    There is an all new 1301 TACTICAL MOD. 2 which can be spec'd with either a traditional or pistol grip stock and comes with some M-Lok added to the fore-end. These were my primary gripes with the previous models, but with a starting MSRP of $1,899 which would you choose? An older 1301, 1301 Mod 2, A300 Patrol, Benelli M4, or something else?

    Buddy I am a tactical shotgun aficionado of sorts, especially around where I live. I have them all! Semi auto, pump, lever, action, side-by-side, over and under, single shot, all of them tactical shotguns , AND I CAN RUN THEM EXTREMELY FAST. Now I’m not JM fast but I can run a shotgun trigger and I have to say, now I know you were just dumping a mag, but that was fast. You may not realize it but if you practice till you think you can take it anymore, thousands of rounds (get into reloading fast) we are talking, you could pretty dang accurate and fast. Shotguns are in a class all their own.

    I like my Langdon and beretta 1301. They're great semi auto shotguns. Even though they are great, though, I still have a soft spot for my benelli M4s.

      I ended up going for a gen2 Benelli M4 and sold this one. So far, my only regret is the M4 feels like a lot more recoil. My buddy's dad is retired SWAT and state police, said that the telescoping stocks have more felt recoil than the standard stocks, but I am trying to learn to manage recoil better before changing anything.

    Gen 2 are difetent of mod 2, mod 2 is the latest : improved forend with m lok, semi flat triger, pro carrier lifter and replaceable chockes. Correct me if i am wrong.

    Here's my opinion, your milage may vary. I spent over $1,600 for that shotgun and then a couple hundred more at GG&G by replacing all the plastic parts with aluminum. The plastic magazine cover, plastic barrel clamp and plastic sights were all removed for an aluminum front QD flashlight mount, aluminum rear QD mount, aluminum barrel clamp, aluminum bolt latch, aluminum magazine cover and all topped off with a Holosun 507C (green) with the donut of death reticle. Not going to lie, I love the shotgun but for that kind of money I wouldn't expect that much plastic.

      I agree. I know it was done for light weight and I know Beretta makes good guns, but a plastic gun doesn’t give me as much confidence as a metal gun. Spoiler alert… but this video was actually my farewell to this gun. It’s been replaced with a Benelli M4 with the adjustable stock and multirail. I’ll have to post some shooting on it soon, I just got it last week and there’s only a handful of people on UA-cam that have one.

    • @markwhite6782
      @markwhite6782 9 місяців тому +1

      I've heard the debates on UA-cam on which shotgun is king and what I discovered is it depends on what they bought. I don't have a Benelli but I'm not about to place ANY shotgun over it's 20 years service with the Marine Corps. When the Marines can't break something, it's good.@@WalterRitchey

      Back into 70s well serving in the US Army the M-16 had plastic parts and if I stand, correct, I was told it was made by Mattel toy company. They work for us and plastic has gone along way since then.

    Nice overview. I'm trying to decide between the Beretta A300UP or stepping up to the 1301 or 1301 Mod.2 with a pistol grip stock. I think I'd prefer a pistol grip stock and I'm thinking Beretta may eventually come out with an A300 UP with one. Anyway, I like the look and feel of the 1301, but the 1301 Mod.2 has some nice functional upgrades. Question...is it alright to run this shotgun without the barrel clamp?

    • @WalterRitchey
      @WalterRitchey  7 місяців тому

      I am biased, but installing my aftermarket pistol grip was a pain because it kept coming loose under recoil no matter what I tried. The instructions are written in universal terms, so if I was doing something wrong, it wasn’t clear. So if you REALLY want a pistol grip, the 1301 might be your best bet! The mod 2 has a lot of really nice upgrades too. If the pistol grip isn’t a must, you could save a lot of dough with the A300. I ran my 1301 without the barrel clamp, because it scuffs the finish.

      Thanks for that information. Yea the pistol so much more ergonomic. Plus the A300 has a buffer tube so no pistol grip. I have tendonitis so yea ergo is a thing.

