Hi Dereck. 'Music is magic!' Never a truer word said! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've just recently started watching your videos from here in the UK. You are just awesome man!! Your knowledge and enthusiasm is right up there!!! As an ECM 'newbie' of about 200 albums(CDs), I'm grateful to you for your wisdom and for your opening of doors to me of other musical worlds. (I'm a pro classical muso, with a keen interest in all things jazz and 60's/70's/80's rock, with an emphasis on Psychedelia)
Love the love for Barre Phillips! I collect ANYTHING with him on it. Mountainscapes is probably my all time favorite ECM that I've heard. It's the perfect integration of acoustic and electronic sounds IMO. Staggering.
Wow! I feel so honoured!!! Thank you Dereck! Yes, yes it is always about the music, music comes first! You have a stunning collection, now I really need to buy more ECM starting with Output, Just Music, African Pepperbird and Three day moon. I have Mountainscapes, Timeless and Open to love, but forgot about it while making my video. (Have more that i didn't show, lots of Jarrett and other stuff)
I'm keeping up with your videos today, Dereck. This was pretty awesome stuff. Its quiet here. I took a walk with my wife and daughters to get strength back in my legs. Its rainy, 40 degrees here in New England. Perfect day for ECM and I think I'm going to head downstairs right now to play some Garbarek on the living room stereo. Enjoy your day!
Barre Phillips, Marion Brown, Wolfgang Dauner, etc. All of these STILL not available on CD...I've been an ECM fanatic since the late 70's myself and I even missed these (though do have Tom Van Der Geld's"Paths" and others still not on CD). What a cool room, BTW. There's probably a ton of music junkies that wouldn't mind being locked into that room for a few years!! Would like to see the entire room, stereo setup, etc as well-do you have any videos that show this?? Wonderful video, Thanks!
Although I do not collect jazz records I've always have had a soft spot for ECM. Afric Pepperbird with Garbarek is one of my favorite jazz records, especially since Beast of Kommodo is on it. It also features Garbarek how I like to hear him play: fast and furious, unlike a lot of his solo records which are drenched in that typical ECM reverb. Have a nice New Year's Day and a great 2012 :)
Thank you for the excellent words. I would also recommend Ralph Towner / solstice....Jan Garbarek / paths,prints.....Colin Walcott / grazing dreams....Dave Holland /emerald tears....i could go on and on but you probably have these....you have excellent taste Derek....
I'll second what your sister Stephanie stated, you remember each record that you bought even though you may not have listened to it in a decade or two. Shows your personal connection with each release~ Rob/Boston
Great video! It's fantastic to see those gorgeous classic album covers up close and personal. If you're interested, I'm on a mission to review every ECM album under the sun, and have written on every album you show. Check me out at "between sound and space."
Thanks for the show and tell! My ECM titles started with Jarrett and Metheny, but much more to check out now.

That Abercrombie you showed reminded me of his concert i saw just a few months ago. Magnificent. Gateway and Timeless are my favourite

Yes, I have all of them.
@maanvaarder1 Thank you and Happy New Year to you as well!
@ThePancakeRepairman Most definitely. I've posted records in this genre in past videos. What are some artists you're thinking of?
Keith Jarrett's My Song and Belonging are stunning... They are very ECM indeed.
lovely video - thanks :-)
Timeless is a monster!

@ThePancakeRepairman Very awesome.
a pleasure.
Are there any bad ECM albums ? If there are I have not found them yet. What are your thoughts?
Can't recall the title but I think there are a couple. The pop thing Shankar did comes to mind.
@turntabillist As you said, staggering.
I picked up Dave Liebman - Lookout Farm this past weekend at a record show. I was pleasantly surprised how great it is. Are you familiar with it?
Oh yes, I have it on vinyl. Great album.
@wertsdb71 Always looking for more.
Hey Dereck, I what's the one right after the Egberto Gismonti "Sol Do Meio Dia"? It was red.
I figured it out.
@SlimeAmTheBest Yes, you beat us t 2012. Happy new Year!
@astraltraveler68 Saw him with Egberto live, beyond words.
@bigstar1000 You know the goods.
@ThePancakeRepairman These are some new names to me. Thanks for the turn on!
@dereckvon I like the Kranky label, have some Labradford.
@MrPlatypus9 I noted your comment about your legs. I hope you are 100% soon!
Afric Peperbird 🙂 Blup
What does ecm stand for? Is it just random letters or is it an acronym?
Edition of Contemporary Music
@@Mooseman327 cool thanks!
@astraltraveler68 No and I better get on it!
