i appreciate this video so much. the animal pots are super cute, but nobody can make the same thing forever, and you've certainly devoted a fair part of your life to them. thank you for sharing your journey with us!!

I'm an older ex ceramicist and although I've not followed you this video came up thanks to the algorithm.
Your current work is beautiful. I checked out your old videos to see what you're referring to.
Based on what I saw I'd not have expected a fine art direction like this. This work is bold and unique and I'd gladly own a piece. We all start somewhere and evolve, and your choice to focus on your new direction and let go of being a "youtube potter" to me signals great things to come and that you are serious about your art, not primarily in production/sales.
If you want to be an artist (and not all potters do or are which is fine) it's the only right move. This work is both strong and sensitive and it's a path you don't want regular ongoing commentary and influence by a crowd to interfere with. It's perhaps lonely making art, but that's not necessarily a bad thing at all. Alone work doesn't have to mean feeling lonely doing it. I think it's the reverse, and often young artists needing social media constantly are struggling more with loneliness and need for validation or motivation or focus, not yet comfortable in the company of the work itself and the silent knowing, so it holds them back from the work of the artist.
One look at your work and it's clear to me you evolved, have alot of talent, and should trust your inner voice and go wherever new direction it tells you.
I wish you much success in your artistic endeavors and will be happy to see your work irl at some point.
    Godspeed! ❤️

Wise words :) we evolve as creative beings throughout our life and we are never to old to learn and take on different challenges, I started off wanting to study fine arts but studied jewellery part time instead, I then played with multi media because I’ve never found one medium that has become a career or captured my passion sufficiently. I just enjoy variety. My next challenge is working with larger 3d sculptures in porcelain paper.
I love watching other peoples process with their art it’s inspiring.

Although I'm heartbroken about there being no more animal ceramic commissions, I completely understand why you're leaving it all behind. It strongly reminded me of my own dilemmas in life where I'm stuck at a job that's not helping me expand on my skills and it's been eating me alive. Unfortunately, I'm not as lucky as you are and I'm unable to quit due to the financial strains I have. Everyone is swimming in that vast ocean you had mentioned and we are all trying to reach a pinnacle of happiness/creativity/motivation. I'm just glad you're doing something you love and that this new chapter will open new opportunities for you. Thank you, Amii, for sharing your beautiful art! It has been a wonderful adventure following you on this creative journey 🙂

The honesty about changing and evolving as an artist is so appreciated. I don’t even know if it’s lucrative or possible, but maybe you could sell your designs to a company that will make them if people are still asking for them? That way people can have the designs/products they want and you still get to follow your instincts about your art.
Either way it’s a joy to see your creative process 🙏🙏🙏

I did prefer your animal pots more BUT as an artist too I can understand how they were restricting for your skills and gallery, plus your new works look just as unique as they did but in a different style and time. It's not fair on the artist to be forced to make their past works, people can work out how to make the animals themselves to be honest, that's what I did due to not having the money to afford the ones I wanted from you that were around 200+ dollars.

The raw honesty that you presented in this video feels like such a breath of fresh air for me! I have been struggling to create how I used to recently, and it is just as how you stated. You need to be honest about your feelings in order to create. I have lost passion for what I used to create, and now need to venture to find what will inspire me to create again! I totally agree with you Ami. So proud of how far you've come! Your new pots are absolutely so STUNNING. I can see the same growth in myself as an artist too. I saved money from doing picture books for clients this year, but have spent the past few months living on the savings from that as I developed my own books which are currently out on submission thanks to my agent :)
As artists, I think we develop and grow by doing what is appealing and sells well (really glad the animal pots gave you savings too!) But we have a need to keep developing our creative practice and pushing ourselves to see what else we can achieve.. For me, this is the mark of a "true artist" - someone who is not just making what sells well for money (although that is great and we all do it bc we need money!!) but someone who is driven most strongly by their true love for their practice 😊 Will support you no matter what, Ami ! God bless, my fellow creative 🙏🏾
I also love your confession of faith and words about your source of inspiration from God. Inspiration is everything and I wonder if consumers actually realise what is driving creatives to create what they do... I find this inspiration so necessary as well in my line of art and authorship, so it's encouraging to hear I'm not alone in needing time out of social media to focus on seeking godly inspiration for my graphic novels and picture books :) I love it when dots connect and know that people reading my books in the same 'spirit' will be able to read between the lines ❤️

I just found this video and your channel today and subscribed, even though you may not upload often.
I can totally relate to changing, as an artist. We must grow, and we must evolve, outside of art as well, to satisfy our creative spirit and ever-changing thoughts and processes. Your new work is beautifully organic and evocative of textures and shapes of nature. It’s good to appreciate the natural things of this world; plants, animals, mountains, trees, oceans, fish, insects, etc., as when we truly appreciate them, we will not take advantage of them, but nurture and protect them.

At first I was a bit shocked reading that you wouldn’t do animal pots anymore, but your new works resonate with me way more than your old ones. The animals were cute, but I would have never bought one. But these? Well, if I had the money…
They kind of remind me of the ocean. Beautiful.

yes I agree. I loved watching her videos because of how naturally she worked with the clay. It's always nice watching someone who has mastered their craft at work.
I think these pieces reflect even more how well she understands the medium, and showcase her skill better.

I always loved seeing your attention to detail and how well you worked with the clay. I would continue to watch regardless of what you are making.
The animal pots were cute but not really something I would purchase for myself. I'm loving the new direction of your work even more personally. I'm very excited to see more of it :)
