Also, I have an old RIGID plumbing tool that has a high-torque motor in it. It will do up to a 6" iron pipe. It's a beast that I found for like $50 at an estate sale. It will rip your arm off if you do it wrong. It comes with sawhorse like things and the part that threads the pipe is chained to it and uses the ground as the leverage point. I've used it on 4" pipe for a buddy that built an outdoor wood boiler. I live in NW Maine, up on a mountain. His boiler is a belt-fed contraption that happily feeds anything up to 4' long, so I suppose it handles up to 4.5'. It will break your bones and not care one bit about it.

You forgot to give us a follow up on the tcase shifter. Your dad had a great idea, be nice to verify. Always use cutting oil when threading and every once in awhile chip break. I have my dad's pipe threader and it was old when he had it. Back in the day he did the sprinkler system for the yard with galvanized pipe. He cut and threaded as needed. I am new to 4x4s but l have learned that If you don't rotate the tires often and don't use the 4 / 4 a lot. The front tire's cup. So when mine start cupping, I rotate them if it's just your front cupping.

When I was much younger the right front wheel on Dad's 1951 Chevy truck would not come off because the rim had rusted to the brake drum. The next time we hauled a load of horses to the mountains he had me back off the lug nuts one turn each as soon as we left the pavement for the washboard gravel road. After reading a bunch of comments and all of them can absolutely cause those issues, I’ve come to believe it’s cheap recycled China rubber mixed in. If we had a way to test the rubber density in the tires nowadays I bet it would be all over the place.
I have a 87' toyota 4x4 and had the same problem sculpting the tires.....took off my sway bar and it went away...But I have torsion bars and they are so hard I dont need the sway bar.....Ya got springs there....

Did you check the front wheel bearing on that wheel that's cupping? That can cause a wear pattern like that. So can an impact on that tire if it hit a pothole hard. Possibly a tie rod slightly bent? Just a couple of suggestions.
Cupping on the tires is usually caused by worn out shocks. I would bet that "new" 4x4 motor originated at some cheap, off-shore manufacturing facility. The splines shouldn't have stripped out that easily.
It's difficult to see what is wrong with that tyre ... it looks like they could be like evenly spaced "dents" in the tyre... here in South Africa we call that scolloping... not sure what you guys would call it... caused by a shot schock absorber in my experience.... it is the aliment that couses the cupping in tires . are local shop does a supperge job . i am on my 3 th set and no cupping mud tires , wild counter brand. this is my 2 th 4x4 and i work on farms for 20 years and none of the 4x4 on farm had truble with cupping after are aliment shop work on them. my coz. took a 3,000 mi camping trip with 30 ft. camper in a 4x4 ford and upon return took his truck for service and tire rotation and was tolt the front tires were not cupped at all but the back were in bad shap.

Shit ever new 4x4 I’ve own does it.
Also, I have an old RIGID plumbing tool that has a high-torque motor in it. It will do up to a 6" iron pipe. It's a beast that I found for like $50 at an estate sale.
It will rip your arm off if you do it wrong. It comes with sawhorse like things and the part that threads the pipe is chained to it and uses the ground as the leverage point.
I've used it on 4" pipe for a buddy that built an outdoor wood boiler. I live in NW Maine, up on a mountain. His boiler is a belt-fed contraption that happily feeds anything up to 4' long, so I suppose it handles up to 4.5'. It will break your bones and not care one bit about it.

Always use cutting oil when threading and every once in awhile chip break. I have my dad's pipe threader and it was old when he had it. Back in the day he did the sprinkler system for the yard with galvanized pipe. He cut and threaded as needed. Waaaaay before PVC was the normal.

Just a note, if you use cutting oil your threading die will last a lot longer and it will cut better threads.
I am new to 4x4s but l have learned that If you don't rotate the tires often and don't use the 4 / 4 a lot. The front tire's cup. So when mine start cupping, I rotate them if it's just your front cupping.

After reading a bunch of comments and all of them can absolutely cause those issues, I’ve come to believe it’s cheap recycled China rubber mixed in. If we had a way to test the rubber density in the tires nowadays I bet it would be all over the place.

Sometimes what you think is an easy job turns out to be the most difficult. The electric shifter is a good example.

Bad shocks usually cause the tires to cup like that basically the tire can't stay planted so it's bouncing cause the cupping effect

I have a 87' toyota 4x4 and had the same problem sculpting the tires.....took off my sway bar and it went away...But I have torsion bars and they are so hard I dont need the sway bar.....Ya got springs there....

We did get it fixed we lost audio on those clips so they didn’t make it in the video. sorry it made for a weird video
I've seen guys use videos with lost audio and do a "voice-over" just for the sake of continuity. It's not perfect, but it helps fill out the story.
You should invest in a set of internal pipe wrenches. $15 and up but will save time if you're doing this sort of pipe fix very often.

Did you check the front wheel bearing on that wheel that's cupping? That can cause a wear pattern like that. So can an impact on that tire if it hit a pothole hard. Possibly a tie rod slightly bent? Just a couple of suggestions.
worn shockers cause tyre cupping and light duty new shocks will do it with the heavier A/T tyres

Sometimes a worn shock can cause bad tire wear.
Cupping on the tires is usually caused by worn out shocks. I would bet that "new" 4x4 motor originated at some cheap, off-shore manufacturing facility. The splines shouldn't have stripped out that easily.
It's difficult to see what is wrong with that tyre ... it looks like they could be like evenly spaced "dents" in the tyre... here in South Africa we call that scolloping... not sure what you guys would call it... caused by a shot schock absorber in my experience.... Wishing you guys an awesome blessed 2025... keep the great videos comming...

Shocks causes tire wear like you pointed out.
One of the biggest causes of tire cupping is shocks ( and sometimes alignment )

A little cutting oil would help cutting those threads. And it would save your tool.

Just cut the bill off the bump cap and use the cranium part.

Check the balance on the tires, if you have not already. When they bounce like that, they are out of balance. Might just need cleaning.

it is the aliment that couses the cupping in tires . are local shop does a supperge job . i am on my 3 th set and no cupping mud tires , wild counter brand. this is my 2 th 4x4 and i work on farms for 20 years and none of the 4x4 on farm had truble with cupping after are aliment shop work on them. my coz. took a 3,000 mi camping trip with 30 ft. camper in a 4x4 ford and upon return took his truck for service and tire rotation and was tolt the front tires were not cupped at all but the back were in bad shap.
Worn ball joint, tie rod end, alignment and tire out of balance are the causes of worn tires
Rotate cupping tires crisscross to rear move rear straight forward!
