Totally agree. Many travel Vloggers I watch on UA-cam did not go to Kampung Baru. Malaysia is a mix race country. We have Malay , Chinese and Indian being the major 3. For Chinese food you go to Petaling Street and everywhere around K.L. For Indian food you go to Brickfields. For Malay food you go to Kampung Baru. In Kampung Baru you can see all the Old style Malay houses.

Hi. I think it’s not easy to get any malay authentic food in Jalan Alor. Jln Alor is touristy area which promotes mostly international cuisine. However, if u wanna try our local cuisine you could probably consider going to -
Kg Baru or Jalan TAR - for malay local food
    Brickfields- for Indian local food
Masjid India - for Indian muslim
    Chinatown - for chinese food
Chow Kit - mixture of malay, Indian & Chinese.
Please give a try to our Malaysian street Ramly Burger… You can find Ramly burger stall at any road side (night time).. tourist love❤ the taste.

Yup in Malaysia we usually eat with our right hand especially most of the Indian and Malay people.. Its a common practice at home. whilst the Chinese folk however are common in eating using chopsticks or orks. however, when eating out Malaysians always dines in using spoon and forks. for us Malaysians we always find it unusual or weird when we see foreigners eat rice using forks. we usually use the spoon to eat the rice, the fork is usually used to poke and pop meat into the mouth.. i know this may sound weird to foreigners but is a vey common practice actually. the Chinese people however have mastered the way of eating rice on chopsticks. common on most Chinese homes. Indian people would generally hate on any who would eat banana leaf rice with spoon and forks. that's a big no no. you have to use your right hand to eat any banana leaf rice dishes. the only time you'd find knife and forks in restaurant in Malaysia is on western food based restaurant. or those big chain fast food restaurants like nandos, Kenny rogers roasters, KFC etc etc. so that's why u find mostly chopsticks, spoons and forks in most normal Malaysian food restaurants.

Thank you so much for sharing! It’s fascinating how different cultures have adopted different ways of eating food. Unfortunately I’m that “annoying foreigner” who eats rice with fork. 🫣 In Europe, we generally eat everything with knife and fork (unless it’s soup, then you use spoon). But this is why life is interesting - we’re all doing things differently, and it’s great to learn about each other 😊

Malays, Chinese, Indians, Eurasians, Kadazans and others who are citizens are all Malaysians. Malaysia is named after Malays because of their status of being indigenous people. So if you want to have authentic Malay food you go to Malay eateries, for authentic Chinese food you go to Chinese eateries and for authentic Indian food you go to Indian eateries. But then again there are cross influences in the cuisines of the three main ethnic groups.

Those are just majority ethnic groups but only in Peninsular Malaysia. In the Borneo part of Malaysia, Indians become the minority group, while Iban and Kadazan are the two majority ethnic groups respectively in Sabah and Sarawak. Followed by Malay, then Chinese.

Knife is really unnecessary unless u have steak. Just use fork to hold the solid food and spoon to cut and scoop rice n soup.
If you want to look for malay meal, try to look for restaurant or stall with muslim women worker or cook wearing hijab..

The important thing in a coconut is electrolytes not whether it is sweet or not but it must be fresh of course. Again contradicting yourself. You said you do not like sweetness in your dish but you are comparing a coconut between two countries.

Why on earth do we need knife to eat Asian food? Isn't a fork or spoon will do the trick? If not there is chop stick for noodles. If you want to see a knife, go to a western restaurant that has chicken chop.

Hello Keith, Jalan Alor is a very popular spot here amongst the tourists, so we were ought to check it out. It’s a bit like going to Marrakech and having to visit Jema El’Fna without hanging around there for too long (but a must see) 😂 if that makes sense. Thank you so much for your concern, I’m absolutely fine thankfully - Yad was meeting his friend but I decided not to join in - if I’m very frank, street food is a big no no for me, it never ends well for me haha! Yad is much braver than me, he just gets stuck in with things and wanting to explore the culture thoroughly (I’m a bit more choosy lol).

@@dacedaine822 Hi Dace. We understand what you mean by a "must see". Glad you are ok. Yes Cath was a bit like Yad in trying everything though often suffered for it! We now cook alot of Moroccan dishes and know the better places to eat. The street food here is good but its wise to be cautious. See you next, and hope you continue to enjoy what looks like a very friendly country. 💐