    Just got the Mod 2 with pistol grip, would have got the M4, but my brother has one and after seeing all the mods to make it the way I wanted it and the weight I went with the 1301 mod 2. I will put a light and 1/3 cowitnessed sight grom GG&G with a HOLOSUN on it see how it runs. I do like the trigger on the 1301 mod 2 and the action is smooth and fast. overall, i would take the 1301 again if i had to pick a favorite.

    • @WalterRitchey
      @WalterRitchey  2 місяці тому +1

      It’s so hard to pick between the Mod 2 and M4 multirail! I actually parted with this older 1301 and bought a new M4. I think the 1301 recoiled much softer and the trigger was so crisp it was almost like a rifle. The Benelli is not like that. However, although they are both owned by Beretta, I still feel the build of the M4 is better. I just picked up a new Mod 2 in store with the factory Mesa Tactical pistol grip and noticed it too was canted. The same issue I had on this 1301! My OCD drives me crazy when the recoil causes the stock to cant and you can tell where it’s supposed to line up with the trigger guard, but it’s off just a bit… I know it’s a petty gripe, but it drove me crazy. Their model with a traditional stock attaches differently and doesn’t have that problem. If I did it over, maybe I’d do something like that or even try their option with the Chisel aftermarket stock.

      @@WalterRitchey That chisel mount looks cool i wonder if the recoil is substantially more with that small frame?... I opted not to get the chisel stock because I shoot left handed with a rifle and most folks are righty... with the chisel stock you are limited to one side or the other for the cheek riser... i want something that friends and family can use as well and have fun with.

    The ONLY downside to owning a 1301 is the amount of money I've spent on accessories and buckshot. Of all the guns I own, this is the most fun.

    Trade it for a new Mod 2 and I believe it comes in that color, with a pistol grip stock. Now save up and buy a new A300 ULTIMA PATROL.

    Nice. I've always wanted one. The Mod 2 looks good. Wondering if the pistol grip vs standard matters. Are you happy you went with the pistol grip model?

    • @WalterRitchey
      @WalterRitchey  9 місяців тому +2

      Beretta made their naming super confusing. Mine is a gen 2 that came out a couple years ago which is different than the Mod 2 that they just came out with. Unfortunately I filmed the video before I knew about the Mod 2, so sorry for lack of clarity!
      I had to add my pistol stock aftermarket and installation was a bit confusing. But I do love it. It feels good and the recoil is nothing with the nice limbsaver pad on there. I would definitely go for the Mod 2 model with the factory installed pistol grip!

  • @jimbob7332
    @jimbob7332 9 місяців тому

    the mesa stock did you have it coated like that? is the black some kind of padding on the riser?

    • @WalterRitchey
      @WalterRitchey  9 місяців тому

      Yes, I had the stock color matched to the factory green. Cerakote requires baking the finish to make it cure, but Duracoat doesn’t, so that’s what they used for this. The Mesa stock comes with a Limb Saver recoil pad and it’s seriously like magic! The recoil is like nothing with it.

    can you change the pistol grip with a different AR style grip?

    • @WalterRitchey
      @WalterRitchey  7 місяців тому

      You cannot, the Mesa Tactical stock and grip is all one piece. It’s very similar to what you see on Benelli that have a pistol grip.

    Can you get a rifled screw-in choke?

    • @WalterRitchey
      @WalterRitchey  9 місяців тому

      I want to say yes. I just did a search for Beretta Optima HP rifles chokes. Looks like a brand called Carson makes some. It sure that Beretta themselves makes them. But it takes Optima HP chokes. Keep in mind, the new mod 2, at least to my knowledge, is not threaded for chokes. So double check before buying one!

    • @WalterRitchey
      @WalterRitchey  9 місяців тому +1

      Instead of ignoring this, I will ask. What parts should I have been more descriptive? There are other videos on the 1301 that are almost half an hour long diving deeper, but I wanted to share more of an overview of my experience owning it. And yes, I lack shotgun training. I have been practicing more lately including the push pull method. The thunder ranch course is pricey, but I’ve been looking at other courses to get a baseline of training with a shotgun. Appreciate any constructive feedback.
