Lol @ the cat. Did you use the manual spec for the oil quantity with a filter change? If not you will have to top up the oil once the engine is run and the new filter fills up.
+Bikers Quest dammit! Always something I forget in these videos. The frustrating thing is you can't edit and republish like a blog post or something. I'll pin your comment when I'm next at my laptop! Thanks BQ 🙌
Thanks for this video! The owner's manual helps a bit, but actually watching someone do it and following along is far easier to understand. Did my first ever oil change today on my er6n thanks to your help!
Outstanding video Bob. Excellent and quick details moving from one job to the next. Love Sneezy the cat!
Hey MotoBob, great video. Don't have a clue about motors, cars or bikes, followed your instructions and got it done in 10 mins. First big bike and first bit of servicing. Spark plugs next, will follow your other post on that too. Cheers Bob.
Nice one Sam - glad it was useful. I'm figuring a lot of this out as I go too, but my dad is a really experienced biker and has been servicing his own bikes since he was a lad, so I usually give him a ring for some advice before I make my vids.
A lot of people fill the oil filter with a little oil, 25-50%(don't fill it full), just to minimise those few seconds when starting the engine and oil initially flows round the engine. It's personal preference tho, I doubt many owners handbooks or Haynes manuals say to do this, but it can't hurt at all to fill it with a little oil, like the old oil filter had when it was removed.
I fully agree with that . How many main dealers do that or care ?
4:02, you're never too old to giggle at a fart.
Great video by the way, I'll be doing this in a week or so, so your video was a great refresher. I'll try get one of those magnetic tip drain plug bolts too.
+Greg Smith hahah 💩 yeah the magnetic bolt seems like a good idea. I just searched eBay for it and it seems like they're available for most bikes
Yeah I've got the 09 ER6N, found the plug on eBay, I just placed my order. 74 bucks, so 4 and a half "quid", with free delivery to SA. This just means I'm gonna have to wait a month before I do my oil change :)
Another tips is to put some tinfoil on your exhaust so it doesn’t get oil on it.
2:05 you can put some paper on the exhaust tubes :)
nice .. thank you for video .. i just bought filter and oil ,, but I never did this before .. so better to ensure my self I am on the correct way :)
What size socket is the drain plug? I just picked up a 2009 er6n and I pretty much have to buy a set of tools so I can work on it. Thanks for the upload!
Sorry can’t remember - it might vary from bolt to bolt so perhaps best to measure yours. But I didn’t have to buy a specific socket for it - I just used one from my basic set. Good luck!
Just a tip, on those castrol bottles, if you pull up on the red screw on lid, the little spout thing pulls up so it makes it hell of alot easier to fill up. Included a link to a photo of what I mean :D Oh an you do have a head under that hat ;)

Good shout Sam - thanks! Probably make that wet farting noise a bit less severe too. Yes decided to forego the hat for once! Rarely get my hair cut so make the most of it when I do ;)
MOTOBOB nope, it still squelches 😝 I found out fairly recently too, and as I have fairings around my filler cap it made my life a lot easier and made a lot less mess 😂
Can i ask you on scale which you preset on your momentum wrench? Thank you.
Thanks man, great video.
Hey, how about a video changing oil on our street twin ? Thanks
Thanks mate, this video has been very helpful!
Great video helped me change the oil and filter for the first time by my self 🤗 next up change the air filter and spark plugs ....... little more stressed for that part tho hahaha
Greeting from Iceland 😎
Glad it was helpful. The air filter and plugs isn’t too bad if you take your time! Good luck!
How big is the key you usé to take out the oil deposit bolt
How do i know how much oil is in my er6n and how do i know how much i need to put in
I just bought my 2006 a ERN in it had about five liters of oil
😬
oops..the manual says when its dry , you need it refill no more than 2.4 litres.
which is better motul or bel ray?
Not sure - I used Castrol
Can I use bubble bath instead of oil?
Only if you use the oil for a bath.
Hi motobob, Great video as as usual. Any chance of of 1k sub meet up/ride out?
Cheers Adam - appreciate it. Been thinking about what to do when I hit the 1k mark. A ride out might be a nice idea. I've been wondering how many folks are based near London tho - are you in the area?
MOTOBOB id be up for a ride 👍🏽
+Samuel Wicks ok I'll have a think about it. Will prob be about another month before I hit 1k at the current rate
I live in SE London so pretty close to you, I hope it's before July because I'm going on holiday plus I have exams coming up and motorcycle theft protest on the 26/06
+adam pun can't make any promises but I'll post about it soon!
u should partially fill that oil filter as well
Thanks for the tip John - I just ran the engine for a few mins and then topped it up. I should definitely have covered that in the video tho.
Yep, no need for that, it fills as you run the engine, after running let it sit for five mins or so and re-check the level. It should be fine as long as you put in the manufacturers recommended amount.
Why your face.
