I always wished they'd explore the idea that Cyclops eyes are a portal to another dimension more, I feel like there's so many places you can go with that.
Imagine a focal length amplifying process that allows him to project the portals from other spaces he can see, like his fists. Then we’re REALLY in the punch dimension.

It's pretty simple, his power is the ability to open those portals to the punch dimension. The "solar" portion is not what generates the "punch," but what controls the *aperture* of that portal. By default, only a certain amount of energy flows through the portals, but if he strains himself he can widen that aperture, producing more powerful beams. If he does this too much though, it drains his solar energy reserves. It's basically like trying to hold a valve open that wants to close.
Tim Ogul it's still confusing because he also needs the glasses to keep them closed. When he's not wearing them they fire non- stop. The aperture is always open but it doing so tires him out because it wants to close?
Well, it doesn't tire him out physically, it just tires out his "super power reserves," And yes, it's a strain on his systems while active, but he doesn't have the _option_ of just turning it off. This is because he had brain damage as a child that broke the part of his brain meant to control his abilities, leaving them "always on". Think of it like someone with uncontrollable muscle spasms. It's painful, and it puts strain on their muscles that they would be better off not having, but they lack the ability to "just stop doing it."
The visor doesn't close the apertures. It just harmlessly absorbs the beam (or redirects it back into Cyclops, who then absorbs it harmlessly), using the same energy field that allows Cyclops' own body to safely block the beam. That field is why he can block the beam with his hands and even his eyelids. The same field also harmlessly absorb the beams of his brother Havok, which is how their sibling immunity works..

And also it makes more sense for his eyes to be portals since he can close his eyes and close the portals. If it's just a constant stream it would blow through his eyelids.
Actually, closing his eyes doesn't close the portal. Instead, as a part of his mutation, his entire body is covered in a field that can harmlessly absorb the beam. That's why he can block it with his hands and even his eyelids. It's also how his visor works: Ruby quartz resonates with the field, giving it the same ability to block the beam. Finally, it's how his immunity to the powers of his brother Havok works. Their energy signatures (or something like that) are similar enough that the field can absorb Havok's beams as well. Alex Larson That's part of it. The other part is considering how big the portals in his eyes really are. Because after AvX the power of the former Phoenix 5 powers were enhanced along with their physical fortitude. For Cyclops it expanded the portals in his eyes, which would've happen normally if continued to train and develop them. So now Cyclops could channel so much power that even his original visor could barely control it. It's also why that had to change his visor. It was now half visor/half reflector. The beams are blasting continuously at a set lower limit of power that is energetic enough to break bones. Cyclops can increase the force beyond this to an unknown upper limit, and he obviously uses his visor to control the beams to create an effective lower limit of force below the normally fixed level, including stopping the beams altogether. Cyclops has exhausted his ‘energy reserve’ of sunlight in the past when he was younger and before his power level was increased by Krakoa; the continuous blasting effect is not enough to deplete his reserves unless he is starved of all sunlight for a considerable Time or if he attempts to increase the beam’s output to his upper limit for an extended but unknown period of time.

The "concussive energy force" to me makes sense. It's just like the Green Lantern's constructs, but straight and red. The whole dimension made of that though....
Omega Level isn't some arbitrary power level classification. It has an actual meaning. The fact that Scott and Kurt have any sort of limitations to their power disqualifies them from being Omega Level.
@@ComicDrake As the great Stan Lee once said...a character can be anything if they're written that way. Most of the Omega-level mutants introduced over 50 years ago have been introduced as Omega-level in the last decade or so...Iceman, Storm, and Magneto. Cyclops' limitation could be his need for a visor that can be 'cured' -- similar to how his power was amplified after visiting Krokoa in Giant-Size X-men. Nightcrawler is part demon and could easily be retconned. Really, power levels are rarely consistent and can vary from book to book.
appreciate the X-MEN related content man Cyclops is for sure the most under appreciated mutant of the X-mansion a lot of times is cos people who knows nothing about the comic books tend to be incapable of seeing how interesting and awesome his character truly is and the important icon that he will always be for the X-men there is a reason of why his father and son are badass Cyclops also has a lot of that in his blood
It was explored, a bit, in one of the earlier issues of the first X-Men: First Class run. Either #3 or #4, but through Doctor Strange, Scott and the X-Men learn more about how his powers work, which fits the explanation of "his eyes are portals to another dimension", and they even visit the dimension. I know those "First Class" runs are looked over, as they very much were aimed at all-ages, but there were some gems in them that made them worth reading that expanded on what we already know from those early days of the X-Men.
they could have just said the dimension was actually the Crimson Cosmos inhabited by Cyttorak. hell, think about it, Cyttorak LOVES chaos and destruction. Scott's blasts are the embodiment of that. so I could totally see him find it amusing that Scott is channeling what is effectively an alternate form of the Crimson Bands through his eyes.
