- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- I'm diving into a nostalgic sewing adventure as I unbox a collection of 80s & 90s vintage sewing patterns! This video is a remix from 2023, now with extended commentary and even more details about each pattern. I'll be sharing my thoughts on the designs, discussing their sewability, and deciding-would I actually make these?

Loved this one! My favorite was the first pattern -- the Vogue blouse.
That’s so funny. Not my favorite in the box 🤣
yes more patterns
Will do!
Yes! Yes I'd love some boxes of "stuff" from the sewing room😅😅😅. Shoulder pads? No thank you!😅 Those were some pretty cool patterns! They are definitely coming back.
They are fun. I’m wondering if they will look better in more modern fabrics and better styling 🤣
I’m slightly obsessed with vintage patterns 😅. I love the Vogue 7013 top pattern. Good idea to sell or do a giveaway for those you don’t want, as someone mentioned (I should do the same, but it’s an effort, and I’d rather be sewing!).
It is a good idea to pass on the ones I don’t want. I’ll have to think of something 🤔
I always say yes to ANYTHING sewing, lol! I don’t care what condition either. I figure there’s something I will use or display in my sewing space. I love vintage patterns. I am always looking out for envelopes that I can display.
And the good thing is everyone who knows me knows I’ll take anything sewing related. My sister was talking to our Grandma’s neighbor and I just scored more free vintage patterns 🤣
Same
yes, more patterns. love your videos!!
Thanks! I’m going to be unboxing some more soon.
so kewel! loved that you would receive all that wonderful sewing stuff! how nice and exciting! yes, please open more boxes! thanks!
It was a lot of fun to find so many interesting patterns, especially some that I feel like sewing!
Yes please more pattern unboxings! I love vintage patterns.
Thanks DD! Glad you enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed your mystery pattern unboxing! Please do another one ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!! I’ll definitely do more.
Yes!!! Please do more!! I have a few of those you got. (Home ec in the late 70’s/early 80’s) I found a huge box of patterns at an estate sale few years ago and they asked what I would give for them to just get rid of them. All I had was a 5 and a big bill so I offered the 5 and they took it plus material and notions. Yours is better FREE!! I can see you in the “Collin’s” dress ! Power look for court in a jewel tone! Give grandma love and prayers!!
Yes the Joan Collins dress is on the list. I’m hoping I have fabric that will work. $5 for a huge box is quite a score too!
What a thrill from one seamstress to another!
Yes! I’m glad you enjoyed it as much as I did 😊
Hi Toni, It was fun looking at some of those patterns . Yes, please show us the rest of the patterns. You make it interesting. Please give grandma my best wishes and prayers for a quick recovery. ❤🙏
Definitely more unboxings in the future! Grandma is doing better today. I stopped by after church to see her and she was in good spirits. Hopefully she starts improving. ❤️
@ that’s great news, the coming unboxing and definitely that grandma is on the mend. ❤️🩹
Thanks Jeannie❤️
Great unboxing. I hope your friend Paul realizes he’s now a mega star in the sewing YT world for delivering these to Sew Sew Lounge. Love that stretch and sew tee you had. And, I’m a sucker for a tie-in-the-back dress (so very Holly Hobby). Thanks for taking us down memory lane, Mrs. Carrington 😅!
Actually I’m don’t think Paul even realizes 🤣 I’ll have to let him know. I’m glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane.
Yes, more please! I love seeing old patterns!
Coming soon!!
I enjoyed looking at the vintage patterns. I may have some of them.
Loving the Dynasty dress! You have to give some serious attitude with that one. What a fun box of goods to unload.
You are so right! Now I just need to find the right fabric 😉
I always say YES to anything sewing!! YES! This was a fantastic video!! I enjoyed the patterns. I was recently given a BabyLock 6150 old machine from a friend who's mother passed away. She gave it to me and I got it serviced and it works like new. This was such a fun video Toni! OMG Rabbit Hair Jersey LOL! I made New Look NL6602 a few months ago. I have a video on it. View C top. Wow! I absolutely love these vintage patterns. So fun and unique. I have a Dana Marie Dress pattern and I am not impressed with her instructions. I actually contacted Dana Marie for further details and spoke to her on the phone! Thanks for sharing Toni!
Thanks for watching Grace! I’m so glad you had fun with me.
More patterns please! You really made out! 👍🥰
Will do Nancy!! Thanks for watching ❤️
I love this type of video. The Cloth World box was very nostalgic for me. I would enjoy seeing the rest of this treasure trove. ❤
Thanks so much! I can’t wait to open the rest of the boxes!
OMG!! You are such a hoot! And bring such joy to my day! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep going through your "new" pattern stash! I also have patterns from the past and have actually made McCalls 4605 for my sister as an apron. She loved it!
Thanks Cathy! I’m glad you enjoyed my “new” pattern haul 🤣 It was a lot of fun discovering the treasures inside the box.
