Woah, surprised to randomly see En on my feed! I met En back at Clemson University, he's a really nice dude and a super hardworking artist. Glad to see you're doing well En! また遊ぼう!

There's something about ceramics that is so wonderful to the touch, like wood and glass, or beautifully worked metal. To me, craftspeople are alchemists, transmuting the simplest of elements into something so beautiful. I hope the community of ceramic artists in Shigaraki will continue to work and prosper for a long time. ❤️

@@SkidChill that's not wealthy, they were well off. Just because you come from a loving successful family doesn't mean you come from money or are wealthy.

I’m not Japanese but part of a younger generation who loves art. The whole video was really beautiful and insightful to watch. So unfortunate I can’t appreciate the real deal. I hope Iwamura and the rest of the communities hopes for the little town to be revived come true and that it can thrive. All the best to them all 🫶🏼

I like the work he's making, it's like graffiti characters in ceramic form. I understand when he said sometimes the work can come out of the kiln boring or disappointing. That's the process. You push through that. The workspace is amazing. I want a set-up like that.

Exactly there’s always that period of doubt in the middle of a work after the initial excitement of starting. Just have to see it through most times it comes out better than expected

Last update on Mr. Shimamura’s website was from 2020, at the end of his residence in Shigaraki I believe.
I hope he is still doing ceramics 😊!

It's truly sad to see the pottery industry slowly fade. Same thing happened in the 70s In The uk.
That switch from man made, to mass production.
