I want to make a pair of those wide-legged 30s ones in a silky satin and waft around my home like Jean Harlow (though not sure what the dogs would make of it! 😂) Thank you very much Arietta ❤️❤️🥰🥰

I watched a recent movie about a lady detective named Jane played by Jodie Sweetin of Full House fame. Opening scene she was wearing a floral satin 2 piece. I kept thinking she's wearing pajamas and entertaining a guest! The pandemic had us return to a lot more comfortable clothing so I think it's carried over.

I think you’re right! And the pajamas of the 20s and 30s show we can look glamorous and be comfortable at the same time. Now you say floral satin 2 piece I’m beginning to think I need a pair of glamorous pjs like that! Thank you for watching 💐

Really interesting video. In the 70's my Gran often sewed my PJ's and Nightys . I loved them. She was a seamstress by trade and plied her needle for years and all through the second world war. I loved rummaging through her patterns and buttons. I'm lucky enough to have been given her button box too. Treasures.
I love your thrifty rabbit PJs! And your doggies x

How wonderful to have had a Gran who was a professional seamstress through the second world war and who sewed for you as a child too. She would be so pleased to know you still treasure her button box. (I’m obsessed with vintage buttons!) My mother sewed my dresses as a child while my gran knitted. I love how sewing and knitting connect us to our mothers and grandmothers. Thank you for loving my rabbit PJs - they’re very comforting to wear. As for the doggies, they are never more than a few inches away! 💐x

@Samanthalovestosew what a lovely reply. Thank you, we are so connected to our Mums and Grans. And I'm surrounded by my two dogs as I type this. Best wishes x

I suppose I started watching not knowing what to expect, what will be interesting about pyjamas? Well you made it interesting. 19 minutes just flew by. Everything has a history and a story behind it. May be your mantra should be practical with style? You are very practical but you are so stylish with it too Samantha. I like decent and nice people and this is why I return to watch your UA-cam channel you combine this with looking rather lovely too.

It’s very valiant of you to watch despite the uncertainty of there being anything fascinating about pyjamas!! But seriously it’s true, the history of fashion is really a glimpse into the lives of people, our parents, grandparents and great grandparents. It makes me feel connected to them. I love the mantra ‘practical with style’ and shall remember it. I’m very pleased to have such a kind, encouraging and thoughtful viewer too!

Lovely informative video, Samantha. It is a pleasure to be featured with you. You did such a wonderful job on your pyjamas. I think I will finally tackle the Haslam system this summer with some silk 30s pyjamas.

Another super interesting video, looking at the styles and vintage patterns, with those wonderful film clips and vintage music. I love the stylish pyjamas you have made, also the beautiful art deco vintage pair. In particular, I thought the colourful hand stitched buttonholes were a lovely detail to add. I felt transported to another era, and learned so much from you Samantha, thank you.

Thank you very much, it’s so morale boosting to hear you enjoyed it! I found some more lovely film clips I longed to add but copyright was my frustration for this video. Still I did get the wonderful Claudette Colbert, Carole Lombard and Marlene Dietrich clips. How I would have loved to add Jean Harlow and Katharine Hepburn though! The hand stitched buttonholes really didn’t take very long and were rather relaxing to do in front of the telly so I might do them more often! 💐

    Hi Samantha!
I love your color blocked pajamas with the bunny appliques. So cute!
I love all the attention to detail in these pajamas. The vintage rabbit embroideries are adorable!
I really need to make pajamas like these too. 🩷

Hi Laura! Thank you very much 🐰 I suspect the vintage rabbit embroideries were meant for children 😆 but I couldn’t resist them. I love vintage children’s fabric and buttons. I’m escaping into a kind of second childhood! I cut out the bunny appliqués on the color blocked pajamas freehand. They started out larger but got trimmed down more and more till they resembled rabbits!! ❤️🐰

Thank you so much 💐 I sewed lots from vintage patterns last year and the thing I wore most was a nightie. I suspect the pajamas are going to become old friends too! I’ve decided I need some glamorous wide-legged 30s ones to complete my collection. Happy pajama sewing and thank you for your encouragement!

Watching this in my flannel nightgown with my furry friend stretched out beside me. My mother was a pajama girl and I had great difficulty trying to get her to understand that I wasn't. I want my flannel to the floor and full so I can turtle up into it and keep my feet warm. I cannot sleep with cold feet.

Oh I’m with you on the cold feet (especially having grown up in a draughty large unheated house in which bedsheets were icy cold!) I love the description of turtling up in your flannel nightgown so that you’re cocooned in it and - of course! - a furry friend next to you.

Adore your pajamas with the embroidered breast pocket! Would love a pair of those. And I would definitely wear the top out over a pair of highwaisted jeans.
    Also adore the puppies ❤

Thank you very much! I know women made their husbands’ pajama tops into blouses too! I’m so pleased you like the embroidered bunnies on the breast pocket of the cotton pjs. I forgot to say they were made from vintage cotton fabric from the 1950s. I could have talked for another half an hour 😆 Thank you so much for your support. The puppies are very pleased you think they’re adorable too! ❤️
