  • During my recent trip to Maui, Hawaii, I drove the Road to Hana and made many awesome stops along the way. This drive really is about the journey and not the destination. There are so many beautiful places to pull over and things to see, from cascading waterfalls to red sand beaches, black sand beaches and a bamboo forest.
    These are the mile markers for the places I stopped:
    22: Pua'a Ka'a Falls
    32: Wai'anapanapa State Park (Black Sand Beach)
    34: Hana Town / hidden Red Sand Beach
    45: Wailua Falls
    Last stop: Ohe'o Gulch / Seven Sacred Pools
    2: Twin Falls
    My gear:
    My camera - Canon 5D Mark IV: amzn.to/2LTFOwT
    Canon 16-35mm lens (awesome wide angle): amzn.to/2Jsstx4
    Canon 70-200 zoom lens (great for events): amzn.to/2Jms9A5
    Canon 85mm 1.2 (my FAVORITE portrait lens): amzn.to/2kEuV5I
    Canon 85mm 1.8 (a cheaper alternative): amzn.to/2LQMAnk
    Canon 50mm 1.4 (second favorite portrait lens): amzn.to/2sAuKvN
    DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone: amzn.to/2spNwqq
    My favorite drone backpack: amzn.to/2snNE9M
    ND filters for my drone: amzn.to/2LPmS2x
    GoPro Hero6: amzn.to/2LemFEF

    We just got back to our hotel in Ka’anapali after taking the day to do the drive! When we come back I want to leave earlier than we did (we left at 7am), and I would go straight to Black Sanding beach to enjoy an hour or two before the rest of the crowds show up. The water would be a little calmer, and the beach wouldn’t be crowded. Then I would go to the seven pools to enjoy a couple hours there. Then I would come back and hit two or three falls on the way back. We got to Black Sand beach at noon and it was starting to get busy. When we left at about 1:30ish the line of cars trying to get in was insane!

    • @NicoleGlass
      @NicoleGlass  5 років тому +1

      Yeah that’s what I hear! I arrived at Black Sand Beach around 9:30 or 10 am, but I also left at 5 am. If I would do it again, I’d spend the night in Hana 😊

    Hi Nicole. Again, love the video. It’s amazing the quality of your images and amazing drone footage. Love Maui already and never been. How did you find it? Photography wise how was it for you? Thankfully you got the hat (cap) back. Most of the times I wear one so might not follow your advise on that 😁.
    Love your work and will be finding you on your website and in any other media 😜 best wishes

      Hi Pedro, I must have missed seeing this comment earlier but thanks so much for your well wishes and your comment! Maui was such a wonderful place. I lived on Oahu as a kid, but I have never been to Maui until recently. I found the snorkeling on the South Shore to be the best I've ever experienced. Tons of turtles and eels. And of course, photography-wise, it was awesome. (But sometimes extremely windy... not good for drones.)
      Keep wearing your hat but make sure to hold on to it if you go to Maui 😉

    The road to Hana is best experienced if you actually stay in Hana for the night. Slow down and savor the journey. If you do it all in one day, you are hurried and exhausted trying to make it back. A lot of tourists end up hating the drive because of this reason

    • @NicoleGlass
      @NicoleGlass  5 років тому

      Yes definitely! If I were to go again, I would definitely spend a night there. I ended up doing the drive there twice during the same vacation, but I left around 4/5 am each time to fit everything in. How long did you stay when you went?

    • @NicoleGlass
      @NicoleGlass  3 роки тому

      A few of them you may notice (the major ones), but a lot of them you won't. I'd recommend writing down the mile markers before you start driving so that you know where to pull over when you lose cell phone service.

    Hi Nicole, Your video is so good. Which month was this drive? We are going to Hana on 30th November and staying overnight at Hana. Do you think the rain would be more intense during this time of the year? I am kind of freaked out about the number of hair pin bend and car break-ins too.

    • @NicoleGlass
      @NicoleGlass  4 роки тому

      Hi Alok,
      It might rain, but Hawaii weather is very unpredictable. A lot of times the rain is followed by sunshine, then it rains, then the sun comes back. If it's just showers I would probably still go. (My video was filmed around November 8, 2018).
      Car break ins are only a problem if you leave stuff visible in the car. My friend left a bag on the passenger seat which is why the car was broken into. So leave nothing behind!
      The hair pin turns can be a little intense, but if you're staying in Hana then it's way easier because you're not driving back on the same day.
      -Nicole

    Drove Road to Hana last week. Never again. Most terrifying drive of my 40 something life. But I did get suckered into driving the West and North coast a few days later. It wasn't as bad, but it still sucked. You better have patience with others, drive slow, nerves of steel, great brakes and tires as well.
