As a LL coach who’s incredibly below average baseball career came to an end after sophomore year of high school, I want you to know these type of videos are gold. No extra fuss or nonsense. Simplistic for kids and inexperienced coaches as well. Just know there are people on the other end of these videos that are genuinely benefiting from your efforts.
As a late baseball convert, I have fallen in love with the game through watching my kids play. These types of videos help us parents who only understand the game on a basic level. Thanks!
As the new LL coach for my sons team based off the fact I played almost 20 years ago, I just want to say thanks bud. Never thought I myself would have to go back to the basics hahaha.
Matt, thank you so much for these easy-to-understand and practical approaches to pitching, throwing and catching. My husband and I are in over our heads at more than 70 years old and volunteer coaching 10 7-8 year old boy and girls in a coach pitch league. I use to do a little playing in high school; and I coached elementary kids for a short while in my 20's. But I really need a lot of help now! I am soaking up everything you are saying to try to relay it to our kids! ❤
I noticed the same thing with my 8 year old in regards to not wanting to throw distance so I make him stand on the foul line and I scoot back for distance or long toss. Love your videos! I literally use everything you're teaching with both my boys!
I really appreciate your channel Matt! As a former college player and now dad of 4 boys I must say... your instruction is the most simple to understand, but super powerful! I wish someone would have taught me the A drill at 3rd base! Keep up the good work!
As someone who played from tball through high school and now coaches (coached tball through majors/12u now) im going to work this into my teams' routines. Ive done small variations of some of this but the routine as a whole is more in depth than ive done. Great video
These are the best youth videos out there. Knowing what not to fixate on as a parent or coach is just as important as the drill. There is a ton of mechanics involved with baseball but a 6-8yo can only consume so much at a time. That is what watching your videos has helped me realize.
Loving these youth focused videos, so helpful for us moms and dads at home. Would love to see an introduction to pitching video for kids just entering kid pitch who want to learn to pitch.
@@AntonelliBaseball Also could u cover the correct pitching form, mechanics, arm position, etc for a kid new to the sport but who's not trying to be a pitcher..
Yes this would be great my 9 yr old just started pitching this year he has a decent arm but it’s hard for these kids to throw consistent strikes lol lots of walks
I played baseball from ages 9-14 (I actually played in the same team as Lourdes Gurriel Jr. at that time). I had not played a lot since then. Last month, I began playing softball in the Roberto Clemente League in Lancaster, PA. I have struggled with my throwing technique and accuracy, and I even hurt my throwing shoulder last Sunday. I’m very happy and hopeful after watching this video. I think it will be very helpful for me. Thank you very much, Matt!
Yes what he was showing you in what I was taught when I was playing but also you can try this method with your outfielders. What our youth coach would do is he would have us lineup at the foul line then our coach would be in centerfield. So what us players would do is we would have a baseball in our hand and we would run to him and then we would flip the ball to our coach. Then what we would do is start sptinting and then he would make over the shoulder catches like a wide receiver would. But that taught outfielders to catch the ball over the shoulder and so that's something that you could do with your team but make it fun also with them
Matt! I’ve fallen in love with your channel. My playing experience only includes playing high school. But now my son has started playing ball and I’ve started coaching, but here videos have been invaluable for me.
Thank you so much for these straight to the point videos. I'm working with my 6yr granddaughter who's going into coach pitch next season. I'm going to use these with her. She's got an incredible arm at being so young but sometimes she gets a little too high with the ball, so I'm hoping this will help with accuracy!!
This is an awesome drill! It not only works on throwing mechanics it helps with catching too. I thought my 11 year old daughter would never be able to catch but after a few throws from one knee she was consistently catching and throwing with more velocity.
My son will be 6 next week. And he wants to work on his skills daily. So I'm looking for drills to help him start to work with a purpose. This is a nice drill sequence I can add in Thanks
My son has had little leaguers elbow and after rehab no a fractured growth plate in the same shoulder. He wants to start working on his opposite arm throwing. This will help. Thanks.
Best channel out there. It’s nice to see a REALISTIC video of a 7 year old. Even if he’s pretty advanced. Would love more youth videos. As a parent of a 12 year old and a 5 year old I feel like I gave my 12 yo way to much technical advice at too young of an age. Trying not to repeat that with my 5yo. When is it ok to start correcting their swing?