Laser beam eyes would have been an easy and convinient to explain his power but a Portal behind his eyes and the cause behind those red power beams? WOW! So interesting.
Also I want someone to hack the portals in cyclops’ eyes so he can shoot Darkforce or hellfire or whatever magical shit from whatever magical dimension he wants out of them instead. That’d be a cool secondary ability.
I remember reading somewhere that Cyclops' "punch dimension" is actually the realm of Cyttorak. Though I've been unable to find a source on this, it does make sense. Cyttorak was basically this extradimensional god of massive power that would originally empower the Juggernaut, who was so overwhelmingly powerful that telepathic attacks are the only reliable way to beat him. Moreover, Doctor Strange occasionally invokes Cyttorak when casting the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak, wiry magical tethers that were basically unbreakable unless you had the power level of Worldbreaker Hulk or the Infinity Gauntlet. Powers we've seen in the MCU, and I'm amazed Marvel Studios didn't get sued by Fox over it. Honestly I think the whole idea of the Punch Dimension was to basically differentiate it from Cyclops having guns in his eyes. ...Even though guns kill through focused concussive force.
Punch Dimension is dope, just a dimension of constant power, no can live in it, just take from it, i like that idea, maybe the name could change but its a dope idea
The punch dimension would explain why his optic beams don't send him flying backwards at the same rate that they move forwards from his face. Or, really more accurately, why they don't break is neck

People underestimate how powerful and the span of his optic blasts. His blast can cover his whole range of sight. Meaning what he sees in front spanning to his peripheral vision. That's pretty scary
I would accept solar radiation as the catalyst that activates Scott’s Mutant-X gene, while the portals are a manifestation of his eyes focal point feeding in light and his unique mutation. If Scott was never exposed to solar radiation, then maybe he would never have developed his powers, but by being born and existing on Earth this was unavoidable.
Cool vid! Theres a reference to cyclops' eye portals in a recent wolverine series, where a villain speculates about how cykes powers work, and makes a ruby-quartz fungus grow over his eyes...
2:28 that right there is what i was thinking, it kind of falls into the same idea that technical wolverine's claws would brun stuff as they cut because they are not finer than atoms so they'd build up friction as they cut, and if your cutting a tank in half thats a lot of heat.
I just saw a viral tweet just recently complaining about a picture of cyclops using his optic blast to grill food, and one of the replies said he's basically just "punching the meat with his eyes".
This is the first time I've heard of the punch dimension. I love the concept. I wonder if Antman can ride a ruby vehicle into Scott's eyes and enter the puch dimension? You know...... because comics.
The alternative dimension thing could work if done right. Say Havoc and Cyclops enter the punch dimension to find out how there powers. They discover it's actually called The Chaos realm or the Crimson Cosmos and it's inhabited by Cyttarok. Cyttarok is an interdimensional god who loves anarchy and he also empowered Jaugernaut . In the chaos realm the normal laws of physics and gravity don't apply. Cyclops and havoc can use solar radiation to open portals to the chaos realm and can harness the gravitational energy into kinetic concusssive blasts or waves. Harnessing the gravitational energy also gives them enhanced strength, speed, agility and stamina. In the Chaos realm Havoc and Cyclops become omega level mutants with the power to manipulate gravity, open portals in and out of the chaos realm and even fly.
For people wondering any times his blast make fire like that candle in the beginning it's cause of friction (check back to your 7th grade science class for more info about that) and he only stops/runs out/reaches his limit when his physical body can't take it he can't just blast an optic beam with the power of a nuke without probably going unconscious afterwards or just during the attempt to do so
Another great video. I am so glad you informed me about Cyclops' powers; that is WILD! He has been one of my favorite X-Men, and I just took his powers for granted. I found it fascinating. All the best, and continued success to you!
Actually, I think I know a less pseudo-sciencey way to explain cyclops lighting candles with his eyes. He buys and/or modifies candles so he can light them with concussive force, mostly as a party trick, because honestly, it's a cool trick.
with how his powers have worked this makes sense. it explains why there is no recoil on cyclops, and why his and his brothers powers work on Mr. sinister.
