I followed your trimming video and we have over 30 blooms this year. I didn’t know they had made and female flowers I will pay more attention tomorrow when I use my paint brush. Thank you
Dan, I got a lot out of this teaching. Like I've never heard anyone mention we can store our pomegranate fruit! Like, that's so cool!🙂 And I've never heard of hand pollinating ones flowers. I'm going to take Alice's advice on the white pomegranate being the best and add one to our food garden.🙂 Thanks for all the advice.🙂 You're a really good teacher.
Love poms, and enjoyed the tour. I planted 2 this spring--cold hardy cultivars. They do not do great here in zone 7, and they can not be planted directly in my heavy clay. The late 4/15 freeze zapped most of my stone fruit, persimmon and some berries even though many were covered--bummer. Have fun in your food forest. Chow
Beautiful green paradise garden you got Dave. Just a tip: I use a miswak stick as a brush for different garden tasks. It is natural, just a stick out of a Salvador Persica tree, and, it is the best brush ever, even for teeth :) Now Idk if that can be found where you're at but it is totally having that essential tree in the garden. I also use it as a very strong fertiliser and mineraliser for the soil, because it contains a ton of mineras and vital element.
The male flowers lack a stigma. But the “female” flowers have male and female parts. Not quite sure what the male flowers really are for. This summer I had only “female” flowers for the first few weeks. Every one of them was pollinated and produced fruit ANYWAY. (These were mostly on my Parfianka which was ahead of my Wonderful and had more flowers. The pollen could have come from the “female” flowers of either tree, though, since the Wonderful did have one or two “female” flowers during that time. I made no effort to hand pollinate, anyway.)
You ended talking in front of a pineapple guava, the blossom peddles are so delicious and sweet. I learned that from the birds, they were eating the peddles so I tried them, of they are good.
we purchased two Wonderful pomegranate bushes this spring. They have different foliage, one has a lighter colored thin leafed foliage, the other bush has darker and thicker but more slender leafed foliage. They haven't flowered yet.. Excited to see if there is a difference in the fruit
Thankyou for this great video, and explaining the difference in male and female flowers. I have a young pomegranate bush that produced 3 male flowers, I dont know its variety, I will try to get Wonderful variety, although it's hard to find in the UK.
what time of year is the best to grow them? when to plant? im state of arizona i see these all over the place but dont know much about them. how often do i water & how?
Thank you very much for your most informative information on pomegranate trees. I was not aware of female versus male flowers and cross pollination. But her we are fully psyched up about all that
Thank you for this video... I have couple tree and I noticed flowers and watch it to become fruit but the fruit never seen mature or ripe fruits so far! In addition, during my travel to Jeruzalem they have vendor along the trees making fresh pomegranate juice and it’s very delicious!
I live in south florida and I need info on what types of soils to use while planting in the yard. I have to dig a hole in sandy soil and pour in soils. Does it like acidic soil, etc ..? Thanks!!
I got 5 2-3 ft volunteers/saplings from a neighbor who dug them up for me. the roots were tuberous and may have connected underground to one another. Not much root was obtained in struggle to get them out. She didn't know which variety they are. Are these just suckers? if I plant them do you think they will survive and or bear fruit? Any way to determine variety at this point. (Neighbor's neighbor had a P. tree which they recently removed.)
Thank you for the hand pollinating tip. I have had fantastic luck with an animal hair paintbrush (watercolors) or, a cheap electric toothbrush. WARNING: Using the elec brush on tomatoes, tomatillos, can produce more fruit than you have plans for.
How do you know which variety are mainly male or female. I have a white and wanted to get the Parfinka (sp) but do not want another one that is mainly male.
Hi. I'm in South Africa. Now is late autumn just few days before winter. Zone 9b goes sometime to -4C but very few days. Day time temperatures in 20s. My pomegranate is full of flowers and young fruits. That tree start late flowering and then in the middle of summer in to the winter he start flowering like crazy. tree is in his 4th year. What should I do to force tree to start flowering in spring?
My neighbor has a pomegranate that I doubt they prune. It's really overgrown into my walkway and we can barely get to our garbage cans. I don't want to damage the tree as we are able to pick some on our side. There is a very thick branch hanging down that needs to be trimmed, but I hope I can trim the smaller branches to lessen the weight on it. Are you able to advise? Thanks for the videos!
My pomegranate has brown tips on its yellowing leaves. Its fruited only once with tiny pomegranates that drop off after awhile. I've planted it in a full sun position, however I water it frequently as there are other bushes around it that need water. My question to you, is should I move it away from the rest of the garden to a place on its own, so I can fertilize it and let it dry out more frequently? Thankyou Jo from New Zealand 🇳🇿
😢hi, Dan. My name is Lal, from Dbn. S A. I loved ur video, I have a pom in my back yard, but it is growing very bushy, but not gaining height, what is the best feed and what manure can I use , please. Thank you.
Thank you! You showed how to hand pollinate the Wonderful variety--the one with primarily female flowers. I take it then that the male flowers on the white variety--Is it Eversweet?--will not yield fruit? Is that why the Wonderful's fruit is the predominant commercial variety? Is there anyway to get the white variety to generate more female flowers other than by hybridizing?
I planted a small tree last year. How long does it take to get any size on it and bear fruit? I just noticed the price of Pom. juice in the store...lol
Good info. I have a pom tree and looks to be from the Male type. For the last 2 years only it produced 1-2 fruits. Are we sure that a pom tree either be M or F and how to know that from early stage without waiting till fruit/flower time. Thx!
Hi. I was wondering if you can grow pomegranate trees from seed that will bear fruit true to seed. Or maybe I should ask, where did you acquire your trees since they seem to be such healthy trees. Thanks with your help on this topic. Definitely subscribed! Jesus bless.
I have the Parfianka variety, it' has soft seeds which you can eat. It only had 2 fruits last year because it was only planted in the spring. This year there were 3 flower on it but they all fell off 😥. Do they flower again? I think I read somewhere that they can flower more than once per year.
They flower depending on temperature and daylight hours. In some climates, I've heard that they'll bloom up to 3 times a year while I live in Vancouver, BC where they bloom once a year in late July. The flowers tend to fall off when there's too much water or it's just because the tree isn't mature yet which takes 3-4 years. Good luck!
Wonderful is NOT winter hardy in zone 7b or colder! I tried the one named Wonderful many times for 25 years. Go with a different variety if you live in an area that gets below 15 f. I have found a few other named varieties that do survive cold without freezing to the ground every winter. I wasted too much time ( 2&1/2 decades) on Wonderful.
Hi. How should I know if it’s a male or female I bought a plant this year is April it didn’t had flowers it’s growing but not flowers yet how long do they take to bloom ? Thank you 😊
Pomegranate is grown in the Caribbean and it doesn't lose it leaves, maybe they have adjusted in America. My question is how long does it take before it starts to flower, because I've had one for three years and no flowers.
Thank you! You hit my problem right over the head. I believe I have two most 'male' Wonderfuls. And, while it's been great, listening to the disco and rave music, I'm getting tired of slipping in the lube and all the plant condoms all over the ground. I need to bring in a "Sweet" variety, as the white doesn't interest me. Point being, diversify! I've been giving them plenty of nutrients, the trees are beautiful but, second year now going on no fruit. Thanks for this.
You are great, very informative, humble, and knowledgeable. I am Persian(Great IRAN)and growing pomegranates for years in the US, but I learn a lot from you. I got my first plant directly from Great IRAN and propagated it and pass it to my friends within the last 25 years. If you are interested I will send you one! Thank you and Warm Regards.

