I came from the country(Taiwan) with rather dual party system like the U.S, it's fascinating to see how diverse the spectrum of opinions that German people have under such voting system! For me politics should be like this, about compromise and communication, not winner takes all.

This video showed little diversity of thought. It’s Berlin. It largely showed typical left wing group think with women and metrosexual men that support Die Grünen, Die Linke, and SPD with obligatory hate for AfD, with CDU and FDP also coming under Fire.

In Chile, where I'm from, the electoral system of Germany (Bundestagswahlrecht) is seen as an example of solid balance between representativeness and governability. In fact, as we find ourselves in the middle of a constitutional process that can change the entire organisation of the nation, we take a closer look at the german experience. Great video as always! Your "constitutional process" is managed by the left, they won't have any "closer" look at the german experience, they will only look to favor theirs and increase the burocracy
I also think it's a very good system but IMHO much depends on your country's political culture. I mean that what works in the German society may not work that well in another country

Ich bin ganz einverstanden mit der Frau die sagt dass das Bundeskanzleramt nicht länger als 8 Jahre dauern sollte, da man anders die Objektivität verliert.
How does the Bundesrat work? Because the members are elected indirectly and all states have a diferent number of members?
I think each state has a certain amount of "votes" and then they can send representatives to vote for them. As far as I know if the state "A" has 4 votes they can send 4 representatives or just know whose votes counts 4 times. But I'm not German so take it with a pinch of salt

The members of the Bundesrat are just delegates by the state governments. Depending on how many people live in each state, it gets between 3 and 6 votes. That doesn’t mean there have to be 3 members present though. One person is voting and all votes of a state need to be en bloc, so either in favor, against or abstain. You can’t split your vote as a state. and the delegates have to vote as instructed, they don’t have a Free Mandate to vote however they want. It’s a decision made beforehand by the respective state governments. Depending on whether a decision is impacting the finances of the German states and a few other factors, their vote is either necessary to get the specific legislation passed or only an advisory vote which can be overruled by the Bundestag.

That's the signature hand position that Merkel has when she rests them. It's become a symbol of her and her party, CDU/CSU
It refers to Angela Merkel (and thus the CDU) and her distinctive habit of holding her hands in a diamond shape.

Voting is actually quite simple here but (luckily) many people like to inform themselves what a certain party actually plans to do
@@josephina4678 Thank you. My understanding is that in Germany with the second part of the vote people vote for parties. Do people ever suggest this part of the vote should be broken up into smaller parts, e.g. 60% of that vote for one party, 20% for a 2nd party, and 20% for a 3rd party?
I haven’t heard this yet. But it’s very common that people split up their two votes between two parties to have a more diverse vote and not give one party too much power

Der Mann befürwortet zwar direkte Demokratie, aber lehnt Stimme für AfD, die das fordert, ab :)
Die AfD besteht aber nicht nur aus Ja zum Volksentscheid, sondern auch aus absolut idiotischen Positionen, wie z.B. Nein zum Klimaschutz (was Veyron nicht müde wird unter gefühlt der Hälfte der Kommentare zu posten (es wird nicht wahrer nur weil mans oft genug wiederholt, Veyron), als "vernunftorientierte Klimapolitik" ...das ist nicht mal mehr euphemistisch formuliert, sondern schlicht falsch: weiter von Vernunft könnte dieser Wahnsinn der AfD gar nicht entfernt sein. Aber hey, Hauptsache "Gender-Gaga" abwehren, das ist soooo wichtig, damit bloß nicht die wunderschöne deutsche Sprache verschandelt wird...z.B. durch Wörter wie "Gender-Gaga", also ernsthaft, peinlicher geht's doch nicht).
AfD ist unwählbar, es gibt genug andere Parteien die direkte Demokratie fordern und keine rechtspopulistischen Dödel sind.

The system with 5% is quite bad. 5% is way too high, plus the small parties don't get media exposure, even in the Offentlich rechtliche, which makes it almost impossible for them to reach 5%
imo, it is better to have them do that than one person having too much power which does not represent what people want. Remember that one person can be influenced much easier than more persons. What I find the best is the direct democracy as in Switzerland, where people decide and not politicians

Über die Bundesversammlung, die aus den Mitgliedern des Bundestages und Gesandten der Bundesländer besteht. Alle 5 Jahre findet das statt, ist aber auch somit keine direkte Wahl durch das Volk, was ich aber auch nicht schlecht finde.