That was fun. Please do another box.
I will! I can’t wait to see what’s in the other boxes.
Yes please. I’d love to see all the patterns. 😎🇦🇺
Excellent. Glad to hear it 😊
Yes more vintage pattern unboxing! I can't wait to see what you make, and how they differ from patterns we can buy today. I have a small collection of vintage patterns from the 40s-80s I use for a display, but kept a few out to try (Esprit, for one). So much fun!
OMG I can only hope to find an ESPRIT pattern!! I loved their clothes back in the day. Thankfully there was an outlet to shop from because there was no way I would get them full price.
Omg! I was so excited to see the Cloth World box! I bought all my fabric there when I learned to sew in my high school home economics class (1970) and continued to sew throughout college. Really enjoyed seeing your haul! ❤
Thanks Diane! I miss Cloth World. I used to go regularly with Grandma back in the day. All that fabric under one roof was fantastic 😍
Yes 👍 yes 🙌 yes 👏
Glad you’re excited about future videos. I can’t wait to see what’s in the other boxes.
Yes, I do remember Units! They had a store at the mall and I can still picture in my mind the simple cotton knit modular pieces arranged by color. I owned a few pieces and loved them.
I remember the store in the mall too. I had to stand outside and look from the window. I remember their weird wooden mannequins.
Loved this! A walk down memory lane. Loved Multiples/Units. I had all kinds of colors I mixed and matched.
And it was so easy to mix and match. I kinda want to bring them back for that reason alone!
Really enjoyed looking at the patterns! It reminds me of going to the fabric store and looking at pattern books with my friend. Would really enjoy a peak at the other boxes! Thanks for sharing 😊.
Im so happy to know you had a good time too! I will definitely do an unboxing of the other boxes.
I really enjoyed this video!! I love seeing the older patterns especially from the 70's !! Farrah Fawcett's face and hair was heavily used especially on McCalls patterns!!!
Yes! And a lot of the 90s ones bear a sticking resemblance to Claudia Schiffer!
Wow saved the best for last! I love seeing vintage patterns gives me so many good ideas!!
Thanks for watching Marie! I find vintage patterns inspiring too. Especially when they are too small to use 😉
Hi Toni I loved looking at your retro patterns 😂 I think that last pattern McCalls 4605 is so similar to the pattern of my 1st ever sew in the 1970’s 😂😂 I made with a yellow cotton with a small Laura Ashley white flower print. I lived and died in that dress.
Yes to more unboxing of the “Stuff”
I never had Laura Ashley dresses either-they were too expensive. Glad that you were able to make one for yourself. More unboxings to come!
I can't wait to see the other boxes next!!
It’s going to be so fun!
I enjoyed this video. These patterns brought back memories.
I’m so glad you liked it!
Yes more please! ❤
Will do!
Yes! Fun to watch you go through the box of patterns! I would love to see you make the Stretch N Sew- I just got a collection of them myself.
I’m going to rummage through my stash and see which fabrics would work. It’s a super cute top.
Good to see you! I have a ton of old patterns. I’m sure I’ve outgrown all of them! How is your grandma doing? Hope and pray she’s doing so much better!
Grandma is a little better today. She was in good spirits and she eating better. All steps in the right direction, but there’s a long road to get her back to normal. Thank you for your continued prayers❤️
Yes more videos like this one
Will do! I’m looking forward to it😉
Love all those Vogue patterns!
They are fun aren’t they?
I would like to see more patterns, for sure.
There are a lot more boxes to explore!
OMG that CLOTH WORLD box. Totally for got about them
I just love it. SUCH a good logo.
I would love to see you take some of the older patterns with updates
Good idea Linda!
This was so fun! This happened to me last week, yes i took everything 😂
You just have to say YES to all the sewing things!!
Loved this! Remember many of them and actually made the floral oversized jacket pattern!
That’s so awesome!
I love the pattern unboxings... please more... that first Stretch n Sew i own... the dolman top... when it first came out I made it 2x... 1st in a red velour n then in a melon colored sweatshirting... still have both n the pattern even though I out grew them n the pattern it was an all time favorite... ev3n though I've sewn since I was 5 I recently decided to start grading n upsizing patterns the correct way... summer tops are on my radar... would you consider selling or making giveaways for you channel of any of the patterns you don't want ???
That dolman top looks super cute and versatile. Yes I’m considering selling some of the patterns I don’t want. I have to set up a shop to do that, so it’s a matter of finding the time.
Loved the stretch and sew 367, actually a TNT for me, the Nya tee is not needed, just shorten the dolman sleeve a bit, and the button up is comfy and my preference over the love notions Melody dolman. what fun! And that KwikSew pattern, they are known for unique construction details. Would love to see how they put a placket on, I’ve got a little collection of them, don’t have a polo type tee, with a placket like that.