Absolutely amazing.. 👍👍🌸🌿🌿🌿🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸👌
Our Salavatski Pom just started waking up in zone 6b. Not sure we'll get fruit due to our season length. At least they're pretty shrubs.

So any suggestion for a pomegranate that isn't flowering? We've only had 3 or 4 flowers this year.

I sometimes use a little pipe cleaner for my squash.
Can they grow in Ghana

Can we combine starter pom trees male and female in one pot to become one so it gets big before we put it in the ground?

Hello. Thank you for your values tips .🙋♀️🌹🌹
👋 Can it plant in the Chicago?

Can you tell if it's white Pomegranate before it fruits
My pomogranate fruit have no sweet .
What is the solution?

Interest to know what varieties have you found worked for zone 7b?
OBVIOUSLY YOU DID SOMETHING WRONG. THE WONDERFUL POMEGRANATE IS THE EASIEST OF ALL TO GROW. YOU PROBABLY MADE A MISTAKE WHEN FERTILIZING.
I grow from seed, bought the fruit from Walmart I'm in 7b (I think its Wonderful) Georgia and it comes back every year
can we grow it from seed
From seeds are these self polinating? Thank you
Hi sir. How far should we plant Pomegranate tree from each other?
Good video 📸
Whats a roof celler?
First time I see the flowers or the tree; I grew up in a mining town full of sulfer.
Did you graph your pomegranates?
Can pomegranate be grown in a green house?
What white beauty do you have? I have Ohio sweet and anar yazd. They both produce well--very few male flowers.
Which zone is he in? My salavatski comes back in late April and my dwarf red comes back in early-mid May and both flower in late July.
I think he is in zone 9
I am looming to start a pomegranate farm. Anyone knows where i can get seedlings?
Pls tell me where to buy plant
Store them for up to seven months thank you
Hi. How should I know if it’s a male or female I bought a plant this year is April it didn’t had flowers it’s growing but not flowers yet how long do they take to bloom ? Thank you 😊
It is hot in California today.
Would this survive in Zone 7?
Could this grow in Ontario, Canada
what about fertilizer ? Is it too late ? I have some trees I started from seeds and no flowers.