Any Germans here want to comment on how representative Berlin politics are relative the whole of Germany? I spoke to a German friend from elsewhere in the country who suggested that Berliners are notorious for their (possibly performative) progressive politics. Is this the case? Vielen Dank :)
Well it depends on the region. Espacially the poorer regions in the east of germany (which used to belong to the DDR) vote a lot for AfD and also SPD. The cities and also young people are often voting for "Die Grünen" or other smaller parties like "Die Partei". In the south of germany the CDU and in Bavaria the CSU is extremly popular and the FDP is pretty consistent in almost every region espacially the richer (and a lot of young people currently) tend to vote for them. There is also "Die Linke" but they dont have a lot of voters anymore and are only very popular in regions of Brandenburg (near Berlin). The "Bundestagswahl" this year was also pretty close and most likely either CDU, Grüne and FDP will be the coalition which will govern or SPD, Grüne and FDP. If you want to see the exact data just look up "Bundestagswahl 2021". I hope I could help you :)
Comparing the average tendencies... in general the city-State of Berlin indeed leans far more to the left politically, than the rest of Germany.
(And - funfact, I wonder if there is any connection, lol - is also the only capital city of any european country that costs more than it adds to the country's GDP.)

Das Video war genial, aber ich konnte mich nicht auf das konzentrieren, was die Leute sagten, weil ich die ganze Zeit auf das Baby schaute. Ich habe noch nie in meinem Leben ein ruhigeres und süßeres Baby gesehen. Und nur diese Augen... Schau um 11:50 Uhr.
Die Menschen sagen immer dass sehr gut unterschiedene Meinungen gibt aber im Alltag sie versuchen dich zum Schweigen bringen. Das ist nicht gut.

Es scheint mir dass die Leute haben sehr politische “korrect” Antworten gegeben. Genau so wie hier in Amerika, Leute muessen aufpassen und oft erklaeren ihre Gedanken sehr vorsichtig und oft nicht oeffentlich sagen.

In Italien reden die Leute gerne von Politik, aber es ist immer "weiser" nicht zu genau zu sein, wenn man den Gesprächspartner nicht kennt. Ich frage mich auch, ob Rechtewähler haben nicht das Interview geantwortet, weil das Video "für Ausländern" war.

Der Mann der wenigen Worte aus Wirtschaft ist sehr toll und genau. Super!
Ich fand ihn eher schwach. Die Wirtschaft ist wichtig, das ist klar. Das vergisst auch insbesondere die Linkspartei immer gerne. Aber er hat ja kein ernsthaftes Argument gebracht. Wen wählt er? CDU. Wie sind die? Christlich-demokratisch. Was ist ihm am wichtigsten in der Politik: die Wirtschaft. Weil die WIrtschaft halt wichtig ist. Wen würde er nicht wählen: die Grünen. Warum? Weil das mit den Autos und Benzinpreisen nicht geht für die Wirtschaft. Das ist doch schon sehr dünn und wird der Komplexität, auch von wirtschaftspolitischen Fragestellungen überhaupt nicht gerecht. Und vor allem sollte er dann nicht die CDU wählen, die ja in diesem Bereich auch alles teurer machen will.

As a Canadian, I try to follow international politics as best I can but I admit that had I not known that Germany was currently governed by a right-wing party, I would have guessed that Germany was currently being led by a left-wing party.
CDU is more central right, but with Merkel everything was pretty alright
Right wing in Germany is different than right wing in Canada. The CDU has right wing elements, but if you put it up for vote in Canada I don't think they'd be called right wing. So finde ich, jedenfalls
I think only AfD would qualify as a right wing party.
the Social-Christians around the world are always center-right - However, Merkel has been doing some center-left/social-democrat politics in the last decade... that's why it looks like germany was managed by a left-wing party...

Ich komme aus Argentinien und bin heute wählen gegangen. Was mich am meisten am deutschen System reizt, ist zweifelsohne, dass Wählen gehen eine Option und keine Pflicht ist.

The obligation works as an equalizer ensuring that everyone votes, mainly the popular classes (or lower classes) It also makes it easier and more accessible: there is no registration and there are many voting centers

I live in a country dominated by the right wing (I'm talking about the fascists, not the liberals) and I can assure you that what they promise may sound very good, but they lead you to much greater confusion and division. Believing in populist ideas lowers a community's standard of living rather than increasing it, and no one will be happy with it in the end. Research even the most ridiculous ideas so that you approach the truth and make the right choice for your society and yourself. Racism based on race, religion and language against minorities living in it is a disaster for any country.

@@diegoyuiopFrom Turkey. It has been governed by the AKP (Islamist) and MHP (Nationalist) coalition for 20 years. Most of Turks do not support those who want to bring the liberal system in the West, but they elect representatives of the reactionary mentality in the Middle East. (for example, LDP(liberal) got 0.04 in the last election it was able to enter and was even banned from running after 2018) Still, I don't support leftists, like the Die Linke in Germany or HDP in Turkey. I will vote for those who fight for the liberal life.

Er hat den CDU Mann gefragt, welche Partei wäre für ihn unwählbar, und die Antwort war gut weil sie zu mehr Diskussion führen würden. Oder mindestens das glaube ich.
