Was really wonderful what Ren did regarding this issue. Turned his battle rap song into a message of love and peace. What a mensch!.

To be fair what people seem to look over is that Cole loved putting himself at #1. On First person shooter everyone says it was a compliment that he mentioned Kendrick and Drake as part of the big 3 so why Kendrick have to come in dissing them both? Thats because like always Cole named himself being the Muhammad Ali of the three (which the majority of boxing fans consider him the #1 Goat of boxing including his biggest rival for the #1 talk Mike Tyson). Rap is a competitive industry it’s always been competitive. And i think people who don’t know it very well or are just coming into it don’t understand the very long and brutal history with it. Now I disagree with the point that many people mainly wanted to see people fight for this specific beef at the start. Many reactors big ones that are intelligent in hip hop (nolifeshaq, knoxhill, blacjay etc) stated what the audience was thinking which of the big 3 was #1, which Kendrick, Cole and Drake all claimed to be #1, so this rap beef at the start wasn’t cause people wanted to see blood be literally, hypothetically or metaphorically, it was to see who was really was #1 in terms of rap ability nothing more than that. Which is why people were angry with Cole for backing out because at the time of his apology (you can go see reactions to it many said this) everyone was mad he was supposedly over dramatizing the beef, talking about losing sleep, feeling bad to his soul, losing friends etc. that’s why people were angry not because they wanted him to go in and insight violence but just because the audience assumed, go in and rap and nothing crazy would come from that. Not to mention Cole before this ALWAYS mocked in his music people to directly start beef with him so he can prove he was #1. He invited competition because to many Cole fans they assumed he genuinely believed he could out rap anyone. Which is also why fans were mad he backed out because here he is saying how he’d kill anyone on a beat that challenged him and that he’s always going to be #1 but the moment Kendrick challenged it he backed down? You can see why this could’ve at the time been seen as cowardly or hypocritical. The mix race thing is super misunderstood KENDRICK IS NOT DISSING DRAKE FOR HIS MIX RACIAL HERITAGE unlike Rick Ross. Kendrick attacks him in that sense because the way Drake carries himself, a perfect example of this is Eminem. Eminem acts like Eminem regardless of the same thing of having multiple black features and not to mention he is white. Many don’t see him as “acting black” cause he isn’t he acts like Eminem. Drake on the other hand has a long history of changing how he talks, walks, dresses, hangs with and so on, and the common denominator is it’s always tied back to black culture. He doesn’t act like Drake and we don’t know what acting like Drake would look like because he’s always seeking a more black cultural angle this was addressed in length on “not like us” when Kendrick broke down we’re Drake got all his insight in his mannerisms and character on the colonizer bar at the end. This is why Kendrick called Adonis black in “meet the grahams” cause he recognizes Adonis is black by heritage obviously, but unlike his father he hasn’t yet presented traits like his father to make his whole personality the next blackest persona. Also Kendrick didn’t claim Drake got a bbl he claimed he got his abs done. The reason bbl was brought up by metro boom was for the fact that drake allegedly gets stuff done. All in all you did a pretty good job explaining everything just wanted to clarify a few things on the breakdown no hate at all btw appreciate you covering it! Regardless of everything hip hop needed this beef like many reactors have said hip hop has been dead for years now and this beef hasn’t only brought new audience to it but encouraged more creative beefs to go that have helped hip hop such as quavo and chris brown beef. I think Kendrick and drakes beef seemed to go crazy far because of their stored hatred for one another over a long period of time. And the fact that Drake has had so much controversy over the years in the public eye which has led many fans to distant themselves and people in the industry to do the same cause they might know more than the average fan since they’re also behind the scenes all in all I’m here for this beef, if it’s done it’s done if not then it’s not regardless of the outcome this time will be just as influential as past beefs for the better of the craft of hip hop. Great video and don’t expect you to read this essay but if you do it’s appreciated 🫡

Try some music by YES one of the greatest progressive rock groups of all time. You haven't reacted to them at all. Some good ones include "Roundabout", "Close to the Edge", "The Gates of Delirium". "Awaken", "Turn of the Century"... Loads of good ones.

Where have I been? I haven't heard any of this other than your review right now. I've been too busy making my own music and lyric videos trying to make the world a kinder and better place. I have seen one other battle rap where the dis was kind of clever. Nothing so personal and nasty as some of the examples you gave here, especially going after the family. I don't necessarily think it should be banned with freedom of speech, but I would choose not to engage with it. Do you think their motivation is truly personal, tribalistic and hatred 😥 or is this just a show for the fans? The fans can express their approval or disapproval as to whether it crosses the line by choosing to listen to it and support the artist or not. Personally, I am not a fan of that type of conflict. I prefer uplifting music.

If you ask me, there are way more important messages to send in songs. Self serving songs have never impressed me. That doesn't include self encouragement songs of course.
