thing Dan tried to persuade Jessie to share a room with him when they went on vacation. Jessie was tempted but turned him down. I read that Emily McLaughlin was against the idea of Jessie having casual sex. Emily was a devout Christian and she was from the generation where "good girls" didnt do that, even as senior citizens lol.
Dan and Jessie were an item??? I only know of Dan and Ruby lol.
Dan rebounded to Ruby when Jessie turned down his marriage proposal.
I just noticed that Luke/TG doesn't have the deep cleft in his chin that he has later on.
He has a lot of make up on in this clip.
I liked TG/Luke with makeup, felt he coulda used more later on, either way he was pretty cute.
The last time I saw Jessie's apartment was when she was saying goodbye to Jane Dawson (circa 1975). I stopped watching after GH's expansion to 45 minutes.
I like Luke in the early years. No perm, less arrogant, not overtaking the show, sigh. Bobbie I never liked. These scheming Carly-like times were my first impression of her and I never could warm to her character.
Bobbie Spencer was my favorite character
Tony looks good with straight hair! Classic GH. Luke and Laura were the best!
Luke and Anne don’t have perms!
And they both look better without them!
Honestly I liked Susan Pratt's perm so much better than Tony Geary's! Lol. Susan was so pretty in her youth. I believe she was well under 30 when she played Anne.
I loved this Scotty so much. He needs to come back and charm Laura away from Kevin. They say 3rd times a charm, I would love to see them back together.
Laura and Kevin make a nice couple
I agree
Maybe the 3rd time is a charm
I notice some high angle shots in these...was that to give us the impression that it's real life and we're "spying" on their lives. Interesting concept. They definitely weren't using those shots in the 1980s even... at least not the mid or later...
Luke did look funny impersonating "Joe College." Not his style at all
I like Luke sans perm.
I don’t. I think he looks so much better as time goes on especially fall 79 and into 1980 esp at the Whittakers
I was not born yet & I'm interested in all of this. Seems gh was good at connecting characters. I heard Bobbie was a bad girl like early carly. She would call laura princess & pull stunts just like carly. I liked liked straight hair much better .
Monica should of just shut up ... good grief she knows everything about Scotty and Laura’s life .. and she lets Scott know she knows
Scotty knew that Monica slept w/ Rick @ this time. Hence the reason for his attitude towards her here.
Cant wait for perm Luke. Softened his character. Looks like a skeaze here.
Discrase when Jesse died it wasn't acknowledged!!! Shame!!!!!!!
Luke a college boy?!

Who was Lana Maclean
What was her story in ll an view PA
Yes! I’ll never forget Lana being strangled on OLTL, then she zipped out of the elevator (literally the next day) as Bobbie on GH. 😂
You know I kept thinking I had seen her on something else. Was it during the time that Judith Light was on there?
@@cindys5426 yes, the very best era!

Luke is attracted to Laura now. Won’t participate in Bobbie’s games.
The old Heather was deceitful, but not as masterful at it as Robin Mattson

The sexual chemistry between tony ( Luke ) and genie ( Laura ) palpable ...like no other in soap history
You really didn't know? Hmm.
Bobbie's a whiner
Wasn't there an episode where Jessie found out about Bobbie's scheming and Jessie told her how disappointed in her she was?
Yes I believe that was after Lesley busted Bobbie for faking her pregnancy and actually switched bloodtest with a patient at the hospital. She couldve been fired for doing that. But Lesley gave her some grace. Jessie knew about Bobbie's past as a hooker but didnt judge her for that. But she did let her have it about the faked pregnancy. Bobbie was crushed because Jessie was a mother figure to her. That was the beginning of Bobbie's redemption. But it took a while.
