I remember being on the show, I was a female lead singer with the band " Mint" , we sung a medley of our songs , my male lead singer sang with me, but our song had to fit in with the shows timing format, so our performance was fastened up for a commercial and the two of us were trying to sing and laugh at the same time when we found out what was happening, Ernie was apolosing to us after and was so funny and encouraging....it was a performance I'll never forget!

It was a very different world back then. No one expected to be absolutely wowed with special effects, provocative dialogue, scandalous news, mindless reality shows. These people were locals, who we could catch walking around our local streets and shops. As such, they were more like us than anyone you see on your screens today. Don't forget that TV transmission was still in its infancy compared to today's instant worldwide coverage. Most people who watched this show were within a 50 km radius of the studio it was being transmitted from. A very much local and a very much loved show.

Hi stevo53 Yes I agree with your comments even I was kid at time watching Channel NWS 9 after 4pm Channel Niners with Dean Davis and Helen Woods with cartoons and "Lost in Space"... Adelaide Tonight was in the back of mind then unknown as I was so young then only snippets of Ernie Sigley memories was the gap in his top front teeth! Yes local... Adelaide Tonight live transmission in original monochrome black and white was super in 1973 with 50km or plus radius from Mt Lofty transmission towers. Meeting up with Anne Wills in Rundle Mall 30 years or so ago was unexpected she was natural relaxed with her earrings! Yes Adelaide Tonight was amazing and a quality live relaxed local Adelaide TV show. Thanks to MyLab Labradors sharing this on UA-cam. Yes more please!

Back in the day even international phone calls were a big deal having to be pre booked through OTC, I remember Ernie and later Don Lane doing phone O/S interviews through the scratchy hiss and pop of undersea cables and later the new fangled satellite connections. Seems an eternity ago.

Used to watch this under parental supervision haha because of the slightly ribald nature of Ernies jokes ect it's great to watch and observe the culture of the day, so free, relaxed, respectful, comedic and pure Ozzie humour!

Yes I think it was similar with the music industry. People comment about the great bands that started in Adelaide. I think there was a need for self sufficiency in those days.
And boy, they sure pulled it off.

@@danielstone9404 In the early days of Cold Chisel, back in the 70s, their drummer lived in the house behind my cousins place in Salisbury..I was a bit young to appreciate the gravelly voice of Jimmy Barnes at the time..but I remember sitting out the back with my older cousins listening to the band practice in the back shed..I guess every musician's got to start somewhere.. 😁

I used to cringe a bit, when I'd read comments on UA-cam that life was so much better back then,
but on reflection, I have to concede, that it was, in so many ways. I won't dribble on about why.
And radio & television was a great example of how, it was beamed into every household regardless of social standing; from Burnside to Elizabeth.
And we didn't think much about back then (well, not as kids, my family came here from Britain where there was slightly better quality, so they were a bit picky) but the level of creativity that was generated was very inspirational. As another commentator stated, creative artists like
Ian Fairweather, Dean Davis & those who worked alongside and after them (what about Fat Cat & Humphrey?!?), and so many others you could mention.
And then, it just seemed to all be beamed from Sydney and Melbourne, by people we had no clue about.
Except, of course, the quality shows that gained national audience.

It was extremely sad when everything went to Sydney and Melbourne because basically that extinguished our culture. However with the kids shows unfortunately there were people that were there for the wrong reason and that's why all the kids shows went to Queensland.

I always loved Ernie Sigley, Anne Wills saw her 30 years ago in Rundle Mall in person great earrings so short in height in real life wow and love Ian Fairweather 's curly hair. Adelaide Tonight platform shoes and flare pants love it. Anne Wills did a great Italian song. Goodby to local live Adelaide TV 1973.
