I watched this on the day Henry Aaron died but I was able to meet him in 1974. His speech perfectly embodied who he was and for all he suffered, not a trace of bitterness was heard in that speech.
Henry I'm fortunate to have grown up during your era. Mr. Aaron paved the way for many African- American ballplayers here in Detroit. Larry Doby, Jake Wood, Gates Brown and Willie Horton to name a few.
Humble and inspiring words from this gentleman athlete. But there is no doubt he worked his ass off every single day to be the best all around baseball player. Tremendous physical exertion. An incredible spirit.
Hank is truly a role model for the youth of today. My family and myself watch this regularly and all agree that Hank should have entered politics and he would have surely become President of the USA.
Henry's birthday was Feb. 5th...one day ahead of the Babe's. Also, Henry also tied Willie McCovey for the NL home run title. Each wore #44. Each hit 44. And I used to go to Shea Stadium specifically to watch both guys as a kid.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Aaron may be the home run king. But he also had over 3,900 hits. Mr. Aaron is a stunning man. His class is something to be strived for.
I was an 18 year old in 1982, It was taught that Henry Aaron, was class all the way watched him break the record at 9. Greatest offensive player in MLB history. Rest Easy Sir.
I was 16 when he launched number 715, live on NBC, April 1974. It was a priviledge to watch, and I later had a giant poster of the moment on my wall. Henry Louis Aaron!
There's a video of the show, what's my secret, they had a guess whose secret was he was either in the theater when Lincoln was shot or he saw John Booth get shot, something regarding the assassination of Lincoln.
Powerful words from Hammering Hank: "A man's ability is only limited by his lack of opportunity." R.I.P.
Nice to see his mother and father there in the crowd.
Oh that the leaders of this country had the class, honesty, and integrity that this man has always had.
Without a doubt the greatest home run hitter of all time.
Hank was possibly the most consistently greatest superstar ever.
An American hero of high dignity. Henry Aaron is baseball royalty. His long and winding road has been glorious.
The titan of baseball

RIP to the legend
I now understand why Pete Rose wants this honor. It's the true pinnacle of professional baseball.
There's class, and then there is Rose.
Not a baseball fan, but I remember when he broke Babe Ruth's record, he was called names and even received death threats.
Satan's children always do that..
He was also cheered by millions.
We won out.
RIP
The man...
Stan
RIP, Henry. The REAL home run king.
Here's a bit of baseball trivia: What do Henry Aaron and Babe Ruth have in common? Neither man ever took steroids.
Amen!
Oh I wish I could’ve turned 18 years old or something in 1980 I would’ve loved to watched this live

What about Frank Robinson?
Crazy to see a man who was born in 1874… I wonder if kids today who follow baseball look at Hank Aaron like the legend he was
There's a video of the show, what's my secret, they had a guess whose secret was he was either in the theater when Lincoln was shot or he saw John Booth get shot, something regarding the assassination of Lincoln.
Unfortunately he had to make it about Race. Willie Mays did none of that - Mays was the better of the two and Willie was always a Class Act.
Hank Aaron: Black conservative. Through and through.
He was a great American.
That's all anyone needs to know.

There are many black conservatives and they are viciously attacked by the socialist dregs in our debauched society.
