    I just put one in this fall. You've given me hope that I'll eventully have a harvest. I'm tired of "store bought" ones that are expensive and often bitter and disappointing! Thanks for the great videos!

    I am so glad you have shown the propper way to open a pomegranate. I wouldn’t have known better as I have only squeezed it like an orange cutting it halfway through being covered in red dots from splashing. I have put three little pomegranates in my heated polytunnel hoping to get a harvest one day. Thanks for this video.

    My favorite fruit. I have 4 types in pots but have not had any luck with fruit yet...its been 6years...they just wont flower for me in a pot. I'm in central Florida 9b. Also I just score a line around the middle and pull apart the two halves and then just hit the back of each back with a wooden spoon and all the seeds fall out...done in 2mins.

      🚫 You really need to buy established plants at least a year or more old, if you want fruit later on. Years ago I grew a pomegranate bush from a seed I'd gotten from a store-bought fruit that was one of the tastiest I'd ever had. It was in like 2004, and buying pomegranates was a crapshoot for MANY years in northeastern USA. I'd say that only 1 in 4 pomegranates was of very good quality. The rest were either overly sour, overly ripe, or partially filled with disgusting brown, rotten arils inside, etc. But it does seem that theyve "improved" the fruit in the past year or 2. 😉👍
      👉 Anyway, back on topic, in 2004 I tried sprouting like 200+ seeds, with a success rate of only maybe 1 in 8 seeds that sprouted. So I carefully planted about 25-30 germinated seeds into light potting soil. However, all but 1 ended up growing too tall and skinny, and fell over and broke by the time they reached 5-6 inches!. Only 1 survived and grew into a skinny, multi-stemmed, 4 foot tall bush that I kept in a large pot, since it required being taken inside my home during winter. It never produced fruit as a result, but it lasted several years, and was a sorta fun experience.

    Aloha! I live in zone 12A in Hawaii, but although I can sometimes get pomegranates at the farmers market, they are kind of terrible, the outsides and the insides barely pink at all, mostly white, juicy but not sweet or flavorful. Just mild and bleh. In comparison, I've never had one from the store i didn't like. Do you think they are not ripe enough when picked, or could it be just a variety I don't like? Do you happen to know of a variety that is nice and red and likes Hawaii? If not, no worries, thank you for the great video, I'm happy to see the way you have your tree set up!

    Hi Dan. When is the best time to plant a pomegranate? I live in zone 9b.

    • @plantabundance
      @plantabundance  4 роки тому

      Late Winter-Early Spring. Preferably when the plant is still dormant (although not necessary). Pomegranate trees are deciduous so dormant trees will not have leafed out. Most garden centers will have them in stock at that time. Cheers!