Don't correct his swing. Don't do anything. Don't "give advice". Don't "talk baseball" on the car ride home from practice. Don't "talk baseball" at the dinner table. Don't be overly involved with your kids athletics. Just take them to practice, drop them off, and simply let the coaches coach, and let the kids have FUN! Let you children have THEIR TIME to have fun and to enjoy themselves without their parents scrutiny. Parents today are WAY too involved in their kids' lives, and they turn EVERYTHING into a lesson. The problem with many parents today is that they live too much through their kids. They revolve their lives around their kids' experiences, and they just end up sucking all the joy out of athletics. Athletics is supposed to be FUN for kids. It's supposed to be a stress relief from the pressures of school, but, instead, many over-eager parents, who think their kid will be the next Tiger Woods or Lebron James, place way too much importance at "succeeding at sports". If your kid has the talent to become a good athlete, then he/she will become a good athlete. They DO NOT need your help. All they need from you is for you to simply LET THEM have fun, and LET THEM decide what they want to play. Way too many overbearing parents these days, ones who force their kid into a particular sports just because they like that sport. If you find yourself not being able to stay away from watching every single moment of your kids' practices, and if you find yourself not being able to resist giving your kid "Instructions", then I suggest you go find a hobby. Take up jogging, and go jogging around the neighborhood instead of watching your kids' every move at practice. Or go learn to play pickle ball or something.
@AntonelliBaseball Thanks Matt, I just found these videos through a Tanner Tees email. I noticed your Fenwick gear. My Uncle Buddy Henry coached their Softball program for years. Good luck this upcoming season, and keep up the great content.
Love it love your videos I have a 9 yr old bad habit he has is he doesn’t bring his arm all the way back when he throws or pitches he has a decent arm I just feel he can have so much more is there anything I can do with him to get that arm back I showed him a rubber band how much farther it goes when you pull it back I also keep telling him to reach back when he throws but it’s just a bad habit now any tips would be great thank you!!
Thanks for the great video. Question: Why is glove knee down the better way to practice this? I see other videos saying to use throwing hand knee down.
Great info! Possible to provide some info on what glove your son is using? I do some lessons for younger kids & can talk about bats all day long. Gloves? Not as much ...
This is the best thowing video I've found, thanks for posting. I have kind of an off-topic question. What size glove do you recommend for an average size 7yo? He currently has a 10.5. A bigger glove seems to make sense but am worried it will be to heavy. Thanks.
Hey Matt, Do you have any tips for teaching sliding? I coach 9-10 year olds and their slides range from "about to break an ankle" to a "stop, drop and roll" technique. Thanks1
Jaeger bands and a good throwing routine done consistently even in the off season. My son broke his right elbow at 9. He’s right handed. Physical therapist introduced Jaeger bands. He’s 17, still playing baseball. He has never had any arm soreness or discomfort in all the years he has played. He starts at either Centerfield, 3rd base, SS or pitch’s although he likes playing the outfield. I am not in anyway associated with Jaeger bands.
What would you recommend for my 9yo who does not know how to properly throw? Do you have any video teaching throwing mechanics in detail so he can copy and learn? Thanks!
What size glove do you use for a 7 year old. Also, what’s the best way to break in a glove. It’s hard for him to catch because he doesn’t have the hand strength to close that glove and he’s using a 11 or 11.5 glove right now.
Going to implement this at our high school practice tomorrow. Great stuff. Here's hoping our players will pick it up. Thank you Anto. And yes, Matty has a good arm.
Great video. I’ve been scouring UA-cam for the past few months because my 10-year old daughter (finally 😉) signed up for softball and I’ve been DYING to coach because baseball was my jam back in the day (I peaked when I was 11, BTW). I am NOT attempting to troll you nor am I even suggested that I know anything. But I am curious as to why you put your opposite foot forward when down on one knee?…it seems counterintuitive mostly because some of these 9 & 10 year old girls already step with the wrong foot when throwing so been trying to engrave it in to their brains to do it correctly then, if I showed them this warmup I think their brains would explode. 😂. For real though. Just wondering as I’ve been absorbing all of these instructional videos and making note of the dopest ones…like this one. It’s THE way to warmup (as it appears here, anyway). Thanks for the vid!
Can you talk about your right leg leaving the ground? I've been teaching leg rotation like batting and keeping it planted. It looks like you're quite liberal at letting leg leave plant and bringing it up on rotation.
No judgement Matt but when you start why aren’t we on focusing bending over the left knee and getting through it like a normal right- handed throw from the outfield would be like?
Hey Matt antonelli you should play more diamond dynasty baseball games because I like it when you play a lot of diamond dynasty baseball games and you should play that more often of diamond dynasty games diamond dynasty baseball games I like it when you play them more often
They need to tuck the glove on the follow-through to maintain center of balance. If they're letting that glove flop around, it's going to pull their shoulder downward and the accuracy will suffer.
My kids and I play baseball in my basement and i actually worry about them getting bad mechanics from not being able to throw sufficiently hard or far since we are inside.
I like everything about this until I noticed that you had your glove knee on the ground. That is not how you throw during a game. During a game, your glove leg is forward and you push off the throwing side leg. Flip the knees to reinforce the way you play. Practice like you play, play like you practice.