I’ve Mandala Effected myself for years thinking it was Cyttorak’s dimension. Completely forgetting it was Juggernaut who gets his powers from there. But what if…
Colossus's metal skin also comes from an alternate universe, Nightcrawler travels through one when he teleports (as does Cloak), and I think someone even said Wolverines claws were interdimensional once to explain why they were longer than his forearms. :P
With your comment about Cyclops accessing other dimensions to use, I actually thought of a similar idea for Cloak and Dagger where instead of the Darkforce and Lightforce they wield the Punch Dimension energies and the Spotted Dimension energies. I imagined Cloak would still have a cloak but it'd be glowing red and he could send out multiple blasts from it or create a massive blast out of the entire thing, meanwhile Dagger would be using the portals from the Spotted Dimension so she could summon holes to travel through and send stuff to different points so with these new powers they would work more in unison where Cloak would fire off blasts and Dagger would use her portals to redirect the blasts into various directions to basically make it near impossible to avoid as the blasts could be going through multiple portals and being like that laser grid from the Resident Evil movie. I imagined these being alternate universe versions of Cloak and Dagger who gained access to different dimensions but I can't really think of good names for them that would fit. They are called Cloak and Dagger due to using cloaks and dagger and this combination is a phrase but I don't know what would be a good name for essentially a living laser man and a polkadot girl who can summon Looney Tunes holes.
His mutant abilities are actually similar to Nightcrawlers. He opens a portals into a pocket dimension made of pure concussive pressure, but since he injured his head as a child he can't control it and his eyes are always open portals.
The portals thing on cyclops actually makes sense. The fact that there is no recoil. If he fired he fired that much force at say a metal wall it would launch him off his feet. The energy is needed to open the portals.
I found this video in recommended & I'm glad that I did lol thanks for the information as well as smooth & quality presentation of the information. Cool. Much appreciated & I have subscribed & will check more out later!
@caitlinbrewer4843 The best way to fix this is to say cyclop’s power is byproduct of the concept of Spatial manipulation, and his beam are the expanded movement forward of space in compressed form.
I suppose, it's more a long the lines of Scot having to focus on keeping the portals open, rather than the portals being open. The portals in his eyes are either open or closed.

The concussive force thing has had me scratching my brain, since I thought he projected heat, as a kid. Idk, comics are crazy, cool video!
The "concussive energy force" to me makes sense. It's just like the Green Lantern's constructs, but straight and red.
The whole dimension made of that though....
I like it👍 it's perfectly explained. Punch dimension just sparked new interest in Cyclops.
The fact that Nightcrawler and Cyclops can access other dimensions via their mutant powers should elevate them to the Omega level.
@@ComicDrake cyclopes is omega level because he can control his power but because of an accident he can't
@@zeanone9257 That's not how Omega Level works.
Never though a power so simple could be that complicated.
appreciate the X-MEN related content man
Cyclops is for sure the most under appreciated mutant of the X-mansion
a lot of times is cos people who knows nothing about the comic books tend to be incapable of seeing how interesting and awesome his character truly is
and the important icon that he will always be for the X-men
there is a reason of why his father and son are badass
Cyclops also has a lot of that in his blood
Okay but I love the idea of the punch dimension. That’s comics GOLD.
Also I want someone to hack the portals in cyclops’ eyes so he can shoot Darkforce or hellfire or whatever magical shit from whatever magical dimension he wants out of them instead. That’d be a cool secondary ability.
Good to see some love for my favorite X-Man.
Thanks for the info
Cyclops is my all-time fav X-Men.
Punch Dimension is dope, just a dimension of constant power, no can live in it, just take from it, i like that idea, maybe the name could change but its a dope idea
Legend has it Captain Falcon harnesses energy from the punch dimension
The punch dimension would explain why his optic beams don't send him flying backwards at the same rate that they move forwards from his face. Or, really more accurately, why they don't break is neck
With those glasses you look like daredevil
You know, maybe the punch dimension is where all the stuff that The Hand erases goes to.
Yes
This is the first time running into your channel and the first video I've seen of yours. I haven't seen anyone do this topic and found it fun informative and your look is so right for the video. I subbed.
I'm glad you liked it! I try to specialize in stuff nobody really talks about so I hope you enjoy the other videos on the channel and that you'll like the ones coming in the future. :)
I love this channel so so much! Nurding out with people who also spend 5 hours a day reading...books. yah, I'm a reeeeeal jock!
That sound effect from Capcom’s Marvel games was a goated reference
Dimension does not run out of energy but Scott becomes fatigued after a while
LOL "Optic Blast!." Brings me back!
