When my girlfriend was shot and killed, I played this song over and over. Star's voice provided a soothing companion to the mourning, shock, and listlessness which ebbed and flowed within. Loving friends helped but I came to enjoy submitting to, rather than resisting, my soul's cry for nurturing through solitude and tears as healing continued at its seemingly glacial pace. I haven't heard this song for at least a decade. My eyes blur as I type. And its O.K. Thank you Mazzy.
I'm so.sorry for your loss. I'm a writer, among other things, and reading your description of your extreme and painful bereavement experience is powerful and poignant. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I agree the song seems to convey what you described.
“Fade Into You” Meaning As for the lyrics, the most common interpretation is that “Fade Into You” is about having an unhealthy obsession with someone who is somewhat damaged and not capable of true affection. It is a bittersweet song, because naturally, such an affection can only end in heartbreak and disappointment. Hope Sandoval’s haunting voice ads just as much, if not more, mood to the song as the lyrics. She sings of attempting to find a connection with this partner, but soon coming to realize that they are not capable of forming a real emotional and physical connection. This realization is disappointing and heartbreaking and her breathy, ethereal voice conveys those feeling perfectly. The first two verses describe her trying to get close to this person who is not truly available. Nonetheless, she ends up giving herself completely to the person to whom she is singing. She has faded into him (or her). They have become everything to her and she’s lost herself in the process. The line “I think it’s strange you never knew” tells us that, all the while, the other person never even realizes this. The final verse describes her waking up to all of this. She finally comes to the realization that the object of her infatuation is not actually available on a deeper level. His (or her) “smiles cover his/her heart.” The person is only superficially “with” her. An alternative explanation I’ve heard quite a few times is that the song is about a shy girl finally confessing her true feelings to the object of her love. I think this works, too. In this case, the last verse could simply mean that she finds it difficult to read the other person; she can’t tell if her feelings are reciprocated or not.
I think it strange you never knew - one of the saddest lyrics of all time. A voice full of heartbreak makes this haunting song a masterpiece of melancholy.
when i was working on a company in Iraq at 2008, maybe every day after finishing my work, go the corner of the factory and while closing my ears to the all crowd just open to mazzy star's fade in to you and wild horses. And i was following whirl-winds which was going on huge desert. And i felt so alone ... İ liked this and never forget...
I will never get tired of this sweet voice! This song brings me back to my first year in college in 1995 (OMG, 20 years ago now) but I can still listen to this over and over and over again.
Dude, I spent months and months searching for the title and artist of this song. The first moment i heard it, i fell in love with it. It killed me for months trying to figure out who sang it. Everyone thought i was crazy when i tried to sing it so they might possibly know the title. My boss was listening to it on her itunes as i walked in her office and my search finally ended!
Been there, done that! Driving home late one night, across the isolated Sonoran desert, through the Rez, an instrumental song played over the radio. It was so incredibly beautiful and arresting, I had to pull over and listen to the radio, under the most brilliant starry sky I'd seen in ages! Talk about taking ones breath away. Man! I noted the time, called the radio station the very next morning. A stroke of luck, the same DJ was there. He couldn't pinpoint the exact title but graciously gave me the name of three songs played in that time frame. The day after I visited a record store (read over 30 years ago, lol) and the owner helped me out. The haunting music was Mark Josephson (no affliation here other than a huge appreciator. [sic]) The CD was called "Dreamstate". The song was also called "Dreamstate". But the entire CD is great traveling music. I love it still, and play it often.
SO TRUE! I'm SO GRATEFUL to have grown up before technology ruined music and just about everything else. Such a breath of fresh air to know I'm not the only one who feels like that!
To all the good young care free teenage years of my life when all seemed so right and it felt like nothing could ever go wrong or come to a end. And to all the friends I loved so much and lost! This ones for you!
There is some relevance to your question. As soon as 9.11 hit, the world seemed to have changed. 80's and 90's was all school, fun, sports, kids, homes, vacations. As soon as the 21st century started, everything seemed to have changed..
her voice is so haunting its beautiful and the instrumentals are just incredible . the lyrics seem sad. I don't relate to them at the moment but I do think this song is pure art. simply put- I feel nostalgic and and somber when I hear this song.
When I still believed in love and the lie of soul mates...my true loves are my children. The birth of both of my children taught me that I never felt unconditional love before I was blessesd with them.
You sound like the mother of my children who left me on valentines day after 9 years in 2019 she loves our kids so much she barely lets me see them because that's how much she loves them and needs them even though they tell me she's always working and never sees them. Love, bull shit story She never loved me I never loved her and despite knowing this she asked me for 3 kids thinking they would make us love each other then when she realized nothing would make me love her she left.
I just saw your comment (a year later) and wanted to say, I found it touching. Thank you for your kind words. I have such crazy, mixed emotions, of his passing. Between the horrible pain of my 18 year old boy leaving my life, the beauty of knowing he was as comfortable as possible and everything went well, and the looks I get from people when I speak of my putting him down (as if I didn't really love him or like I'm sick and lacking morals) I still say it was the best decision I could have made.
"The lyrics are most widely interpreted as a bittersweet story of falling in love with someone that is slightly damaged and incapable of living up to expectations. Hope Sandoval hauntingly sings of trying to connect with her partner on both an emotional and physical level; until, she begins to realize that this person can't give back. They aren't quite positioned where they need to be in life. You can hear the disappointment and heartbreak in the way she sings her lyrics."
