Todd M won a Cup with the Wings as an assistant coach. Yes, he wasn’t a head coach, but he was in charge of the Wings offense and power play for 3 years (ranked #1 in the league) He played a large role in the Wings going all the way and winning. He knows what it takes. Not saying he’s the best candidate for the Leafs, but Sam seemingly doesn’t know much about him.

Hughes is in the convo as best dman in the league, but if I’m building a franchise from scratch today, I’m still taking Makar, and I think a lot of people in the hockey world would too. Don’t get me wrong, Hughes is a stud and likely Norris trophy winner in a few weeks, but best in the league, let’s wait a few years to see if Hughes can take that final step to reach Makar, or a younger Hedman, or Josi.

Protect our stars is one thing, but McDavid is considered THE best single player in the game, and the face of the entire league. You might not like that fact, but the hockey world has anointed him that position. So yes, I agree, protecting our stars should be across the board, but Mc Highstick as you put it, is simply treated on his own at the top-just gotta live with that.

Matthews has been here for every embarrassment all these years past, where was his leadership then? Where were his leadership qualities hiding, because I sure didn't see any of that. This could be more pinning the tail on the donkey then grabbing the reins of the thoroughbred to finally lead us down the backstretch and over the finish line.

Tavares has one year left on his contract. This idea he has to go this year… doesn’t pass the smell test and neither does trading Marner. The Leafs offense will fall off a cliff if they get rid of Marner. Yes he played bad in the playoffs but I believe that has more to do with poor coaching and zero accountability from the coach….
Also: do you think the new coach wants to jettison Marner? He brings more than just offense. Matthews and Nylander only is not the same offense. Marner is 100 point player. A new coach will get much more out of him. If not then you look at moving on. But I do not believe that will happen with a final year to prove himself in the playoffs and an actual experienced coach in place….

Dr. Kypreos, well played sir.. this was a brilliant discussion on the psychology of the players. I woulda rather had Willy Styles in San Jose (that’s when we coulda offered Karl in return) I love Ferrari (Mario Ferraro) and cap Clutch/Cooch but maybe Tavares goes to lead in San Jose for another 5-6 years in return. Train the “Shark Reef” (Locked on Sharks reference) but I could see it. I want Tavares to succeed and those guys to win a cup. I also think Marner $100 sheets/mil for Marner to another Canadian team, get Markstrom (before Jersey) or Hellebyuck (away from a bad playoff performance) I’d trade Marner to the West preferably rather than Detroit, to maybe Chicago for Seth Jones… or whatever. I see Marner or Rielly to Nashville to get Saros and/or Schenner/O’Reilly back in the mix, but they prolly all love Nashville so Rielly or Marner may waive for a team/lifestyle in Nashvegas the country music capital of the world!! I was so high on Zadorov, I said in my vlog you’d need to trade Marner for him/Tanev. Lastly, they gotta move out these giant salaries immediately because you’re losing AM34 prime years by the minute. Tavares welcome to the Sharks! 🦈 😅

The rest of the league doesn’t value Marner and Tavares like you guys do in TO. Even tho it’s only 1 yr, nobody is taking Marner’s cap without getting an asset in return. And as far as Tavares goes, it’ll cost likely cost TO a minimum of a 1st rounder to unload. Only other way is if TO retains salary. It’s incredibly rare for a high skilled player (Marner) in to be in the last year of his deal, while in his prime, and still be overpaid. The kid will probably fight tooth and nail to stay in TO as that’s the only team who he can sponge every last nickel of the cap in his next contract negotiations. No other team values him like TO does.
Edit: no other playoff contender values Marner like TO does. They see a $9.5M regular season player and a $3.5M postseason player.

i understand sammy trying to run marner out of town, he's stupid and his balls haven't dropped yet....we then have 3 grown men, who supposedly know anything about hockey trying to do the same. this idea you intentionally make a bad trade to get cap space for montour lmao. you might as well trade everyone and re-build again because you're wasting my time.