Cool vid! Theres a reference to cyclops' eye portals in a recent wolverine series, where a villain speculates about how cykes powers work, and makes a ruby-quartz fungus grow over his eyes...
i get that drake wanted to get glasses like cyclopse , but bro those are daredevils
Man Cyclops was one of my favorite Marvel characters ever, and I never knew this about him
Mutant Profile
Scott Summers A.K.A Cyclops
Power: Shoots punches out of his eyes.
The punch dimension is awesome
For people wondering any times his blast make fire like that candle in the beginning it's cause of friction (check back to your 7th grade science class for more info about that) and he only stops/runs out/reaches his limit when his physical body can't take it he can't just blast an optic beam with the power of a nuke without probably going unconscious afterwards or just during the attempt to do so
Backlog viewer's thought process "nice Matt Murdock cosplay. Oh wait, that's supposed to be a Scott Summers cosplay"
Honestly i think its kinda cool. If they did a story where he learned to adjust it to the light and dark dimensions it could be pretty interesting.
Man, I grew up on those Handbooks. Great video dude!
Another great video. I am so glad you informed me about Cyclops' powers; that is WILD! He has been one of my favorite X-Men, and I just took his powers for granted. I found it fascinating. All the best, and continued success to you!
I know the glasses are supposed to be because Cyclops but with the suit you look more like Matt Murdock.
BEHOLD! OPTIC BLAST!
Actually, I think I know a less pseudo-sciencey way to explain cyclops lighting candles with his eyes. He buys and/or modifies candles so he can light them with concussive force, mostly as a party trick, because honestly, it's a cool trick.
with how his powers have worked this makes sense. it explains why there is no recoil on cyclops, and why his and his brothers powers work on Mr. sinister.
nice to see some rose tinted glasses
I’m sure the glasses are cyclops themed but drake is out here looking like daredevil
I’ve Mandala Effected myself for years thinking it was Cyttorak’s dimension. Completely forgetting it was Juggernaut who gets his powers from there. But what if…
Can you do a video on the new gods someday ?
They have a very complicated history
Yes.
Comic Drake
yay !
Thanks :)
Great idea man
Colossus's metal skin also comes from an alternate universe, Nightcrawler travels through one when he teleports (as does Cloak), and I think someone even said Wolverines claws were interdimensional once to explain why they were longer than his forearms. :P
The punch dimension is badass
The first time I learned about this it immediately became my cannon
So CORE!Frisk is cyclops but not firing the death beams 24/7
thanks for this every time I asked someone who read the comics I would get a different explanation and now I know why
I want to see a story where Cyclops gets a temporary upgrade and can open dimensional portals with his eyes. Not just the 'punch' dimension.
Just stumbled upon the channel. Love your content and your presentation. Thanks. Subscribed.
I used to explain lighting the candles as summer in the dimension.
Say what you will, I still like to br like Dr. Evil and say he has "Freaking Laser Beams Attached to his head"!
Woah, nice daredevil cosplay
You look as if Matt Murdock became a comic book youtuber rather than a lawyer
I wonder what would happen if Ant-Man shrunk down and tried to go through Scott’s “portals”?
I want the spirit of his mother to be the guardian of the Punch Dimension.
I want a Cyclops-centric comic exploring more of the Punch Dimension, and he actually gets to go there
How does somebody enter their own eyes?
The portals thing on cyclops actually makes sense. The fact that there is no recoil. If he fired he fired that much force at say a metal wall it would launch him off his feet. The energy is needed to open the portals.
1:43 Actually fire is orange and yellow
Well done sir.
Concussive Force dimension unintentionally created by Cyclops' kinetic energy via psionic pathways would be awesome!
Dude imagine American Chavis in the punch dimension and she gets out of there threw Scott's eyes.
I dig the glasses.
I love Cyclops
This was very interesting and definety one of marvels crazy out there ideas. Thanks for covering it :)
I found this video in recommended & I'm glad that I did lol thanks for the information as well as smooth & quality presentation of the information. Cool. Much appreciated & I have subscribed & will check more out later!
damn it drake you make those glasses look so good i want them
Love the Daredevil glasses. Totally got what you were going for with red Cyke glasses, but those are totally Matt Murdock lol
Imagine if Cyclops (my favorite X-Men character) could open up multiple different dimensions, one with heat, or ice, or full force.
I've been thinking that my boy is due for a power upgrade
@caitlinbrewer4843 The best way to fix this is to say cyclop’s power is byproduct of the concept of Spatial manipulation, and his beam are the expanded movement forward of space in compressed form.
That's some good canon research!
I suppose, it's more a long the lines of Scot having to focus on keeping the portals open, rather than the portals being open. The portals in his eyes are either open or closed.
