I never heard this song until about a year ago (2023). I give guitar lessons, and by coincidence, three of my adult students all showed an interest in this tune, so I looked into it. Wow! What a tune!!!! I can't get it out of my head, and there are tons of great covers... like this one.
We were born before the wind, Also younger than the sun. Ere the Bonnie boat was one, As we sailed into the mystic. Hark now hear the sailors cry, Smell the sea and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly, As we sailed into the mystic. And when that foghorn blows, I will be coming home. And when that foghorn blows, I wanna hear it, I don't wanna fear it, And I wanna rock your gypsy soul. And it's just like the days of old. And together we will flow, As we sailed into the mystic. Come on, Come on And when that foghorn blows, I will be coming home. And when at foghorn blows, I wanna hear it, I don't wanna fear it, And I wanna rock your gypsy soul. And it's just like way back in the days of old. And together we will flow, As we sailed into the mystic. Come on, Come on, Come on Well, it's too late to stop now, It's too late to stop now.
Unquestionably one of the top three renditions ever. Right there with Pearl Jam doing the Who's Love Reign Over Me. I actually met Colin James right after this was released and I told him exactly that. He was so gracious and humble. What a great cat. He told me that he had Van Morrison's drummer on this track
I was there it was awesome , he only played about ten songs or so but we got a meet and greet and pics with him shortly because , though you would never know it there , he was a little under the weather, the slide guy i forget his name, local guys from Toronto ,very good back guys for sure ,was a lot of talent on that small stage , there was only maybe a hundred of us in the audience, I don't think they do those anymore to bad !
Enjoy! Colin James is no secret to Canadians. With the death of Jeff Healey I believe that Colin James is now Canada's greatest living guitarist. He can play any kind of music and play it masterfully.
saw him in Glasgow middle November,,,Great Music.......and a really nice `down to Earth` guy,,,had a wee blether with him and got him to sign his cd for me ;-)
Agree Spiaticus Blah! He should be known as a master guitarist, entertainer, and a Canadian. Another damn Canadian. :) Yep, we get cold up here occasionally and when we're cold, we write and sing music.
All hail the roughriders! He will be cheering for Regina Roughriders in this years Grey Cup! I play with his brother in a band. HAven't really had a chance to meet him yet. Shook his hand and seen him play with his brother. I think he is the best blues rock guitarist out there. Seems to be able to master any style he plays in. Years ago I thought David Gogo would give Colin a run for the money. Didnt seem to break through though. Check David Gogo out he is still amazing.
Sorry... have to disagree! I absolutely think that Colin James is a great guitarist but, Alex Lifeson ring a bell? I would give you a clue but, I'm in no RUSH :)
Screetch2 : Lifeson, Lee, & Peart fail to do musically coherent / appropriate notes & riffs. Rush's music doesn't fit together. James is a real musician.
One of the best renditions I've heard.. Listening in Scotland.. 👏👏👏🎙🎼🎸
Colin did full justice to this song. World-class talent.
COLIN JAMES is Spectacular Live...
PURE Talent!
Truly makes us Canadians Proud and a MUST SEE when Touring!!! ❤
Seen him 4 times in concert already,

I’ve been privileged to see him live in chilliwack, yrs ago got a pic with him and a signed CD

Love Colin James, what a great talent. He deserves to be more well known.
Colin, I am blown away!!! You absolutely mastered this!!! ❤✌
Saw Colin in Cornwall Ont., what a great show that was! Should always be in the conversation of greatest guitar players but somehow gets overlooked.
Colin is amazing. A master of many guitars and a voice to match. Always worth seeing live. Look forward to see you at home in the NY Colin. ❤
My favorite song of all time. Colin you do it like it should
!
I love colin....He use to play in Vancouver a lot years ago....what an amazing talent.

Gives me goosebumps when I hear him sing this tune..........
Wow ...
Aging so gracefully....playing the music he loves and inspired him to do what he does!!
Very good rendition !!!
Always a favorite, whoever sings it but this is a beautiful version, very nice...
Saw Colin live in Peterborough for the first time awesome show he has to be among the top blues guitarists in North America if not the world.
Just like the late Jeff Healey totally underrated.
He’s fabulous ❤
Unquestionably one of the top three renditions ever. Right there with Pearl Jam doing the Who's Love Reign Over Me.
I actually met Colin James right after this was released and I told him exactly that.
He was so gracious and humble.
What a great cat.
He told me that he had Van Morrison's drummer on this track
First saw him in concert at the PNE in... 1989? He was the reason I bought the ticket because I'd been a fan. Still a fan.
Beautiful, well done!
nice cover Van would be smiling ...loe the tribute to him with the drummer's hat! Cool.
Van Morrison is still alive though
Saw this on friday in Vancouver. The slide guitar by chris is perfect. What a good team!
Saw Colin in chilliwack years ago! Got a pic with him and a signed CD!❤️
I LOVE the acoustics. I love the sea. I'm thinking of putting together a melody of songs about the sea!
Great job, luv your style!
never seen Colin James with a slide player! He's a good slide man himself, That Larivee sounds good too !

Highly under rated musician.
What a great musician, have every ablum he has put out.
I can't believe im this old...isnt he wonderful
Very good version of Mr. Morrisson's song which I just love.
Wow. Trying to play this now with some difficulty. Van would be proud but his fans must be dying off. Only 200k hits. You rock, Colin.
saw him at Kitchener Blues Festival last night ....was a cool wet night ....but was hot and dry in the tent ....colin rocked it out !!!!
Love this
Great version - nice slide guitar
Awesome !
Chris Caddell is awesome. Saw them live last week.
He's coming to Calgary on March 3 2016.So excited
saw him in Glasgow middle November,,,Great Music.......and a really nice `down to Earth` guy,,,had a wee blether with him and got him to sign his cd for me ;-)
I cannot wait. The jube is an amazing venue aswell.
Awesome great player
Love you Colin, Saw you again Georgian Bay June 2017
Agree Spiaticus Blah! He should be known as a master guitarist, entertainer, and a Canadian. Another damn Canadian. :) Yep, we get cold up here occasionally and when we're cold, we write and sing music.
Can't wait to see him in October...
Outstanding!!!!

He’s a looker, and a great musician to boot
Fuck this guy is good....
Did "Why'd You Lie" ever do anything for you? It's the song that sold me.
Luv this Colin, XXX
this rendition.....
Real nice cover.
Lappin' up the 'lectric, yum yum...(!)
Awesome
who is that playing electric slide? Not Cooder but still very nice.
Nice tribute to Van the Man
sick
he's a secret jewel of the pacific
Nice
My personal preference is for Colin James over Alex Lifeson. By a fair bit. But Lifeson is brilliant, no doubt about it.
Van Would Have Proud !!!
Don't be so quick to usher Van into his grave.
nice guitar.
Colin is a cutie..
ahhh Colin ....so fine
As a terrible bassist, I was dying to follow the 5 string stand up, but the audio refused to let me, damnit.🤬
He was taught by Stevie Ray Vaughn...Right before Stevie died
Reminds me of the song that Kid Rock did years ago... a remake, but not a remake... a whole new song.
Sorry... have to disagree! I absolutely think that Colin James is a great guitarist but, Alex Lifeson ring a bell? I would give you a clue but, I'm in no RUSH :)

Hey man, another one I'd like to learn, and this version, you could do the slide parts, and it would be sick!
