- Changing the oil on a Kawasaki Mean Streak is not that difficult if you follow the steps in this video. I did leave one thing out, like mentioned in the video, because I didn't need to perform it at the time of this oil change. Let me know in the comments down below if you have any questions. I have other mean streak videos on my channel, please subscribe!

good video, our bikes are becoming very scarce out there these day. One tip , you said to clean the oil screen every other oil change. I would recommend doing it every time, not only can it just be beneficial if theres any filing on the screen but its the lowest point on the oil pan , so drain your oil from the screen vs the oil drain plug which you actually wont get all of the oil out unless you straighten your bike up while dumping the oil. I havent take my drain plug out in YEARS because draining it from the screen is just the best way to do it.
Thanks the the useful information Ric. I will definitely consider doing this next time and maybe making an updated video. Draining the oil through the screen seems to be a unique thing for the meanie, I've never seen or heard of doing this on another manufactures bike.
@@Navigator_Nick Ha Me either, once I learned about it many years ago , it because the standard for my oil changes. the first time I pulled out the screen after years of owning it, it was FILLED with junk. My Garage is usually the "shop" where all the fellas bring their bikes to work on. every time I show them they look at me like WTF is that , then the next comment is always. wow thats a good idea , why dont all bikes have that LOL
I just changed mine on my 03 vulcan 1600 classic, bought it new and never knew this. Mine was in there for 18 years and was clean as a whistle. I use Amsoil BTW.
Nice video. "Unloosen the oil cap" would be tightening the oil cap. 🙂 Thank you for the reminder about cleaning the oil screen. The 2002 mean streak is a great bike too!
Great video. I have exactly the same motorcycle and just wanted to start my own servicing on it. I hope for more videos on how to maintain Mean Streak.
Thank you! Yes, I will be putting out more videos on maintenance and modifications to the mean streak in the next couple of weeks. Please subscribe to my channel and hit the bell for notifications.
Great and clear video, thank you.
Just a question, I can't find the video of the oil scren cleaning. Can you please share to us?
Should have taken the oil filler cap off before you took the drain plug out so the oil drains faster
Thanks for the tip, I will do that next time. Honestly, I wasn't in a hurry and by the time I had the oil unpackaged and dropped oil in the new filter, it was done draining.
Very good video👍🏻
Thank you @ManCave Mayhem!
He keeps saying left side of the motor but it’s on the right side. Am I crazy? I have a VN900, that one has the filler on the left. But the MeanStreak has it on the right. Either way the vid did help but it really through me off.
Thanks. 👍
Beautiful bike I have a 2008 mean streak!
Quick question when filling up oil filter how much should you put? Also after do you still put 3 quarts. What’s the total amount of oil it takes. Thanks! 👍🏽
3 quarts correct
how did you put the oil filter on in a horizontal position if you filled it with oil? Wouldn't it run out? At least 1/2 of it before you got it to seal against the engine?
Good question. I didn't fill the entire oil filter up with oil like you would when changing the oil on your car. I did oil the rim and filled it about half way so it wouldn't all leak out when installing it. Use your best judgment when filling the oil filter.
Brother its the same with a 2007 vulcan mean streak??
Not bad, you put way too much oil into the new filter, you only need to wet-lube the rubber gasket, and the fill plug should be removed first thing to allow for easier draining.
More oil in the filter is better than less, no? I will update my notes about the drain plug. Thanks!
Nick Sylvester you don’t need to do that, because oil goes straight through valve and not filtering on cold start so it is going to be filled in seconds, this one of the myths with that oil filling stuff...
what are the sores of the engine vn1500?
The high-end is not the greatest. It loses power higher in the RPM range. Its got a ton of low-end torque but once up to 70mph, it falls off.
Does the mean streak require conventional or synthetic? I checked the owners and service manual and neither specify whether it needs conventional or synthetic. Please help
I used synthetic as that’s my preference and what I’ve read from other owners
@@Navigator_Nick you haven't had any trouble with synthetic? No clutch issues, or oil leaks? This will be the first time I use synthetic, and everyone is telling me not to use it lol. But I want to use it since I do a lot of long distance rides
@@dl2.504B I've used synthetic in mine since new in '05. I've never had any leaking issues. Some Harley owners I know have issues with synthetic leaking though.
@@anchovypudding lol it's not leaking because of synthetic oil, it's leaking because it's a Harley!
@@TheAdamame LOL - I forgot I even made this comment. And 3 months later I traded the Streak on a Harley....
If we are just adding oil how much do we add I do not see a place to check level
There's a small circular glass window on the bottom right of the crankcase. Stand the bike upright and check that the level is between the min/max lines.
Can I get the filter at Walmart?
I believe that is where I got mine!
Love my bike it's a bad assss som bieech
Top speed of the meanstreak?
Depends on aftermarket parts. With different exhaust, PCIII, and ram air intake... ~130mph...

No need to fill the filter with oil