There are so many fun patterns in the box, it’s hard to decide where to start.
Would love to see more!
Excellent!
Christine Jonson does still make patterns. I just bought one a few months ago.
Good to know. Thanks!
I loved Units. Yes they were pricy. The triangle is a gusset and allows for freer movement. Ethnic clothes are also made that way.
Good to know! I thought they were so cool and modern looking. I remember when the first popular girl wore them in 7th grade. That’s when I knew I’d never be part of that crowd. My mom would never pay those prices for clothes🤣
Definitely remember Multiples!! Wanted some so badly, but could not afford them.
I only got some random pieces that I found on clearance 😢
One of the first patterns I bought and made, vogue 7141 was part of a 1978 fall wardrobe spread in Vogue Pattern magazine. ❤
That’s awesome. I have some Vogue pattern magazines from the 90s.
Fun unboxing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Let’s see all the patterns!
I like the way you think 😉
(linda) omg look at the price on the dynesty one. $3-something, what a difference to today will never see those prices again! lol What a nice surprise for you all these patterns
You are so right Linda. The pattern prices from back in the day are staggering. Total bargain! Plus Paul’s mom and I are in the same pattern size range-total win!
Are the triangular pieces in the armpits: those are gussets to allow arm/shoulder movement without pulling the whole shirt up. You see that sort of construction in pre-1850 clothing.
Awesome. Thanks for letting me know.
I'd love to see more! How's Nana?
Physically Grandma is doing better, but she’s having a hard time mentally. Thanks for asking❤️
@@SewSewLounge ❤️I get that. Please give her a hug from a stranger 😊
I will ❤️
I’m curious about the Stretch And Sew pattern. I would like to see the instructions. I remember that stretch and sew method was big when I was a kid. It was look at like Vodou sewing, people were terrified at first 😆
That’s so funny! This was my first time seeing them. Glad there were some in mystery box. Maybe there will be more!
More unboxings pls
Will do!
Yes always, that's been happening over 40 years. Yeah a big stash
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Very Easy Vogue patterns are very hard! I’d have gone on a date with Don Johnson back in the day, but you didn’t want to be his girlfriend on the show because they always tragically died, lol. I love 70s patterns, I guess because my early teen years were the 70s. Something I’ve noticed is that the clothing itself doesn’t sometimes date a pattern, it’s the hair and accessories.
Yes they are hard! Miami Vice was another show I wasn’t allowed to watch, unless I was at a friend’s house. I didn’t realize his girlfriends all died!!
Random question but do you have a video or recommend some patterns to sew to wear to the Rodeo?
I can make that video since I’m planning to go to the Houston rodeo in March! I have a denim dress that I’m planning to sew and I’ve got some other western style patterns that I can recommend 🤠
@ yay! Would love some ideas!
I assume there are so many elastic waist pants patterns bc they are easier. *But* my mom sewed, and all her pants were full elastic waist. So I have it in my head that elastic pants are for old people (obv older than me, bc I am 58), and I try to avoid those.
Also, I really like that pinafore pattern for my kid.
I feel the same way about elastic pants🤣
I am curious what you have in your next box.
Me too! We will find out together.
My mom was a manager at Cloth World in Phoenix in the mid to late 80s
I hope she has a huge fabric stash (or you do) to prove it. I couldn’t ever work at a fabric store-I’d spend my entire paycheck there🤣
I miss the 80’s florals.
I miss the geometric prints-more my style.
When you were born, I had already been sewing for seven years. And none of my peers sewed; they were moving away from "home arts". As much as it hurts to hear patterns I used being called vintage, I guess it's accurate. Unfortunately, I recycled my old patterns because they were all cut out and used, and at the time, not many younger women were sewing.
Thanks for sharing your story 😊
You know, I really love having most of my pattern collection as PDFs and not having to store them, but I lament that you can't pass them down the same way.
I just think it’s so fun to see the art and pattern instructions in person 😍
I just had to look up Christine Johnson and it looks like she made patterns up until 2022.
Nice!
Units!! Totally forgot them
It’s funny that they were such a thing in the 80s and then poof they disappeared.
Jo-Anne aquired Cloth World. Cloth World didn’t become Jo-Ann 😁
Add that to the list of things Joann’s screwed up.
Krystal Carrington 😂
Alexis was my favorite. Probably because she was a brunette like me 😉
Gussets in the arm syce
Got it! Thanks 😊
1994 jo-ann purchased cloth world chain
Cloth world never should have sold out!
Oh my, I have a few of those patterns😂 All packed up to donate to animal rescue. I just find it is better to make my own so I know they fit well. 80s were my teen years and I believe the WORST decade in the history of fashion - EVER! The photos from those days make me cringe!
I was in elementary and junior high for the 80s. I remember the cool kids wearing these styles and wanting to be like them.
Oh yes more more more lol
You can count on it Brenda 😉
