@@manfredkomrowski5981 Glad you liked it. I knew you would. It's a long rabbit hole. As I said in another comment I have no idea why these guys aren't bigger.
Yes! These guys are so underrated. You ever listen to a band you've never heard before, and wonder why they aren't bigger? This is one of them. I was lucky enough to see them in concert a few years back at a Miranda Lambert concert as she was dating the lead singer at the time.
Very deep rabbit hole!! So many good songs. The Funeral, Tornado Warning, The Mercury, Bird Hunters, Pay No Rent, Long Drive Home, Quit While I’m Ahead
This song was written by John Hartford who also wrote Gentle on my Mind. This song is about working barges on the Illinois River from Pekin, Illinois to Alton, Illinois. (I live about 35 miles from the river.) Not floats to tubes. I believe Hartford worked the River for a while. You should get to know the Troubadours since the are from Oklahoma. They are the most awesome band.
While the Troubadours here did a great job here, I love his original from the Mark Twang album. Definitely worth checking out by him are: I'm Still Here [the version from the Housing Project album], and This Eve of Parting which was featured in the movie Lady Bird just a few years ago. It almost goes without saying that Gentle on My Mind by Glen Campbell is a MUST listen.
Yeah. It's about working on tow boats and big giant barges moving grain, gravel, chemicals, and lots of other things up and down the Illinois River which flows into the Mississippi. It's about the life of folks who work hard moving huge loads of stuff in that river system. It's a great song that's been recorded and performed by a lot of artists. But it's not about a relaxing float on a nice day.
Interesting to me that the original writer of this song had the last name Hartford. Hartford IL is where the confluence of the Illinois, Missouri & Mississippi rivers meet, and right by Alton IL. River town.
You’ve entered the world of red dirt/Texas country. It’s a modern movement that takes country back to its roots vs the pop stuff that Nashville puts out now.
Boys from Oklahoma - Cross Canadian Ragweed. Oklahoma Breakdown - Stoney LaRue. You’re the reason God made Oklahoma” - David Frizzel and Shelly West. These are just from the top of my head but I’m sure Oklahoma gets a lot more love than you think. I’m fairly sure I have Live from the “Wormy Dog Salon” tracks. Hell, you have a whole genre called Red Dirt music and it’s great.

New to me band, but I love it!! I’ll definitely be looking for more of them!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've been to the Illinois river, Boy Scouts, canoeing, etc around 1972
Oh and i gotta say, since y'all appreciate turnpike, kyle nix has another band called kyle nix and the 38s and in 2020 covid time, he wrote a song about a brother. Last month he told me he's about to record it. It's gonna go straight to the top. I told you first here ❤
An old friend is in this band!
My hometown and old stomping grounds Great Reaction 😎👍
turnpike troubadours had a mus ic festival called medicine stone at Diamond Head for years
Are you serious?! When was this?
@@RobSquadReactions I believe it started around 2012 or 2013. It was replaced with a similar music festival without the Turnpike Troubadours who were on hiatus in about 2021. The turnpike troubadours do a lot of concerts now all around the United States. They will be in Pryor, Oklahoma mid-September at a big, outdoor music festival, called, born and raised.
Troubadours are the bomb 💣
They have sooooo many awesome tracks. Just put out some new stuff.
My favorites are
7 and 7
The Bird Hunters
Every Girl
Being someone who lives in the state of Illinois, I can tell you, the 's' is silent. And by the way, I never knew Oklahoma had an Illinois River. Cool! I live along the Illinois River in my state.
An RSR float trip down the Illinois? Sign me up, even from Canada!!
These guys are awesome! You gotta check out some of their Lori songs, The Mercury, Good Lord Lori. Deep catalog, great band!
fiddle and guitar, good combo
Y’all have no idea how excited I am that you’re doing some Texas country! I couldn’t hit this played button fast enough when I saw Turnpike Troubadours! ❤❤❤
Do 7&7
Here in Utah we don't float the river we run the rapids. Down in Moab, Green River and the Colorado River. Lot of canyons to see when running the rapids. Great song. Life and fun on the water.
I lived in Tulsa for 5 years and I miss it .
Yesssssss. Turnpike is the best! One of the only bands I can play and not skip a single song
Float trip! Let’s do it! 🍻🎶🔥
Gin, Smoke & Lies from them needs to be next. You'll love exploring the lyrics
Bout time you guys hit some turnpike. Loved watching you guys since your Forest Gump video reaction. Big fan. Keep it going.
Well these boys raised around southeast Oklahoma. Here in McCurtain County we have Mountain Fork river to go rafting on ,there is Beaver's Bend St. Park to visit and yes we have a bigfoot festival so there is alot to do and see Oklahoma
Y'all gotta do more bluegrass reacts! I know this isn't really bluegrass with the electric guitar and drums. But John Hartford, who wrote this song, is a bluegrass icon!
YES! Turnpike Troubadours are so good! You should check out their other song Whole Damn Town if you haven’t already.
The fiddle player is a gentleman named Kyle Nix from my town of Perry Oklahoma ❤
Just have to recommend Arlo Guthrie's "City of New Orleans". You may even be familiar with it once you hear it.