I feel the same way as described in the song. I once loved someone who didn't love me back or maybe she didn't have the common courtesy to tell me. I haven't seen her in years but with my own personal doubts I was heart broken, I spent days, weeks, months feeling upset full of despair. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth with a hint of nostalgia from your rememberence of the day you meet someone you fall for. In my case listening to this song doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth but rather gives me nostalgia and once you start remembering that your not where you were before you feel depressed and sorry for yourself again. Like an after effect of a hardcore drug it almost kills you from the pain but you still come back for more because its pleasurable. This song is my drug and mark my words I WILL BE BACK FOR MORE.
It doesn't just hit the mark it hits you in your soul this is a good song not the prospect of it but rather the way you feel about it when you listen to it.
Having lived a long time and been thru a love which was difficult I can honestly say that this is true: the only person you have to be with 24/7 is yourself. You have to master loving yourself before you can love anyone else. I think I have been in a soul connection for 10 years with this person, the first years in person, but we may never seen each other again as we live in different states. However I believe our soul connection will last to the end of our lives.
the clarity this song gives me is unfathomable. Psychedelic music at its best.being able closing my eyes and drifting away in thoughts could is amazing. Thanks Mazzy, owe you one.

I just discovered this song from Smule, it was a suggestion to sing, I did never hearing it but sang it as if I wrote it. That was a few months ago, finally listening to the actual song I'm just so grateful... I'm reading the comments and think to myself after like the 4th one....this is my tribe. I'm so grateful and pleased to be experiencing this song with you in this space and time. Many blessings.
This song is for Lori. My sister. I love you. I miss you and this song reminds me of the good ol days. I hope i see you again in another life. I love you.❤
You're are always able to fall in love. It only took me 29 years after my first and only divorce to figure this out. Good luck and best wishes, don't give up:)
I don't know why anyone would want this song in their wedding. It's all about loving someone that doesn't do you the courtesy of loving you back. Maybe they go through the motions and say the right things, but you never get back what you put in, and you lose yourself in the process. Very codependent. Very depressing. Not romantic or loving in the least.
I think this is about a codependant who loves a narcissist, and narcissists are incapable of feeling any love or empathy for anyone, they only love themselves, and just use people by sucking the life out of them and then throwing them away, after making them think at first that they are everything, and all they want or will ever want. It is about someone forever seeking that initial "rush" of loving and trusting someone to the hilt, but that drug has been withdrawn from them on purpose and will never be given again - so cruel, evil in fact.
When does one ever get back what they put in? How is that even evaluated? Give because you want to, not because you expect reciprocation...really cuts down on the disappointment.
made this rewrite, heard it so many times i got bored. and had insomnia. (disclaimer;its just a youtube comment. nothing more.) hope you like it i tried to hold the hand inside you and hold a thing i hoped was true i breathed you in and i felt something i breathed you in, guess im a fool go live your life, but dont cast shadows you'll come apart and you'll go mad some kind of light might clear your darkness no kind of light can move tall stones It fades into you Strange ,and isnt cool It fades into you I think it's strange you never knew A stranger's light comes on slowly A stranger's heart without a home You put your hands over your halo i feel a light within my heart It fades into you Strange ,and it is true. It fades into you I think it's strange you never knew
There were so many good bands, and artists alike who went out there gave it all they got heart and soul and reside in our memories as heroes. It's depressing to turn on the radio these days. The formuliac r&b generics are trying to overwrite history as if it never happened. I pity the next generations because both you and I know what good music was. Cranberries, Live, Mazzy, RHCPs, Mr.Big, Blind Melon, Don Henley all those names endure in my heart. Their music had depth, and meaning. Not flash.
When my girlfriend was shot and killed, I played this song over and over. Star's voice provided a soothing companion to the mourning, shock, and listlessness which ebbed and flowed within.
Time is a funny thing.....sooo BITTERSWEET.....
.. Some kind of light into your darkness colors your eyes with what's not there
her voice melts the leaf litter of my soul.
Feels like I'm in L.A...luv this!!!
Drop the top, roll you up a fat one and hit the freeway. WHAT A FEELING!
Love it 💯
This song is for Lori. My sister. I love you. I miss you and this song reminds me of the good ol days. I hope i see you again in another life. I love you.❤
I love the skips in the recording. Brilliant tactic, really.
i remember this song when i used to be able to fall in love
You're are always able to fall in love. It only took me 29 years after my first and only divorce to figure this out. Good luck and best wishes, don't give up:)
Or better yet..., fall in love with everyone around you! Smiles and conversation are a path to all love :)
:)mmmmmmmmmm yes
@everything are GOOD See Koalas and Trees
So, what’s your phone number? Maybe we should talk 🙃
Keith Stewart Wow! You sound amazing, a proper grown up. You have a new fan xx
No it's about loving someone that has lost how to show the love back and caves into their own depression and commits suicide
Its amazing how a song can make you reminisce about memories you had at that time, that very moment.
Just watched Starship Troopers after so many years and noticed this song comes out. Hahaha Beautiful Song!
Indeed it is!:-)
its in the fight scene with jonyy rico and that dick head flight officer :) even in movies grunts behave the way they do in real life
how many liquor bottles has thus song consumed??
made this rewrite, heard it so many times i got bored. and had insomnia. (disclaimer;its just a youtube comment. nothing more.)
hope you like it
i tried to hold the hand inside you
and hold a thing i hoped was true
i breathed you in and i felt something
i breathed you in, guess im a fool
go live your life, but dont cast shadows
you'll come apart and you'll go mad
some kind of light might clear your darkness
no kind of light can move tall stones
It fades into you
Strange ,and isnt cool
It fades into you
I think it's strange you never knew
A stranger's light comes on slowly
A stranger's heart without a home
You put your hands over your halo
i feel a light within my heart
It fades into you
Strange ,and it is true.
It fades into you
I think it's strange you never knew
Love this!!🖤
@@Charrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr thanks :D
Just discovering this song, and I am floored! L O V E L Y!
Not flash.
